This is a 1.1 Litre engine, with what? 100-120 HP on a 800 kilos (plus driver) car? And crossply street-legal tyres. And you don't need more than that to have a lot of fun. This video, for me, was better than the previous 5-10 years of Formula One entire races. Kudos to the Lotus owner, this onboard ROCKS, the car rocks, the engine "music", the gear shifting, man, this is the stuff dreams are made of. Thanks Racer, thanks car owner/driver.

For the younger racing enthusiasts out there that may not be aware of this: A challenging aspect the driver has is with the "H" shift pattern, as the sequential manual shifter was still decades away. Many a race were lost because of a "missed-shift", resulting with blown engines, back in the days of the transmission "H" shift pattern.

If you are a car guy you will always pick H over auto or sequential

The tires you see on this car are the one we are required to run on the Formula Juniors. They are hand-built (expensive), Dunlop L204 hard compound vintage racing tires. They are not street legal but, even when they are brand new, the level of grip is nothing to write home about. You can replace a years-old set with a four new ones and the different isn't much. To go fast, you need to slide the car. Danny is an excellent driver and never puts a foot (or wheel) wrong. Minimum weight for Formula Junior is 400 kilograms (a bit less than 900 pounds). The best engines (typically built by Geoff Richardson in England) these days are putting out somewhere around 130hp. This video is beyond impressive, to say the very least.

This is a marvelous video! This camera setup gives the viewers a much better feel with the driving of the car, than what would be normally seen with cameras mounted on the car itself. The driving of the Lotus is impressive, with the car putting a premium on the driver's skills; where the performance of the car is in the hands of the driver, and not contingent on the setup of the aero package and ground effects.
