Hello fellow southerner from the USA 😁. I'm a decade older than you, and 3+ years after discovering Nightwish, I'm still having trouble containing my astonishment. As a good ol' fashioned southern girl, you're probably supposed to be listening to country music? But you are in for an incredible ride if you stay on this train. This music is on another level. And very few in the USA have ever experienced it. Maybe you can spread the word? And please remember that like all music, nothing happens until someone creates this magic. For Nightwish that would be Tuomas Holopainen (keyboard player). He writes 90+% of Nightwish's music. True living genius. And Floor? Well, she's Floor Jansen. 😃

Dont worry about comparing Any Lee and Evanessence to Floor and Nightwish. Its the closest thing to it that we have in the states sadly. And dont stress the pronounciation of the band members names. Finnish is hard. We love your reactions because it allows us to expirience them through your eyes which makes it new again. This was a gheat reaction and i loved it.
@NightwishArena Жыл бұрын
I agree. We Finns are not too picky about pronouncing in general, and most of us don't care how our names are said. Amy Lee is also incredible artist, and it embarrasses me when these fellow fans are so disrespectful. Especially comments like "can't hold a candle"...no shit, she wouldn't hold a candle. I'm sure they would hold that candle together. It hasn't been easy for either of them, and they are both lovely wonderful human beings.

I think the connection comes less from comparing the vocalists and their skills and more from the overall sound of metal mixed with a softer female voice, something that isn't heard much in American metal. Definitely not worth stressing about or hating on anyone for. I can see the connection, too and I don't listen to Evanescence and LOVE Nightwish.

They are both great in their own ways and have that prog rock symphonic metal sound with an outstanding female vocalist that rocks! You're not saying "Oh, they're EXACTLY alike". No, you're making a perfectly valid comparison. I agree with you. People HAVE to compare as if there HAS to be a "winner" here. No. Just relax and enjoy all the good things of life. Nightwish and Evanescence are 2 of them. To all those people that feel like you have the right to get ugly with such an enjoyable genuinely authentic reactor who is a beautiful lady, keep living. Nightwish is a band that really stirs up the emotions, and that comes from the passionate band members who are in it for the pure joy of the music. There are no egos in this band, they are all a family and you can tell how much fun they have from the smiles (and things like the guitarist Emppu touching everyone during the performances and his joyful clowning around). They share that energy and love back and forth with their audiences and you can see that special connection between them and the fans. And of course that incredible music is the brain child of their songwriting genius Tuomas, who pens most of those poetic lyrics and passionate music. I encourage you to continue to explore Nightwish, it is quite a rewarding journey because every song holds something special and unexpected (some are real head bangers, some are so beautiful they will literally bring tears, some make you want to dance a jig) . A few of my suggestions would include these from some different concerts on KZbin: 1) from the Wacken concert: Romanticide, Ever Dream, Amaranth, and The Last Ride Of The Day; 2) from Live at Wembley: My Walden, 7 Days To The Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope, Nemo, and While Your Lips Are Still Red; 3) from live at Tampere: Sleeping Sun and The Islander; 4) from Live at Buenos Aires 2018: I Want My Tears Back, Elan, and Dead Boy's Poem. There are of course many, many more but those are some of my own favorites. Although Nightwish was formerly fronted by two very talented ladies, I personally much prefer Floor and the band's performances after she joined in late 2012.

I just love a honest and sincere reaction like you just did Debbie. There's no need for you to apologize for anything, you're new to this kind of music, as we all have been at some time. I'm a 53 yr. old from The Netherlands and I had similar feelings the first time i heard Freddie Mercury from the British rock band Queen. I thought that this would be a once in a life time experience, but Floor and Nightwish proved me wrong, and in a way these two bands and their lead singers have the same effect on one. Both are very refreshing and renewing for their time. If only possible, i would love Freddie and Floor to duett, it surely would've been heaven on Earth. I use this song "Storytime", to get me in the mood for going out or going to a party ever since i've heard it for the first time, as the chorus is so catchy and uplifting, it really gets you in the right frame of mind.

