Successful investing is hard work because it means disciplining your mind to do the opposite of human nature. Buying during a panic, selling during euphoria, and holding on when you are bored and just craving a little action. Investing is 5% intellect and 95% temperament

Government policy has thrown the future under the bus for decades. The day of judgment is near. I predict an 80% drop in the stock market. Investors will abandon stocks in favor of real estate. There will be no money in banks... You must devise a strategy for survival.

You're 27 years old. It is alright. The compound interest period has begun. To build a strong foundation and reduce risk while maximizing gain, I think all investors should begin with ETFs. From there, they should diversify across a range of asset classes and continue to invest consistently and systematically

You do not need to locate the next NVIDIA to be successful in investing. Simply choose top tier ETFs and work with a financial counselor, as I did. I turned $90,000 into $53,000 in annual dividends, which is a huge accomplishment for me today

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. I researched and found a licensed advisor who diligently helped grow my reserves despite inflation. Consequently, my reserves increased from $275k to around $750k.

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or whenever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

Even with the appropriate method and assets, some investors will still outperform others. As an investor, you should already know that nothing surpasses experience, and that is final. Personally, I had to seek advice from a stock specialist, which allowed me to build my account by over $35k, extract my profit just before the correction, and now I'm purchasing again.

My investment strategy involves closed-end funds with monthly dividend payouts. To maximize returns, I recommend holding onto these funds for the long haul, reinvesting dividends, and periodically adding more shares. The flexibility of buying and selling closed-end funds on the stock market makes this approach straightforward, potentially yielding $50,000 to $70,000 in annual dividend income.

Aggressive growth - any large cap growth fund, small cap, mid cap. Things like QQQ and the russell 2000 fit the bill. Growth - think S&P index Growth and Income - any fund listed as large value. Think big, slow growth companies like Exxon that pay dividends International - any NON US basket of stocks fund.

The point isn't that you actually eat only beans and rice. 😂. The point is no fancy foods. No crazy expensive foods. Keep your food budget down. Canned corn is 89 cents. Frozen corn is around $2.5. Price per serving in canned is better. Buy canned. Thats what this means. Buy with intention. Don't just go to the grocery store and buy whatever you want. Make a list. A meal planning that you never throw away food. And always ask... how can I do this less expensively? But reasonable sacrifices. Canned corn vs frozen corn is not going to compromise your health for 2 years. Its a reasonable choice.

You should not stop your 401k to pay off your debt, especially if your job offers match. Then you're losing all that basically free money that you get from them matching your contributions. What you have to understand is daves advice is NOT the most mathematically best way. His way is for people who wouldn't likely do any of this left to there own devices. He's trying to teach behavior. Asking a person to make 7 small changes overall years is a much easier ask than giving someone a math proof with 7 required changes within days. Personally I would rather the more mathematical way. But thats what daves thing is all about.

If you can get your money to double over and over, that 5th, 6th doubling is significant. The Rule of 72 says that you can divide 72 by your rate of return and that is how long it takes for your money to double. At a 5% rate of return, your money doubles every 14.4 years. At a 10% rate of return, your money doubles every 7.2 years. At a 15% rate of return, it doubles every 4.8 years.

Yes. That is actually a good way to set aside money for an emergency. It's a little less liquid than a savings account, so it is not right there for you to grab when a want presents itself (as compared to a need). CDs generally have a better interest rate, as well, so you more or less keep up with inflation as the CD matures. Build a "ladder" with a number of CDs, so you can cash one each month as you need the cash. As they mature, if you don't need them, renew them. CDs often have a penalty if you cash them in before their mature date. Be aware of that. Maybe a high yield savings account is a better option. It is still money sitting in a place away from your normal savings/checking, so there is a reduced chance you will dip into it, but it is more liquid than a CD.

So you can do a Roth IRAand a Traditional IRA at the same time? I have both but I'm told I can not invest in both at the same time or I will be putting money in it for no reason, there would be no tax benefit.

You can contribute to an IRA or ROTH a combined of $6K a year max. So not $6K each. Personally I would prefer a ROTH. (After you maxed out employer's contribution into your 401K)
@damondiehl5637

Combined contribution of $6,500 per year. There is no benefit when you do your taxes each year if you invest in a Roth account. But, there is a payoff in retirement as all the money in your Roth account comes out tax free. That could mean hundreds of thousands of dollars that you do not have to pay any tax on.

I think though this was well put out, it isn't for me. Factoring a young mid income, short term minded person with constant need for cash, are these still recommended? I am new to all of these and have incurred so much losses, I am beginning to think I am not doing what is good for me but good for others

I feel for you. New guys must realize the risks all these come with. You could lose everything and you could gain everything. It goes both ways. Secondly, what works for A must not necessarily work for B and you shouldn't be a bandwagon investor. Always make more thorough inquiries before putting your money somewhere or better still, get the services of a pro (that way, you give little room for error and get tailored investments). Made my first million earlier this year this way after a lot of trial and errors. Good luck!

Only reason to pay extra is if you know you'd waste that money on unnecessary spending otherwise. If you are disciplined you'd be better off focusing on saving and investing.
