I once put my 4000 cc bill on a zero interest for year Disney card. It worked for me. I never used that card again and they finally canceled it. The 18% was killing me and the car repairs and other things were taking too long to pay off. Discipline is needed for anything, weight loss, finance etc

This worked for me too. Got the new CC with 0% interest for 21 mths. 3:29 put all my other CC dept on it, and figured out how much money in each month I had to pay in order for the dept to be paid off in that 21 mth time frame. Working like a charm for me.

This is why Dave Ramsey has a "one size fits all" system - his system will work for the weakest *AND* the most disciplined, it's not as efficient as it could be for the most disciplined but if he gives different advice based on ability it dilutes the overall message for those who need it the most.

Public schools in cities nowadays aren’t what they used to be. I’m a single mom and It’s very hard not to spend I feel like I bleed money. I had my daughter when I was 20 and in college so I racked up a good amount of cc debt in school cuz I couldn’t work with my daughter and then came out with 40k in student loans. I’ve had a job for 5 years now and my income has steadily risen but where I live rent is ridiculous, gas is insane, I didn’t have a down payment for a car but I needed it to work so I leased which is expensive. I don’t buy make up or jewelry rarely get my nails and hair done or anything like that but it seems like every month there’s some bill to be paid or something that needs to be bought. My parents had to move across the country for work so there’s less help from them and they’re in their 60s and unable to retire. The cycle of poverty is real and very hard to get out of it. Doesn’t help the more you make the more the government just takes from you smh. I’m hoping to try and save more these next couple years luckily don’t have much cc debt but gotta get the student loans and the car paid off

@@martinezbiz You are too confident in your positions and your statements are based upon mountains of assumptions. The cost of living varies wildly across the country. It is entirely possible she is living below the poverty line on $83k gross depending on where she lives in the country. And that is without considering her unique circumstances which could very well be complex and nuanced. It is ok to be more humble and reserve judgement. We do not always need to be on the attack when it comes to others. We should be worried about our own lives and refrain from passing judgment on others. It is not our place or concern.

@@ironmantis25 lets assume 20k was taken off, she spends 14,400 a year on rent and utilities....if she was to spend 1000 a month on food, that would be 12000 a year....6000 a year for her kid private school. She has more than 2000 a month even after all those expenses. Let's not mention the tax refund she's getting back as well. Sounds like you like to make excuses.

This is where I was at the end of 2020. It is now January 2024 and it's now down to $6,300! It all started with preparing a spreadsheet, and then looking for ways to tighten it. I created a budget to pay a round figure each month, plus any interest accrued on the balance of the previous month, as well as purchases made during it. The key was staying the course. As long as I continue to stay the course, my magic number of monthly payments to being credit card debt free is down to a maximum of 9!

I retired and qualified for my pension. I went back and substituted full time to pay off my CC’s, build up my savings, and to purchase big items. I am not touching my TSA until I am 70. Pay off all of your debits, house, cars, and have money in the bank for property tax for at least 10 years before retiring. Working after retirement is for fun money and upgrades.

Dave really didn’t want to anger many of his listeners and tell this mom if you’re swimming in debt you can’t afford private school for your kids. Public school for a couple of years until you get out of debt then private if you can afford it.

It's a whole mental thing, to pay off debt. To not use cc's unless its dire. Something is on sale and too good to be true purchase and you buy it, thinking how much you have saved. BUT training the mind to think that that purchase is just going to put you that much more into debt. To imagine the numbers in your bank account going up and the numbers of your cc balances going down...every single time you want to buy something. Its really nice when you change like that, when you look at things as a financial burden rather than a must have.

I’m a single mom with a $75k income and what I’ve realized with my spending is that a lot of it is spending because of guilt of his dad not being there. Because I have a void I need to fill for Both of us, especially him and that’s what I see here with her sending her son to private school. It’s a need to give him those opportunities and know that she can provide just as well for him as her and the father could together. I bet she’s working a stressful job with long hours and still getting dinner on the table every night and getting her son to practice in the evenings. I understand you love and you’re not alone. 💙