I’m 65 and was a heavy metal/hard rock follower for 50 years but a few months ago that all changed. Realize that floor had JUST started with Nightwish and you caught that look Empuu the guitarist gave to Floor when he realized this is the best singer Nightwish ever had and the best choice they could have made. Floor had only 48 hours to learn the setlist and Seattle Washington was their first gig with her earlier that year. You will find that every consecutive song you hear will become your new favorite. Keep on the Wacken 2013 performances and you won’t be disappoint. BTW you look fantastic and don’t be ashamed to let the tears of joy flow. Looking forward to your next video, tomorrow! (Everdream was Floor’s biggest challenge, and no one comes close to what she can do in that song and you’ll see why). There were 85000 spectators, arms up in unison, that would agree they witnessed exquisite perfection that was mesmerizingly beautiful that night.

Perfect reaction from you 👍 This song is about never forgetting to use your imagination - and that's precisely what happend to you. Floor grabbed you and made you feel the story in your head / imagination - you became a part of the story, so to speak. You experienced the journey. And that's exactly what it's all about - you experience every story they tell you 👍. And yes - it's not easy or even possible to switch between opera techniques, belting, head voice etc etc - in the same sentence. But Floor doesn't care - she just do it to to give you the ultimate experience of each song. Her vocal range, her breath and voice techniques are beyond anything you have ever seen before - and she even developes her own techniques, to get the perfect emotion in the voice. All Nightwish songs are emotions - even the tribute songs like Shoemaker, will blow your mind in emotion. And you are the perfect Nightwish Army trooper - you feel and experience the stories, and can't hide it - perfect 👍 And don't worry about your heart condition - Nightwish have the perfect song for that 'How is the Heart ♥' - but we will get there later on.. 😉 (just kidding - that song is about caring, and asking how are you really feeling inside). Nightwish Army from Rural Oregon. Medical Tent. Technology Explainer. Hack Musician. If NIghtwish does not alter your life, your ability to enjoy, if they don't broaden you vistas... Nightwish is like hanging with Alice and taking the little black pill labeled "Metal". Each song draws me 'down the rabbithole', again and again. There really is magic in this music. Written as a story, written as a warning, written as a carrot, written as a lesson shrouded in metal sung by sirens and animals in the dark. The musicianship is immaculate. The sound production (this is LIVE) is astounding. And the crowd... that Nightwish Army on the field.... Faces full of joy and energy and hope and desire. And if you fell in that crowd, there'd be a hundred, a thousand hands lifting you back up. This is not an angry crowd. There's no "we're better than you" attitudes out there. Yes glad you continued the journey. The keyboardist Tuomas is a flipping musical genius and has built his music in such deep layers that you’re finally picking up. And that’s the symphonic elements to the songs. The layers are strings horns wind instruments etc and yes choir. Hopefully now the 2nd song into the journey you should replay them to find more and more of the layers. To really appreciate how complex Tuomas’s music is. No bands in North America will ever compare. And is very sad to know Nightwish won’t be air played in our pathetic music bubble. If they did, kiss all that R&B, Rap Contry and yes the Pop. Yes Nightwish is categorized as Symphonic Metal but also does have a catalog of less of pure metal songs. This particular genre is called Symphonic Metal/Rock and is far more accessible to listen to than 'Heavy Metal'. Gabriel's list is an excellent guide, and I am sure you will enjoy your fall 'down the rabbit hole' of NW material. Each song is different, and you will find yourself emotionally-invested as you delve deeper. You will also find recommendations to listen to bands such as Epica, Ayreon and Within Temptation. I was 65 when I made that discovery and on May 18, 2022, Carol, my wife of 41 years, and I got to travel from Phoenix to see them perform live at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. It was a wonderful, mind-blowing experience I will always treasure. We Americans have been so robbed of years of this musical journey by our lame radio stations that we are flabbergasted when we get to experience it for the first time. Keep following Gabriel's List and prepare for more of the same emotions. There is nothing on the planet like Nightwish in front of a live audience. Floor becomes the music and the crowd. Thank you for this marvelous reaction.

Several years ago, Floor appeared on a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers(best singers). The format is , a group of well known European singers, sit around in a cozy setting and sing for each other. For an idea of just how good Floor is you should check out her performance of Mama, Vilja Lied a cover of Lady Gaga's Shallow, and the astounding duet with a well known former Phanton, in Phantom of The Opera. Floor hits a note, and holds it for 8 seconds, which brings the house down. The videos are on you tube. Your enthusiasm and reaction is fun and enjoyable. Welcome to Nightwish.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. Mine began 12 months ago. Somehow I'd not heard of Nightwish or Floor until then, and since my musical world has been turned upside down and inside out. The best band I have ever seen and heard, all masters of their craft fronted by a woman who for me is beyond description, incomparable 🙏😊👍❤️

I can totally relate. About 2 years ago I discovered Nightwish with Ghost Love Score. By the end of it I was heavily sweating and had goosebumps (Floorgasms) galore. I am so enjoying your wonderstruck reactions. There are many more of those in your future.

