At 9:50 check out how Allen shakes off the blitz from the right after not knowing where his "hot" is in the protection. As Allen looks from left to right, he is immediately confronted by the safety in his face. It is impressive how he steps left to slip from the safety's hit, but is even more mind blowing that he moves the ball from his right (passing hand) to his left to avoid a strip by the safety. Damn. That guy is really dialed in.

Nobody thinks Allen isn't good. They just don't think he is elite - which has some merit to it. Are we just going to pretend there are 10 elite QBs in the NFL? Come on. There are 10-15 good QBs with 5 of those being elite. I don't think Allen is in that top 5. He is a dual threat, and he is hard to scheme against, but from a pure QB perspective? No. He isn't elite. Great arm, arguably the best arm, but his decision-making really hinders him at times. He makes the game more difficult than it needs to be at times. We saw it a bunch this year.

@faveology
@faveology 7 ай бұрын
I mean this has been the case his whole career right? As a defense coordinator, you try to force him to the right and make him throw across his body. If you go watch, some of the worst throws in his career are when he is flushed out to his right. You don't want him to go left, and you don't want him to have all day in the pocket. Let's be honest, though, most QBs have a side they prefer. That's what makes a QB like Mahomes such an anomaly. You can't flush him to either side because he can throw from either side.

Disagree entirely, most of Josh's awful throws and plays come from him trusting his arm a little bit too much and just throwing the damn thing up for grabs, or from trying to force a magic play to happen instead of taking a sack or something. He's always seemed very good rolling out or while mobile, a lot like Mahomes, except much more willing to run through people. He's got probably the biggest arm in football right now and is one of the few that can actually make cross body throws just about anywhere he has to.@@faveology
@chekurshi

also to add to this, I'm pretty sure the last thing any defensive coordinator wants to do is get Josh Allen mobile outside the tackles, he's been coached away from running the ball at his leisure, but he still is one of the biggest ground threat QBs of all time

@21:25 going for glory - but had a little hitch out of the bunch to shakir for the first. I'm wondering from a QB perspective like yourself, if that was a near impossible read? Josh would have to see the Safety help with the robot from underneath - come off that first read (Hi to Lo?) quick - eye the crosser quick and see the hitch open outside with the tricky zone blitz pressure (LB/NB). Maybe that's a Tom Brady read - or maybe no QB is going to be able to read that quick w/o a pre-snap read, which would be tough due to the tricky pressure...?

On the 1st snap, there's no separation. That was within a whisker of being broken up by the corner. But that was where the ball needed to go, for sure. KC will give that matchup all day long, because, for them, that's usually an incompletion. On the 2nd snap, that free runner had a great shot at deflecting the pass in the backfield. But hitting that corner route was a big-time throw, without doubt. But KC leads the league in batted passes by their D-Line, especially Chris Jones and the former water polo player, George Karlaftis. The 3rd snap, where it's there, but the execution isn't quite there, is pretty common for KC. Either Mahomes or the WR will be a bit off. But like Buffalo, that won't stop them from taking those shots when they're there. The 4th snap, where he scrambles out of trouble for a nice gain, KC's DBs break down and finish, better than that. That's a Tyrann Mathieu kind of whiff, which has a lot to do with why KC let Honey Badger go. All of their DBs are assassins when it comes to tackling (Point of emphasis with the proceeds of the Tyreek Hill pick), and if the big buffalo doesn't go down, right away, he's carrying a DB piggyback until help arrives. That doesn't mean Allen won't make ANY escapes in the Divisional, because that's what the giant of a man does...But that #20's failure to break down and wrap up reminds me of Joe Burrow's escape from Tyrann Mathieu. That one should've been a sack. You're not going to find me disrespecting Josh Allen, here. I'm a hard-core KC fan, who wished Allen had come out a year early, so KC could snatch him later in the 1st (or even later). Instead, Allen went to Buffalo. KC went after Mahomes, with a very aggressive trade-up that KC GMs before Veach never could seem to execute. I think that trade worked out well for KC, but Buffalo also landed a franchise QB in Josh Allen, who proved to be everything I hoped, when I saw him lighting it up as a Junior. Buffalo didn't exactly strike a hard bargain with Dorsey/Veach for Mahomes, but during the Reid era, KC hasn't exactly bargained hard, either. GOOD trades that benefit BOTH teams are what both franchises seem to make in the current era, and that creates good will with other ball clubs, so that future trades are possible. (For years, under GM Carl Peterson, KC built a reputation for sharp dealings that helped KC but didn't help the trade partner. Thus, for over 20 years, KC couldn't trade up the way they did for Mahomes. But maybe after the Tyreek Hill trade, which KC translated into a Super Bowl win, it'll be tougher for them to wheel and deal. That was on the order of the Herschel Walker trade that Jimmy Johnson engineered.) Buffalo has a lot of injuries to overcome. KC's a little better off in that regard. May both teams be as healthy as possible and stay healthy for this one and may the winner go on to win it all! Everyone notices the drops by KC receivers this season, but they don't need many of those drops to be catches to score over 30 on just about anybody. If such be possible, I think the reigning champs are actually flying a bit under the radar this go-round. I think they feasted on incomplete teams in the Wild Card matchup. Now they both face pretty complete teams, and it looks like a great, entertaining matchup. Everyone expects it to go down to the wire, but I think it could easily get out of hand either way, hinging on a handful of big plays.

@15m - little late on the comment, but had to say something here - Steelers had a lot of guys coming back from time off - not an excuse, just facts - they werent on same page - especially first half - Kazee coming off a suspension made a pool effort going for the ball instead of tackling as you pointed out. What's far worse to me was the horrible effort by the DBs being blocked downfield & the lack of pursuit. The whole D was expecting Kazee to make the tackle and not running to the ball. Look at the "vaunted" steel curtain standing around like a torn drape! Still credit to the steelers who fought to the end. Something for Tomlin to build on... but he needs to really solidify a vision/scheme for the O and continue to upgrade DTalent and find ways to keep guys on the field..

