Storybook the video game? These games actually have surprisingly deep mechanics that most people who look at it from surface level dont see. Look at electronic undergrounds youtube for further explanation. He shows why games like rpgs ruined the industry by adding so much fat to gameplay to the point where it's just a interactive storybook.

Sunset riders in 91 and Metal Slug in 96 made a huge difference in the genre. Super polished games with solid bosses and pace. Both can be satisfying even today

Desert Assault!!!, i have been looking for that game for ages!, saw it only once in an arcade in the 90s i have never been to before, and never returned, more than a decade later i looked for it on the net, but didn't see the game title on the cabinet (most likely a bootleg), so the only reference i had is what i saw and the mission accomplished voice at the end of a level, i didn't even get to play the game since i was just passing by at that time and the machine was in use. When i saw your video title i thought, hey maybe the game is here...Thanks!

@Sandman Slim I added it (or Cybernator....same thing) to my hacked SNES Classic 2 years ago and i couldn't get into it....i just prefer the style (both the music and the Macross/Robotech inspired sprites) and gameplay (i use control mode B....default mode A is really clunky) and equipment customization of Target Earth. Plus the sprite was so huge, it just felt confining on screen. To each their own, but i think Target Earth is better by far.

My all-time favorites: Contra III, Contra Hard Corps, Shattered Soldier and Gunstar Heroes. Shoutout to Alien Soldier and the Metal Slug franchise, of course. Wish we'd get ports of Gunforce II and Hard Corps Uprising on modern platforms!

Gunforce II is being released this year on Irem Collection Volume 2, along with Air Duel and the original Gunforce (both Arcade and SNES versions). Hard Corps Uprising I would totally love to see it on modern consoles like the Switch, PS4/PS5, and PC. Xbox you can still get it via backwards compatibility.

Felicitaciones por tu contenido y ya de paso por el año nuevo, me he fijado que hay un error en 43:30 , la version de "The adventures of batman & Robin" que aparece es la de Mega Drive, que fue programada por Clockwork Tortoise y distribuida por SEGA, la version de SNES si la hizo Konami pero era un Beat'em Up, no un Run & Run. Quizá se pudieran haber incluido algún Shinobi o los Ghost & Goblins, aunque estos son mas plataformeros, o el Alisia Dragon de Mega Drive, Aun así magnifica selección como siempre.

I'm trying to find this game I saw a long time ago in some hotel's arcade. It's a run and gun game like Metal Slug and your character's sprite and the sprites of many enemies were 2D but bosses and many things in the background looked 3D and it all came together looking rather good. I can't seem to find it, I don't even know what it's called. I know it had some kind of gunship or airship boss and the villain inside it had the classic "Ohohohoho!" kind of narcissistic anime girl laugh. I FINALLY found it, it's Dolphin Blue! I probably NEVER would have found it's name if I hadn't found this video, thanks!

A lot of these arcade games are fantastic. But the controls spoil them at home, when you consider games like Ikari warriors, midnight resistance used those multi directional swivel sticks genius design. Cant believe no company hasn't produced a home version. Great video by the way:)

Atomic Runner and Midnight Resistance were my favorite games in childhood. While contra series is kore popular, I had the most fun playing them. Midnight resistance in particular was very cool with their idea of purchasing cool guns and gadgets through keys at the end of the level.
