I enjoyed your thoughtful guest. 💯 I hope more medical professionals continue speaking out about the insidious takeover of medicine by authoritarian progressive ideology. I'm honestly a bit surprised more doctors haven't been speaking out earlier and in gteater numbers. Of course, there have been a number of other doctors placing their careers at risk for wrong speak, but society needs for them to speak out against what seems ike a marxist cultural revolution. Anyway. I always look forward to your podcasts! 👍🏼

I know all about entitlement culture as a landlord. Think people are bad with hotel rooms? I can tell you horror stories about people feeling entitled to living someplace permanently without paying rent, then tearing up the place. I currently own 1 duplex in Ohio, and last year I paid about $17,000 in repairs between the two units. One tenant paid rent exactly 1 time in 16 months without being forced to by a court, and was eventually evicted while owing me $6000 in rent and legal expenses I'll never collect ( in addition to part of the above danages).
@pippythefish55069 ай бұрын
That is horrible. So basically it cost you $25,000 to fix this mess. Are you going to rent your place out again after this?
@MashaB-pk8hl9 ай бұрын
@@pippythefish5506It’s behavior like that that makes you not want to rent. A bad tenant can have a good FICO score but still sign a lease with no intent to pay. Some states make it very difficult to evict a tenant no matter how they behave. A friend rented a house to people who turned the house into a “grow house” (that is, for growing marijuana under artificial light). This resulted in a mold problem that cost hundreds of thousands to remediate.
@matthewbrown86799 ай бұрын
@@pippythefish5506 yes, one side is re-rented now. This tenant has what has become a very odd approach to tenancy; she actually pays her rent on time, every month. The other unit is repaired and back on the market now. I can only hope that I will be so fortunate as to have another one of these strange, rare "good tenant" creatures inhabit the currently open unit.

Dr Ross might really enjoy the Judaism and teaching of Rabbi Finely of Ohr Ha Torah. He has had a massive awakening to the DEI issues in the community. He is also a Marine. When he was alive Leonard Cohen used to frequent his synagogue and teachings.

My feeling is that an inherent laziness is at the root of socialism and 'progressivism' that is masked by what appears to be 'passivity'. The world has two populations, the doers and the wishers. I don't need to describe the doers as it should be intuitive and obvious, they being those who start enterprises and who tend to be active in their communities in an unelected way. The wishers have what Rotter would have stated is an external 'locus of control' where events happen to them, and where they need champions for their causes and fears, both real and imagined. Their champion is going to be elected, and they put their faith and trust in those people. They assign to them power and authority, but also decision-making and much of their thinking...the heavy lifting kind of thinking about what they yearn for and what might go wrong.
@MashaB-pk8hl9 ай бұрын
The Left appears to believe that both sides are agentless. They see Whites as automatically racist, and are pessimistic about a White changing themselves. They believe Whites can’t avoid falling back on or passively benefiting from White privilege. This pessimism may be the reason the Left refuses to debate their ideas.

By all means, try to resort to reason thusly, and see how well that works out in your relationships with the African American community. I'm sure you wont have anyone at all go ballistic because they think you are using the comparison to denegrate the African American community.

I definitely still consider myself to be liberal, but working as a social worker in a major city for over fifteen years has changed my views considerably on government dependency and personal responsibility. I also completely agree with the Dr. on his views on the health disparities plaguing the US. I think the US medical establishment and government can help reduce the disparities, but individuals and certain minority communities need to change unhealthy behaviors and prioritize responsibility and self independence. By the way Leslie, you are starting off 2024 with so many good podcasts. 👍🏼
Differential outcomes based on race is not "evidence of" systemic racism. It IS systemic racism. That's what the term means. The system processes people, $$$, work and position and the outcome is different by race. The solution, I would agree, is not endless AA action programs or any kind of differential racial preferences. The solution lies at the K-12 level. Why are our schools depended on property taxes, which are different in every jurisdiction? Why can't we guarantee equal funding and resources throughout the entire national educational system? We can't because the same Right wing that whines about "unfair" AA and "racist anti-racism" are the people who militantly oppose ANY such national standard.
@patrickbarnes98749 ай бұрын
If language doesn't accurately describe reality, then language is wrong. If the reason the differential outcomes occur isn't related to the melanin levels of the people involved, then it isn't racism. This is basic logic. Call it "systemic racism" all you want, but what you're doing is being pedantic and equivocating. This is like how they quietly changed the definition of the word "vaccine" so they could claim the gene therapies for Covid were vaccines. According to the dictionary they were correct, but according to the way everyone used the word for the past hundred years, it wasn't a vaccine. They purposely did this so they could act as if the injections were vaccines. That's what you're doing when you make up the term systemic racism and use it in cases where you know that no racism has occurred and you know that people hearing the term are going to make an assumption that real prejudice was involved because racism has always been defined as involving bigotry. It's intellectual dishonesty.

Dr Ross, I believe your perspectives on minority peoples experiences from the medical establishment are not fully evolved. Black people generally expect poor medical experiences. Black woman have a high rate negative experiences including pregnancy care. There are books written about this subject. IMO, you have taken your own personal experiences and a bias from who you are and your behavior and attitude then applied it with a broad brush. Well, that may be good for you and your patients, Kudos, it is not typical for the majority in the medical system.