And then punted once in the 13 sec game.... The year before that they lost in the Championship game. I get it... People are sceptics but the only losses they had this year were against bad teams. Go and look at their schedule. Lost against the Eagles who lost 6 in their last 7, the Broncos, Jags, Jets, Patriots and Bengals. Allen is played differently than anyone else in the league! Lamar is also covered differently then Josh is other ways. I believe he needs a quick escape more often than he's given. I would like to see him given a bit more control to get to the LOS quicker and make adjustments based on what he see's! The play at 6 minutes was a great play by Allen, a great route by the receiver/tight end for running away from the coverage, and just terrible execution by the defense, right? There is no way that play is designed for the middle of the field safety to get over there to cover that guy. The DB on the left (right for the defense) clearly played it wrong, right? He jumps the RB on the route, which is great if Allen goes there. However, since he guessed wrong, he gives up such an easy TD throw. Couldn't you argue, in that scenario, the DB needs to always play the deep option and rally to tackle the RB/trust one of his rushers to bat the ball down/force Allen to put more air on the ball (which would give him more time to rally to the short throw to the RB). I just can't see that as anything more than a poorly executed play by that DB, potentially a bad designed play, which was punished appropriately by great offensive execution (both by the QB and receiver)

If u run between the tackles sliding shouldn’t even be legal. I’m sorry sliding on a zone read between the tackles u should get hit and there should be no flag. Especially when 2 players earlier they ran the exact same play and he didn’t slide and instead ran through contact. U can’t let a guy pick and chose between sliding and running guys over. If Josh is gonna run physical the refs need to make it clear to him we r gonna let u get hit. U 100% can not allow Josh to play physical while telling the defense they can’t be physical with him. It’s Bs when u r letting a guy fake slide, run through guys, and slide all in the same game and rewarding him on every single one of them. The second u start lowering your shoulders and running through guys as a ref I’m not calling any penalties on guys for hitting u. U don’t deserve them.

@@RedEyeItachi you clearly don't watch him. He gets hit plenty hard and quite often. He's easily the most physical QB in the league. If he didn't take hits why would there be such a narrative about how dangerous his style of play is? Be mad at the defender for tackling poorly and getting ran over. Or did you miss the part where he was still 1 on 1 with a safety and still got past him? A good form tackle isn't against the rules. You're mad at poor defense, not QBs being overprotected. Your clearly biased bills fan so i dont know y Im even wasting my breath. Josh knew what he was doing and so do u. U just don’t want to admit it. Also Ps if Josh doesn’t slide or get penalties called y did he do it in this game? Josh has gotten plenty of penalties called for roughing and unnecessary roughness. Maybe u should do some research cuz they track those stats now

@@RedEyeItachi you're all over the place dude. When did I say he doesn't slide sometimes? When did I say he doesn't get roughing penalties? I said he's the most physical QB and I don't really see how anyone who has actually watched him can disagree. Otherwise, you say he faked a slide. I disagree for several reasons. A) In the clip he stutters and hesitates. That is not typical of a sliding motion. In his film, even in clips from the same game, you will see that if he slides he generally does so with momentum, not after stopping or hesitating. B) His film will also show that he has done that hesitation movement consistently since he was drafted. Hesitations, jukes, and stutter steps like we see in that run have always been a large part of his running style. Hesitation does not equal sliding. WRs and RBs hesitate all the time without people moaning about it. C) He stays forward almost the entire time with his shoulders only *slightly* going back when he changes directions. Again, I don't see this being indicative of sliding. He never looks like he's going to give himself up. He simply hesitates and changes directions. D) This steelers team has talked about being physical against Allen in particular. They spoke about it leading up to this game and the last time they played the Bills. There was even slight controversy because some people thought it sounded like they were threatening to play dirty. Steelers have no excuse to play him soft after saying they'll treat him like a running back. If his film shows anything at all, it's that he will take every last yard he can get even if that means being reckless. He's had several heroic runs on film in just the lack 3 or 4 weeks. There's no reason for any team to assume he will slide in that position. The best part is that good form tackling has always been legal and a good tackle won't lead to a penalty even if the qb does slide because you wouldn't be launching or leading with the head. This simply wouldn't be a discussion if that safety intended to make a strong, clean tackle to begin with. Jordan Poyer does it every game with few penalties and very few missed tackles like that.

Josh is great but he reads the field poorly sometimes. Maybe im just a couch coach and ex madden player but it seemed like Shakir was the high percentage target on that Mesh route around 19:00. Knox even did a good job running his defender into the lane of Shakir's defender. If Shakir gets that target seems like an easy 15+ yards and possibly a lot more consider his YAC skills.

It's because his first read is always something downfield. He's a big play hunter which means he can be late reading the underneath routes.

@@adamant5550 yes and that's where the bulk of his turnovers come from. The bills offense would be much more efficient if they prioritize high percentage completions than the big play down field. You want players to help Josh but he doesn't accept the help by always looking to make a huge play. It worked out vs the Steelers but he needs to be methodical because when the big plays turn into turnovers or punts he's not helping his offense or his defense.

Easier to look great when we can't tackle, cover , or get pressure on him though. Typical Steelers playoff game not bothering to show up or care til we're already out of it

@@sirGarald ya we didn't deserve to make the playoffs at all. We were on our 3rd string QB and out the majority of the middle of our defense. Not saying we would have won the game , but it's a hell of a lot easier not facing a tj watt pass rush when we also have 0 pass rush beside it
