Wonderful perspective here by Dave Ramsey but the Math is off by a tenth. Jay-z spending what he did is equivalent to: $420K/year spending $1K on the night. $42k/year spending $100 on the night. Still no big deal because they have worked for every penny. Definitely should not be a weekly thing.

Good math point. And here's an econ point: given the diminishing marginal utility of money, spending x% of your income on fun matters less as you get richer. So Jay-Z's spending really might be more like the 42K spending far less than $100.

They won't get a fair split because the management obviously noticed Jay and his crew. It's how it works out. I don't concern myself so much of the individual but of the waste in this country. Be it a man who makes $30K a year going out and spending $6K on wheels and lift kit for his truck or Jay spending $2,800 on a champaign bottle. Both are a waste in the end. That's why this country is where it is. We could all be so much better off, but wasteful spending is holding us back. The government does it, wealthy people do it and the common folk as well. Only because you Earned it doesn't mean spend it unwisely. Letting go of selfishness is key. I'm not talking about benefitting the lazy-freeloading leaches of this nation, but the hard working men and women, who just need to catch a break.
@Benelio6 жыл бұрын
Unless I'm missing something I think Dave has made a mistake in his Math here and is off by a factor of 10 in his examples. For Jay-Z who earns 42 million dollars: $42,000,000 / $100,000 = 420 . (e.g. he spent 1/420 of what he earns in one night) So for the Doctor Example on $420k to spend 1/420 of his earnings: $420,000 / 420 = $1000 (e.g - its the equivalent of the doctor spending $1k in one night) And for the lower income person on $42k per year: $42,000 / 420 = $100 (equivalent of 100 bucks on one night). In each case, it's quite a big chunk of money in these examples- but isn't going to break the bank. So Dave's point is still very valid.
@costco_pizza6 жыл бұрын
No one making 42k a year should be spending $100 in one night. Now that you listed these comparisons, it is clear that Jay-Z overspent for his night, and this kind of behavior should not be supported. I am very disappointed in Mr. Ramsey for supporting this.
@Benelio6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely frivolous. But if the hypothetical 42k a year person had no debt, had a rainy day fund, was still saving 15%, and it was a one-off (over the year) - do you still think it's unjustified?
@SimiGetsIt6 жыл бұрын
how is that frivolous, especially when he bought his own brands. he only lost about 60% of that money... the other 40 will come back to him. Beside Money is mean to be enjoyed, saved, and given.
@Benelio6 жыл бұрын
I meant the 42k person is being frivolous, spending $100 on one night, where they lose 100% of it - and given that their disposable income is a far lower percentage of their total income than someone rich like Jay Z.

For those complaining about Jay-Z's tipping, needs to look at the actual numbers on the bill. JayZ spent 74k on the bar tab before taxes. He elected to tip 15% of that number which was 11,110. So 74k + 6k or so taxes + 11k of tips=91k in the title. So yes he paid a 15% tip. Also it's also worth noting that tipping is a choice not a right. Just because you may choose to elect to tip 20% it doesn't mean everyone else including celebrities have to follow your personal guideline for tipping. I'm pretty sure the staff was more than happy to receive the 11k tip.

he could of dropped 100k every day of the year and still go home with 5.5 mil.. yeah 1 time won't hurt
@Khaltazar6 жыл бұрын
No he couldn't, you have to figure $42,000,000 is before tax gross amount, so he likely brings home around $25,000,000 - $28,000,000. If you divide $28,000,000 by $100,000, you only get 280 days. Still, I get your point, $100,000 per week or every 3 or 4 days would be nothing to him (given he doesn't spend any other money on other things such as house payment or buying other fancy items).
@DewTime6 жыл бұрын

I completely disagree. There are people out there suffering and having a hard time paying their bills and their mortgages, and we have to hear about how someone spent THIS MUCH for just one night? Absolutely disgusting. No one should be allowed to do this. Very disappointing that Mr. Ramsey is supporting this behavior.

It really is none of our business what Jay-Z spends his money on. If he wants to drop a $100k which to him is pennies on the dollar of his net worth and he isn't breaking the law, then we should mind our own business. It's amazing the millennial who is bagging on Jay Z probably has spent his hard earned money buying his music present or in the past.

91k is less then a days worth of income for him. Where I live people say to Double the tax when your trying to determine how to tip. His was only slightly under that. However do you think the server should complain that it wasn't 20%? Nope! She still made more in one night then she does in a couple of months (I would think). I'd honestly be upset if I was him and my waitress posted my ticket online. It's NO ONES business what he spends.

Dave Ramsey has a huge point so many people are so caught up in being envious and jealous over everyone else and there money that they’re not focused on how they themselves can do better or make more for them self’s, the way I see it is stop complaining about how much every one else is making and start focusing in on what your making and what you can do with it, jealously and envy get you no where but bitter
