Yeah the 1k just isn't enough at all. 1k in emergency savings won't pay for any emergency. Save at least three months of expenses and then get into the debt snowball.

My thinking is that its more about getting people to be against debt, instead of it being a rational decission in the moment. Paying of low interest debt is just stupid, you are trading valuable money for lower value money in the future.

Why on Earth do people go into debt up to their eyeballs to buy cars? There is only one better way to burn cash than buying a nice car and that is to buy a nice car on finance! And two nice cars on finance? That's absolute lunacy. My wife and I didn't get our first decent car until we'd had our home paid off for over a decade and our son had left home. And even then, our "second" car was an old Mazda hatch worth a couple of grand, tops.

Never bought a new car and I'm in a good place financially. It's makes no sense might as well set fire to thousands of dollars. My current Lexus new would been $35k+ I paid $13.5k cash in 2020...worth more than I paid now ha. The argument that used cars arent reliable is laughable also...as some of the worst cars I've seen friends have issues with were new.