Oh my god I absolutely adore you. It's wonderful to see Nightwish crack open your soul. This is going to be a beautiful journey watching you experience this incredible band and many others. We are the same age but I've been blessed with a musical family and have played drums since I was 4. I saw Nightwish live in 2017 and Floor brought tears to my eyes. This is truly one of the greatest bands in the world and I look forward to seeing you get blown away.

My personal favorite is Shoemaker live at hellfest 2022. The singing, the images, they are of stunning quality. If you find the entire concert. Shoemaker starts around 50 minutes in, I think. Watch till the end of the song, as usual Tuomas and Floor give their best at the end.

NW will make you cry and thump holes in the ceiling...there's no other band like this. They encapsulate everything good from +40 years of pop /rock / classical music with a generational talent in Floor Jansen and quite simply a genius composer in Tuomas Holopainen. That's not to ignore the other stellar talents in the various lineups. There are no weak songs every single one is a crafted mini masterpiece. Happy to be along for the ride. Deep breaths

Greetings from Switzerland. I'm 51, and a Nightwish fan for more than 20 years. Despite the fact, that I love various styles of music, this band keeps staying in my personal top 10. And this is because I feel the passion and love they give to every song they ever created. Observing your reaction you've had to these two song you've already heard, I'm quite convinced, you will never be disappointed from what you're still going to hear by going down this rabbit hole ;-) Take Gabriel's list, pick them randomly, they're all worth it.

Same reaction when I first discovered Nightwish back in 2018. Nightwish and Floor solo works, also Tuomas and his side project with Auri, and Marko's many musical adventures since, has been the greatest musical gift received. I guess that's why we are a Nightwish Army, we recognize this band as the best on earth. Watching you react to Nightwish is so enjoyable and heart warming in every way. Thanks for sharing with us all. Cheers from Canada.

That moment when you realise Floor is an operatic soprano 😁 She is The One. Floor studied opera for a year or so but found it too restrictive for her, because she’s a metalhead at heart.

Nightwish Army Minnesota checking in. I'm also 52. American radio just never offered us music like this, and how do you search for something you might like if you don't know it exists? Sirius XM doesn't even have a channel for it. KZbin and the other streaming services helps now, but these are not resources we had growing up. I recommend watching this entire concert as an introduction to the many sides of Night wish. They can go harder and they can go softer. Ever Dream from this show is particularly wonderful. Also, the latest album, Human Nature has moments that will be a party, and other moments that will make you weep with beauty. Enjoy the ride. Stay strong my sister.

They do a wide variety of songs, including some more ballad like songs. Floor is classically trained as is Pat Benatar, Amy Lee, Simone Simons of Epica and many other female front singers in the rock/ metal genre. Floor does some amazing performances with other artists that are a fun watch/listen. Love your reactions, new subscriber from Oregon.

UK Oldies Division of Nightwish army here. Thanks for the great reaction. I think yours is one of the best reactions I have seen. Hope you keep following Nightwish. Every song is different. So many different styles. I am 71 and have been to many concerts over the years, but without doubt the best and most unforgettable one I have ever been to was Nightwish at Wembley in 2022. Made even better by the support band Beast In Black. Just follow Gabriel's list. You won't go wrong. Marco, the bass player is also an excellent vocalist. You'll hear him on a few performances if you keep watching. There's also another member of the band who doesn't appear on so many of the earlier songs, the English multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley. You will meet him later. He also does a few vocals.

