I'll never forget being totally confused and intellectually lost because unlike my math, physics, and engineering courses, NOTHING was proved from first principles. Squishy, vague all-encompassing statements were made and accepted as fact and we were given endless exercises asking us to show how situations could be handled. I never had the faintest idea what any of it was about, or why some things were supposedly toxic and others good. At the conclusion I remember thinking "the College of Education at ASU is totally fake. You could grab anyone off the street, give them 20 minutes to come up with a course in managing social interactions, and the quality and validity would be the same or better. 38:38 PB's discussion of the word "education" was delivered with typical flair by Maggie Smith in the 1969 filmed version of Muriel Spark's _The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie_: “The word 'education' comes from the root e from ex, out, and duco, I lead. It means a leading out. To me education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupil's soul. To Miss Mackay it is a putting in of something that is not there, and that is not what I call education, I call it intrusion, from the Latin root prefix in meaning in and the stem trudo, I thrust.”

The problem with "identity" and how it is used in relation to biology and pronouns, is that most of these things are personality traits. If viewed through that lense, which it should, everything would fall into place. One of them wrote a beautifully worded essay about why she's choosing to stay celibate, and she didn't disparage the teens who don't, she just described why this is her choice, and how it will also work to protect her from STDs. My friend wrote what she knew the teacher believed, NOT what she believed, and she titled her essay "Sexually Transmitted Disease: Anyone Can Get It". She got an A, and the other girl got a C-. But my friend regretted not standing up for what she believed ; and she kept her paper -- and asked the other girl if she could have a copy of hers -- to remind herself never again to submit to Woke ideology just for a grade. So I've read both papers, and the other girl's paper really is better, not only in terms of grammar, but in style and skill. So the teacher obviously gave her a bad grade because the teacher only wanted kids to parrot what SHE thought.

@@zxyatiywariii8 I regret not standing up for myself as well.. Teachers should teach kids theories that are backed scientifically. Social studies have destroyed academia. The qualitative way of conducting science is really toxic and just is a misrepresentation of reality. I actually do not regret getting an academic degree (MSc). It helped me lifting up my career significantly. In the Netherlands we experience the same issues as in the other countries in the so called west. We are dragging behind and other parts of the world are catching up because of this woke crap. I really am bothered with this. I have plans to become a dad, but how this is going to end up is no safe space for one's kids. A real safe pace that is based on scientific reality, not the safe space these damn hippies talk about.

This channel is going to grow so quickly. Wait for it. 100k by Christmas, no problem. Brilliant work. Being able to make guests this comfortable, fully charged and ready to deliver their A-game is one of those secret skills viewers don't see or even know about as it's all behind the scenes prep stuff. Well I've put two and two together and am fully aware that you have exceptional natural talents and are an excellent filmmaker and interviewer: that's why you bring so much of value out of your guests/subjects. You make it look easy to get such great material out of people. I know it isn't. All your guests seem energised and excited to be talking to you and that shows that they have respect and a comfortable, confident frame of mind thanks to how they respond to your own intelligence and character. Thumbs up to you. Excited to watch this channel grow.

I love the kudzu comparison. In the US that plague is self-inflicted. It was first introduced to the US by the Soil Erosion Service and Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s for the purpose of controlling soil erosion in the American Southeast. That erosion problem didn't come from dumb farmers... those farmers were following practices put forth by the then-experts and government reinforcement of those ideas which led to the 'dust bowl'. Getting government to fix a problem created by government... what could go wrong? With the woke I see a weakness of Liberalism. Liberalism holds dear the idea of diversity of thought. In pursuit of that diversity it tolerates illiberal ideas. Those with illiberal ideas act in illiberal ways but the Liberal doesn't call it out or push back for fear of breaking with diversity of thought. And in doing so Liberalism points the shotgun at its own throat and pulls the trigger. All the years that this stuff rolled around in the University and where was the push back? Why does it always take a disaster to get people motivated?

Thank you for having this interview and making it available. Too many noble causes have historically been hijacked by ideological opportunists who wind up distorting a virtuous objective into a force for the suppression of objective thinking. I'm 71 years old and very grateful to still be learning. I sometimes ask myself how we have gone from the very basic premise of "class struggles" between the oligarchy and the proletariat with a utopian objective to integrate the marginalized into a more egalitarian society to what we are witnessing today of group identity politics, that seeks to segregate and to implement a doctrine of division between equals to sustain another type of society, that in the end is more tyrannical than the one it seeks to replace.

One more piece of the puzzle which started even before Wokeness (which I've heard from a long time Dean) is that professors always looked to promote people like themselves, not students who would oppose and challenge them. So untenured profs under the threat of "publish or perish," have learned to compliment their grooming "mentors" (often, even in dissertations)! In other words, a system that started quietly has proliferated and mushroomed into what today is Wokeversities... not unlike the priesthood in the Catholic Church. As a philosopher, however, it be great to hear Boghossian take on Peikoff's "The Cause of Hitler's Germany.," if only because the Aryan-Semitic Race Theory (ASRT) and Critical Race Theory (CRT) both come from bored, name seeking German schools and Peikoff unpacks the moral disorientation of Weimar Germany which is reminiscent of today's moral disorientation. It'd be also great to hear Beghossian's opinion about personal conduct with Tunisian boys.

The curriculum in med schools, studies in medical journals, best practice requirements have all crept into clinical practice and are reinforced by the insurance industry by withholding revenue for anyone outside the system. People also need to understand that this system didnt just pop up recently and was being built for decades. It also had its hands in high schools in the 90s. We were being taught some of this woke ideology in its infancy in 1998 when I was in 11th grade in Kentucky of all places. I started college in 2001 and on my first day they were taking down a statue of a filmmaker on campus they deemed "racist". Dear Peter, I first came across the concept of Wokeism a couple of weeks ago via some KZbin videos about Politicians in Australia. This video, my latest instalment towards enlightenment I must say is heavy stuff. Then again, so is the topic which is perhaps one of the most potentially divisive mechanisms to face our modern society. It’s one thing to have to deal with institutional stupidity, but Wokeism is a whole other level of crazy. We obviously are too comfortable as a people with the food, comfort and time on our hands to invent these bizarre things. Maybe a true apocalypse would fix this but I wouldn’t wish that on any society. I hope it is just a phase that one day fades into the distance with no long term consequences. Cheers.
