Man, I hate to seem negative, but this made me realize how much I miss when Dave took calls on his own. No interjections from the "good cop" co hosts. Just Dave telling her how it is and not letting her off the hook. It's just so much better when he takes calls on his own.

I don’t mind the idea of two hosts, the issue is the hosts themselves. None of the others are confident giving financial advice, which is sad because this is pretty basic stuff. Ramsey Team - just go out and find a sharp, charismatic CPA to stick on the show. They’re out there, I promise. And let the other guys stick to their respective specialties.

A paid off house and no job is still better than a mortgage and no job with some cash in the bank. You can get a job at McDonalds and pay the utilities if the house is paid for. You can Uber or be a pizza delivery person. No debt gives you so much more freedom.

It’s funny how the mind work. I know someone that have a lot of money saved up but is afraid to take a huge chunk of it to pay off all their debts. But when you have very little saved up and you just pay off everything, it actually seem easier. I think it’s because you just see yourself as getting out the hole especially if you don’t have a nest egg to begin with. I think for people with a savings, even though the debt is gone, they see it as their cash is gone too. I think when you’re looking at it that way, it’s harder to make the decision to pay it all off.

Dave: It's all your income, it's all one pile, there's no bifurcation here. That was hilarious! I wonder how many people have a side hustle or a second job, and keep everything separate? Doing so adds complications, especially if you start to think you don't have enough of an income from one job to live off of, or enough from another to pay off debts. Household income equals total sum of all money received. If it fluctuates, adjust your budgets accordingly.
@filmislife77
@filmislife77 2 жыл бұрын
I do this All my rental income goes to one brokerage . 60% of my work income goes to coinbase. And all the money I make in premiums from selling options in my main brokerage stays there. It's really no different from people who put their money in envelopes and write what that envelope is for. The money I received in rent goes towards my real estate brokerage which will pay for repairs, upgrades or be a down payment on another property. It's a lot easier to keep this money separated for me to continue working towards my goals instead of keeping it in all one pile
@1timothydillon
@1timothydillon 2 жыл бұрын
@@filmislife77 That's cute, but what you just described is a business, which is different. When you handle rental properties, it's under different tax forms than it would be if you merely had two or three jobs. Same with your investments. If you're running a business, you don't buy a washing machine for your house, then try to right it off as a business expense. Not legally anyway.

I understand the guilt. I remember when I spent all 20k of my savings to payoff my student loans. Seeing that nearly $0 amount in the account is a slight ego hit. But then, you have to remember, the hardest number to get to in your net worth is $0. I realized every dollar I earn from then on is spent/invested wherever I want. Also, the relief of being debt free can’t be ignored. Yes, the day you pay it hurts, but months from now when you’re paychecks are out to better use, you will not regret it.

@@sXePunkV2 If the military paralyzes you, they also look after you... it becomes an issue of culpability when it is forced. Most employers will not look after you for life if something goes wrong. For a healthy person that never gets sick, weighing the odds of violent autoimmune reaction vs chance of sickness is a decision for someone and their doctor to carefully consider. A side benefit of less vaccinated people (though still above the hurdle rate) is more vaccines (sooner) for those that are at risk and need access to them. It also makes a subset of the population have less homogenized immune response to a threat, increasing the quality of the herd immunity. If everyone is programmed to generate one type of antibody, you open up the possibility that the threat could evolve around that defense (and likely will given how quickly bacteria and viruses evolve/adapt) - more diverse defense strategies makes that less likely to happen. My own personal view is that treating vaccines like therapeutics - prescribing them based on risk factors and overall exposure or a patient's worries - makes more sense than just giving them out to everyone or mandating them. This is not a popular view in North America, though much more common in Europe.

Her home renovation was a retaining wall. People don't build retaining walls because they want to. They build them because they need to. Also, when people are flush with money they don't dream about building a new retaining wall unless they have an overwhelming need to do so. I've been on a HOA board when we had to rebuild a number of retaining walls in my neighborhood. We had some liability concerns where a crumbling wall was likely to collapse onto a public sidewalk. An engineer had determined that the buildings on the soil held up by the retaining wall were not at risk of collapsing. Anyway, retaining walls are very expensive to build. The only construction company we could get to rebuild the new retaining walls was the same builder who had built the original ones about 20 years earlier or so. Many companies won't build them because they take special construction methods and knowledge like bridges. Also like bridges, there is a lot of liability with the walls if a wall prematurely collapses. When Morgan, the caller, said retaining wall I understood that that could have caused her major financial implications.

Retirement and/or brokerage Investment account that is also set to reinvest any dividends automatically. It takes a long time before compounding becomes noticeable as compared against your own contributions but it does happen and you will notice one day your account growth and dividend reinvestments exceed your own contributions. Compounding is the long game but ultimately incredibly rewarding seeing your account doing all the heavy lifting for retirement.
