For the uninitiated: Rocky Erickson is a highly unstable schizophrenic as, during his time in the 13th Floor Elevators - he took every hallucinogen under the sun and it brought out his predisposition to mental illness ten fold and he spent the next 20 years escaping from one mental institution to the next before being released and making music(my friend saw him a few months before he passed.) Now, back to Ghost: I find it unbelievably touching that Papa can invest so much emotion into lyrics that are essentially a bunch of gobbledygook/non sequitors. He really resurrects this song and it hits the hard hearts of young cynical fools like myself and clangs rhythm back into them! The channels are reversed. The only flaw in an otherwise perfect performance. Easily solved by reversing the left/right channels. But I can't be bothered, and I eventually got over it after about the 20th time I watched this. I've now seen this video about 50 times. Never gets old.

Ghost's rendition of this song, especially acoustic, emotionally overwhelms me. I feel deep sadness, yet comfort and completion at the same time. I cried the first time I heard this live.

I've been avoiding this band for years thinking they were just a gimic. I must say I fucking dig em now. intrumentally they are phinominal. Kinda reminds me of how rock was in the late 70s and 80s

The whole band is just a parody, the whole Satan worshipping thing. Obviously, they don't actually worship Satan. Once you get past the looks and gimmick, you can truly appreciate the music

I am in the exact same boat. I gave them a try with Prequelle, right at the start of the pandemic, and it hit a chord. I actually broke my inability to sing and play at the same time thanks to them. They got me through two rough years working from home.

If I didn't know any better I would never believe that Tobias didn't write this. His version is so...personal and saturated with feeling. He is just so special and this cover proves that. So special, so talented. Uugh my obsession is gross.

This is about the best live performance I have ever seen. So wild but moving! In was bad and imperfect on purpose to emotionally stir the fuck out of me. In one moment thinking about the loss of his brother but then me thinking for my dad and my loss. Phew 4 million views but should have 1 billion. Maybe not for all the time but when you need to heal a part of your soul!

Same here and I wonder if Roky had any idea how many people he helped with this song. Tobias took his raw, relatable lyrics and slowed it from its original frenetic pitch to a tamer but no less heart-tugging tempo which anyone can listen to and feel all of Roky's original meaning so deeply.
