We use a cat sitter. There was a time when we had a trusted neighbor who also had cats, so we exchanged visits, no fees. At other times, we chose a cat sitter based on trusted recommendations. My favorite choice, and I am using it now, is to solicit a cat sitter through my trusted veterinarian's staff. There is probably a vet tech that loves his clients and could use the money. (My payment is helping to stoke the pet care industry). Another reason I like using a sitter associated with my veterinarian is that they have some species and medical knowledge and can arrange veterinary care in an emergency. In every case where a new sitter is involved, I set up a visit before my away time. The sitter and I get to evaluate each other and decide if we mutually want to continue. I pay for this visit. When I return from a trip, my cats show every sign that they missed me, but they didn't lack for care and some friendly contact.

I refuse to leave my cat alone overnight, but I have a trip I have to make coming up in the fall, so this really helps with deciding my options. My best friend is a vet tech, so even though I would rather leave my cat at home and have someone come in to take care of him, I'm hoping that bringing my cat to her will be a better decision. 🙏 I wish I didn't have to leave at all of course!

If you have two cats they can manage to be alone longer than a single cat. Still they need to be very known to each other. And they need to have someone to look inn at least 2 times a day, if you travel for more than a day. We all need to go somewhere sometimes, and you choose what is best for your cat. This is a problem about indoor cats, and the amount of indoor cats is increasing. People must think before getting a cat, or any pet. Cats are predators by nature, and they want to hunt. Being locked in to an apartment without any stimuli is not good.

I rarely leave home, so providing for my cat(s) has changed over time. Long ago, I used to hired the daughter of friends, early teen, to stop be and feed/water the cats once a day. The second time I returned a day early and found the food and money for service still sitting on the kitchen counter. (The cats could enter and leave the house on their own.) This was a week long trip. It appeared that the cats had done fine on their own for the week. After that, the cat (singular) went to the kennel run by his vet. They allowed the boarded cats to stay alone if preferred or mix and play in the alternative. One of their interns played and gave personal attention to each cat each day. At the end of the stay, the cat was groomed and bathed. Overall, better routine care than he probably got at home. Cat was glad to be home, but didn't seem opposed to these periodic overnighters.

The only time I had to take my cats somewhere to stay for a bit was when I’d gotten a new bed that came with some bug that bit me to death but thankfully, didn’t bother the cats, dogs or bird! They were gone for 10 hours while the floggers did their work. We all came home to a bug free environment!

Cat owners often make the mistake of taking the cat out of their environment to another house to be looked after. I know of so many times the cat has escaped the house as people are walking in and out and the cat has fled that way or thru a window. Other people do not take the care that you do. They escape to find their familiar territory and of course end up lost. Keep them in their own environment and have a cat sitter or neighbour attend is the safest way. They still have to watch them very carefully so they don't escape to look for you!

I sometimes take care of my daughters cat. I also have a cat. They know each other by regular visits. Still I cannot accept just an overnight, it is to stressful for my daughters cat. They need at least 5 days together. It has been working well. But the good bye is devastating. My cat is looking for his friend, and her cat is meowing when he gets home. It is almost heart breaking.

Lol I used to have my calico trained to go to the bathroom, get in her crate and then I would literally make her a well insulated bedroom because it could get rather drafty in the house. I know that silly cat slept more comfortably than me. Actually when I went to go get her she was sleeping in a litter box and they asked me do you are you sure you want this one and I'm like yes the only way I can have a cat is if it's a calico cuz I was living with my mom at the time. Mom still has her but yeah I had her trained up pretty well

This info doesn't apply to hybrid cats. When I was researching them before I got mine. One of the reoccurring warnings was if like to go on vacations without your cat, don't get a hybrid cat. That's why there's so many videos of owners with their Bengal cats in airports and on planes.

We had no choice but to leave our cat alone for three days. We had a lost in our family. I give her extra food bowl and water bowl. When we got back home she was fine and happy. You have to be careful when you take your cat a cat kennel because they can get kennel cough

Abitando vicino ai miei, quando parto lascio le chiavi e si occupano del mio gatto che comunque li conosce e penso che al di là di tutto sia la soluzione migliore.. altrimenti se non dovessero esserci lo lascio a casa di una persona che conosce i gatti e sa prendersene cura.. Ma comunque lasciare il proprio gatto è sempre un po' ansioso ma una buona organizzazione aiuta molto... Una scelta che non farei mai è quella di lasciarlo in un rifugio chiuso in una gabbia...per me sarebbe devastante!!!
