Agreed… To clarify my original post: I wasn’t at all saying or implying at all that these ones shouldn’t be seeking wisdom, especially if they have no family, friends, or trusted sources that they can go to… What I am saying is that I am often in disbelief at just how MANY people it seems do indeed call in, and not merely for wisdom and counsel…that they would then take that advice and consider together, prayer together, add it to other advice, counsel, scripture, etc….BUT these ones call in and expect papa Dave to pass a judgment that allows them to settle an argument or disagreement with each other. I think that this is the crazy part to me and is much more of my point with my original comment -> and not so much that one should not seeking out good advice and wise counsel; That is definitely a good thing and one of the many reasons I do listen to this program. Not sure it matters. Just thought to add some clarification.

One of the best moves you can do is rent a place for the first year ur married. There are so many hidden costs in setting up a life together - appliances, furniture ... as much as I didn’t believe in renting, it was a blesssing to live cheaply in a small rental. It allows a little bit of freedom for experiences or trips or eating out - for that first year together.

I was wondering if anyone else was thinking this. That's about what my husband and I make. Because we live in a very low cost of living area, we would probably be able to consider building, but I don't think it would be a great idea. And very few other places would be as low of cost of living to allow that.

My question is - what kind of account is this emergency fund in?? A joint account? In the UK were they to split up, then half of it is hers, no matter who put the most in. The voice here, of bitter experience, with some funds intended for my kids that my ex walked away with. I'm female btw - this kind of thing can happen to either gender. If you are sure of your relationship, both of you, make a will and give each other a copy - until you can afford to get married. If she/ he won't do this- run in the opposite direction!

Caller acts clueless about why the house is in his name only and why his fiancee isn't interested in prepaying the mortgage. Personally I think that if he really wanted total commitment he should have waited to build a house until after they were married and then have both names on deed and mortgage. By acquiring the house in his name only prior to marriage, he gets to maintain a power over her for the entirety of their marriage unless there's something that gets changed. And he's going to expect her to invest in a house from day one that she has no ownership of.

Why not just get a car emergency fund/sinking fund for her security? And then the EF isn’t being touched …

No idea, but in most states common law doesn't kick in until you're living together as though husband and wife for 7-10 years. I think they're too young to have that going for them here.

As a woman even I can’t 💯 support her wishes. I can’t shake ye feeling she’s up to something shady. Why the house is in his name only I don’t know. Maybe deep down he believes he can’t trust her. I don’t know but something doesn’t feel right with this situation.

They probably don’t trust each other. Lol. Only his name on the house and she wants to pile up more savings for an “emergency”. It’s possible they each have their own motives which begs the question, why get married?
