Single dad here that has had court battle after court battle for kids. This spring I finished off my last credit card and paid a lump 2200 for a final payment. It too me 7 years to pay off over 22,000 because I paid close to 30,000 in legal fees (in addition to the 22k) to fight for the kids. I still owe family and my original FPU teacher says I'm not actually debt free to do the scream. Although I agree with him and am paying family back, I've paid back over 8,000 to them and have a little over 1,000 left of family debt. Not sure this counts and quite frankly after hearing the screening process it sounds like he wouldn't even care to let me do a scream. I'll just post it here and call it good. I'M DEBT FREE! I'M SOOO EXCITED, IM DEBT FREE! I drive a pos car but it runs just fine and paid for! Saving for a new one. I'm just so thankful for FPU, I know I wouldn't have had the money to not only pay off all debt but I did it while having and paying cash for court battle after court battle. The amount I owe is for before FPU. The REALLY expensive battles I paid cash for. I had the cash because I was actually saving to pay family for before FPU battles and for a car. I'm just very excited, I owe my aunt a little left from before fpu, all other family I have paid back, all credit cards are paid to 0 and not uses anymore, all cars owned, all continuing legal fees are paid cash. Thanks all if you read this far for hearing my debt free scream!

I found Dave quite accidentally, back when he was on tv. It was the debt-free screams that got me on board. I wanted THAT. We're on BS4+ now, mortgage should be knocked out in 5 or so more years (about 10 years early, we'll be in our mid-forties). Even now, with the dead weight of a mortgage around our necks, life is soo much better. So much less stress, so much more stability in our lives!

so is your mortgage payed off now? just curious.

There are so many debt free screams now. I remember listening to the show 15 years ago and it was a fairly rare thing. Now they happen all the time.

I think what made Brian Head Welch now standout to me is despite his amazing success (fame and financially) is he opened up on how his family is taking FPU because they didn’t turn to him for their financially problems.

Hi everybody. I’m 21 years old and don’t have any debt, no obligations and not much money either since I’m in college. I’m looking for a recommendation for a book. I don’t think I need a “money makeover” since I don’t have any debt to fix but I want to start right for when I have money. I’m from Spain too so if possible not a book too US focused. I would love if any of you could help me. Thank you!!

What's up dude. I'm also 21 and in college. It's a new book by Dave called Dave Ramsey's Complete Guide to Money. It contains the same principles obviously like The Total Money Makeover except it's in a different format.
