@KitariItsSomethingRottenHere6 ай бұрын
*He is, but that, both are the strongest and the weakest Ghost Point. It turned Ghost, in the end, into a Musical project rather than a Band, so all the vision and talent from all the other muscians participating: Guitarist, Bassit, Keyboard Players, etc are totally lost. More than ever nowadays since Tobias decided to take a more sell out and Radio Friendly view to his project called Ghost. Ironaically the Pandemic Killed Ghost.*
@@KitariItsSomethingRottenHere Nnnnnnno, the pandemic did nothing to Ghost. Ghost was messing around with styles before the pandemic, and it's not anymore radio friendly than the first three or so albums are. All that changed was he started bringing in more 80's pop and and 80's metal influences, as well as 70's, to mess with things. It has always been a musical project, or more a stylistic experiment, than a band. The Ghouls were by design, interchangeable.

The last solo on If You Have Ghosts is such an awesome Ghost moment. The solo is stellar but in this live performance, it's slightly flubbed at times. It's such a charming blemish and because of that, it is individually distinguished from the studio version solo while being exactly the same. Even the mistakes and the staggered success in fixing those mistakes on the fly, add so much color and character to the solo. Think about it like this. When you solo on the guitar, it's a moment of complete improvisation. Not everything you play is going to sound like gold. You're going to trip up and make a mistake. But it's not about falling; it's about getting back up. There's confidence and enthusiasm and vigor. Playing a picture-perfect copy of the solo in a live setting is just a pantomime of the real honest music. There needs to be moments of improvisation, to capture the essence of the solo that was made in complete improvisation in the first place. I don't know, I'm pretty stoned right now but I love this era of Ghost and can revel in the music until I die

It sounds so good because there are backing tracks playing as well. He has vocal backups and maybe some of the voices are just backing. No one else is singing and it’s his voice actually that’s doing the harmonies. It sounds tight because it’s on a click. No way of doing backing track vocal drop ins without a click.
@jeffr291618 күн бұрын
Maybe he is using click for the backing vocals but it's not impossible without click. I never used click while layering my vocals. Simply a matter of timing.
@Pinkeye8251717 күн бұрын
@ it’s absolutely click track. There’s no way it will be freestyle because each player just has to be a little bit out for it all to mess up. The reason why this particular session sounds so tight is exactly because they are on a click and being held back from drifting. If you have played live and with a band, you would know the drummer can get excited and usually speeds up. If they come in slower, again, the backing vocals would not match up. It can only work on a click unless he has a vocal harmoniser that switches on for the chorus. But that’s not what’s being used as you can hear it’s the same voice and delivery in the background for each time it comes in. A live vocal harmoniser would follow the changes in his delivery as opposed to being fixed. An example of this is the Mars Volta. Old band, I know. But if you watch some of their live videos, you can hear a good example of live vocal harmoniser as opposed to backing track vocals
@jeffr291617 күн бұрын
@@Pinkeye82517 yeah, I can imagine it's probably a harmonizer. And I thought you meant click just for the vocal layers. Clearly the band is using click. Definitely no way you can play that tight without. I did Death Metal so production meant cleaning up everything a bit and moving segments a bit without a whole lot more. At least that's what I always wanted, a bit of reverb and some compression. Anyways, Ghost definitely uses a few tricks in production.
@Pinkeye8251717 күн бұрын
@@jeffr2916 yes, and personally I don’t mind that at all. It’s great to have improvisation and maybe some tracks that are fully live. But I do like it when things are locked in tight and sound full like the records. So long as everyone is playing something, I think it’s totally cool to use backing tracks. This video is an example of how good a performance can sound with it
@jeffr291617 күн бұрын
@@Pinkeye82517 that's one of the reasons Ghost has the following that they do I think. They usually sound really tight even though they're all session musicians and the production is mostly top notch. There are of course other reasons like the fact that they leave hooks unresolved. But yeah, this video is really killer even if it is totally simple.