Oh, almighty Nightwish, glad you enjoyed. Don't worry about Evanescence thing. Thanks for using the headphones. The sound was so much better. Every Nightwish song is storyline driven and this song has interesting background info. From wiki: Composer and lyricist of the song, Tuomas Holopainen has said that "Storytime" is inspired by the 1982 movie The Snowman, the theme of which was previously covered by Nightwish for their Oceanborn album. The idea for the music of "Storytime" was born when Holopainen wondered why no-one had made a remake of the film, and pondered on what his version of the score to the scene in which "Walking in the Air" plays would sound like. In a teaser text released prior to the release, Holopainen summarized the song: "How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity." The lyrics references several classical pieces of fiction concerning imagination, including the character of Peter Pan and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The lyrics also mention the mythical Gaia, the Greek primordial Earth goddess.

Hi ValtteL! I really like the bits of information about NW you put in the comments especially from the time before Floor. I discoverd NW in 2019 through the Dutch TV series "De Reunie" (The Reunion). Strange fact is I don't remember the first song I heard of them because I was so obsessed I wanted to hear all their music and all of the info at the same time🤣I remember it was really chaos in my head , no wonder with discovering so much mesmerizing music haha. And to know more...The book "Once upon a Nightwish" is on my list of birthday presents so fingers crossed.....

@@moniquevanaken2638 Thank you Monique 😄 I can imagine that it was a big party inside your head when the flood of sound and information came in 😆 I've been following them since the beginning, so it's been more from album to album and analyzing new stuff. Oceanborn and Wishmaster were so much that Yngwie Malmsteen/Stratovarius/Helloween style which was really popular in Finland in the 90s. Kinda technical and positive approach and vibe overall. So it was really a shock when Century Child came and it was almost unreal feeling when I listened to it - "is this the same band?", "heck these guitars are so heavy and front of the mix", "everything is so dark and cinematic". Much slower than before so that heaviness and darkness really resonated. I really loved how they changed and explored new musical territories. After Century Child I knew they can do absolutely anything. I'll never forget that first Century Child "reaction".

@@ValtteL Oohh it was really chaos!🤣For days (and nights) I watched everything I could find on YT. And all the info I could find. And that it the beauty of the iinternet, you can find things now no time. But not everything and that is why I like your info bits! My first great love of music were The Moody Blues back in the 1960's and 70's and it was hard to find a lot of info about them but as you experienced with NW it was also from album to album. But after The MB there wasn't a band or an artist I really liked and then I fell with an enormous Bang into NW's rabbit hole and I never going to climb out of it!🥰

The Nightwish Army is a cross section of society. It consists of people of all ages and the Army has followers, laid backs, diehards, fanatics, extremists but we won’t do no harm, promise. For some of us Nightwish isn’t a band, it’s a way of life and for some it’s a religion. And as in every society/religion some can be very… narrow minded. But that’s on them, the majority is the opposite and we welcome every one who enjoys good music, good singers (yes, plural… Tarja, Anette, Floor, Marko and Troy) and good musicians. So welcome and enjoy the ride, it’s a roller coaster of feelings, emotions, laughs, tears, you name it… Nightwish delivers…

Great reaction! First if all don’t apologize for being southern. I grew up in Texas and the most beautiful people I’ve ever known were southern ladies to the core. Secondly, welcome to the world of Nightwish and the kingdom of Floor Janson who is the reigning Queen of Metal. Dive down the rabbit hole and you will find her singing rock, pop, folk, opera and metal. You will hear her in English, Dutch, German, Spanish and Latin. Follow Gabriel’s list and you will not be disappointed.

Nightwish Army UK here. I first saw them live with their first singer Tarja in 2000 and then live with Anette then again at this Famous Wacken concert. I was hooked first time and hooked even more with Floor. I was scepticle at first as id never heard Floor, but now in my opinion she is the best vocalist Nightwish have ever had. I still get goosebumps, my heart races everytime i listen to her and the band behind her. There is nobody with Floors range. Every song they sing is total perfection. I love your reactions keep them coming.

I know it's way too early for you to say but you are witnessing the female G.O.A.T. there is NOTHING that she can't do. Head voice, chest voice, growling, belting, operatic style, rock, pop, Disney music, death metal...you name it 😅 She even did the phone catalogue in a talk show sound amazing (go check it out, it's hilarious). And all those vocal technics in 7 different languages with perfect accent. As for the band...they are all one of a kind. Tuomas Holopainen the keyboardist is composing most of the dongs and he is known as the 'metal Mozart'. Soon you will know many interesting things about them. Just keep going with Gabriel's list. It's the perfect guide for this journey. Deep down inside... I'm do jealous. There is nothing compared to the first Floorgasms ❤️
