There's another very different interpretation of the final scene. Vi grabbed the toy from episode 1 that she could previously never reach and gave it to powder, with some encouraging words akin to "believe in yourself and don't change." Then, the sherriff gets the message that she told Vander to send her if he was ready to give anyone up, but Vander's chilling at the bar with powder, he's totally not expecting enforcers to come down. Powder's not necessarily sad because she's being told she doesn't belong, I think Vi is the one person she always feels supported by. But she realised what Vi is about to do and so does vander once he sees the plushie toy.
@the.truth.doctor2 жыл бұрын
I LOVE this. Yes, I’ve been watching the plushie and seeing what it was implying. Thank you!!
@Jarecian2 жыл бұрын
@@the.truth.doctor What's interesting is that after her talk with Vander, she went from "I'm going to fight so something changes for the better." straight to "I'm going to sacrifice myself to prevent those I love from being harmed." My best try at interpreting this is that she is looking up to Vander, and trying her best to emulate him. But at the same time, she's about 16 years old, and some of the messages he tries to convey fly over her head. He wanted her to lie low, to stay out of harm's way, but she can't stop feeling responsible for Powder and is a character who can't deal with reacting instead of acting. Fighting is not an option, lying low is not an option, so surrendering herself it is.

Remember everyone, hyping up certain episodes can be seen as a spoiler as well! If you want the most out of their reactions then it’s best if reactors go in COMPLETELY blind
@KittyBoom3602 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but it's really not different than just hyping the show itself, is it? I wouldn't technically call it spoiling on its own so long as it's as vague as how you would hype the entire show to someone who hasn't watched it. Comments that are just basically saying it gets better on the psychology so please keep reacting seem fine to me. Plus, it would be a tragedy if she didn't make it to at least episode 3, the end of the first act.

Firstly, I'm so happy you've decided to keep going. I enjoy analytical videos and combining that with one of my favourite shows! Amazing combo! Looking forward to all the rest! A question, we see Marcus pull a gun on kids to stop them running (fortunately he doesn't get to pull the trigger). Can he easily do this due to the societal tensions between the two locations making him see them as lesser beings? Also, just a few observations: I didn't interpret the mountain scene as Jayce's mum being "brought back to life" but rather teleported them off the mountain - to a warmer climate thus saving her life. The old man isn't the head of the council. I think Mel was just "buying" influence with the present (to get more votes). The head of the council is Heimerdinger.

I think the point of the shooting range scene is also that powders skills aren#t as valued. She can shoot really well, but in this place that doesn't mean much if she can't keep up physically. I actually think that is also why Mylo espcially teases her so much: He is the physically weakest member of the group after Powder. He is shown to be more nimble with his fingers, he is the Tinkerer, not the fighter. But hhe also looks up to Vi and as we have seen, Vis way forward is ususally 'frontal assault'. The difference is that he is the same age as the others, so he needs to put Powder down in order to make himself feel less left behind It shows how this restrictive environment snuffs out or inhibits certain talents because they don't 'count'

Every reactor I've watched has the exact same reaction to episode 2. And I love it and felt the same way. Littlest critique I could give: When you discuss your reaction while the show is playing I worry you miss things. If you feel pausing too much breaks up your flow, don't change a good thing just because of my little comment. I still really enjoy your reaction and character analysis.
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
Because she certainly doesn't pause between conversations, she misses out on a lot of things based on both character interactions and visual narrative. The series is quite successful with the show, don't tell principle. The series was written with this kind of technique. There is a lot of visual narration rather than dialogues. Many small details are hidden, and often you understand the story better from these small details. Definitely stop the episode when talking about the scenes, Even in these first two episodes, too many details are hidden. Small facial expressions and small details can be seen during the scene, but you have to look. Visual explanation is too much.

Great insights and reaction! I love this series and your analysis seems spot on for these characters. I hope when you are talking to the camera you are pausing the show so you don't miss anything. Definitely show, don't tell is very successful with the principle. There is too much visual expression rather than dialogues. A lot of little details are hidden, and most of the time you get a better understanding of the story from these little details. When you're going to talk about certainty, stop the episode, too much detail is hidden even in these first two episodes. Small facial expressions and small details can be seen during the scene, but you have to be looking. Visual explanation is toooooo much.

I immediately got that Vi's interaction with Powder "What makes you different..." Was a good bye, especially when she punctuated it with the bunny... And the way that powder's face fell she took it as a goodbye. Which is why Vander was not able to cheer her up with what was probably her favorite drink. And when Vander was not able to cheer her up, and he saw the bunny, knowing both of the girls the way he did, he sussed out that Vi was turning herself in. Just because there's only the one interaction where Vander and Powder are alone, I refuse to believe that Vander was an absentee father with regard to Powder, leaving her completely Vi's hands alone.

Vander also notices something is weird about the bunny suddenly being back.

Just leaving this here to say I really appreciate your insights and the obvious effort you go through in editing and putting together these videos. Arcane is surprisingly deep, and intense in the way it grapples with certain topics, in a good way. It is amazing how well the animators make the characters telegraph their feelings via posture and (micro-) expressions. You can tell when they're lying, or what they're feeling even when not speaking. I'd argue it makes them more relatable than actors, because the makers have full control over every character independently of whether there was a very skilled actor available for the role. Of course, the excellent voice over helps, but still. Many people miss obvious clues as to what the character's true motivations are when watching Arcane for the first time because we're simply not used to seeing such detailed animations in characters. Normal animation only gets the broad strokes across. It's like an icon, an idea of an emotion, but it doesn't feel like the real thing, the rest has to be filled in with broad, obvious strokes. Arcane is extremely subtle, sometimes. It's so. Satisfying to watch. By now you'll have no doubt watched episode 3 -- I'm definitely looking forward to hearing your analysis. And I certainly hope you do the full nine videos, the Arcane Community would certainly appreciate it.

With Jayce, we see him ready to end it all after he's lost everything and everyone around him before Viktor appears. What do you think made him decide it wasn't worth trying anymore after he had been doing so much basically his whole life to achieve magic and help others? He was even ready to (and did) defy Heimerdinger's suggestion to not mention magic in order to save himself from the worst punishment, leading to a guarantee of at least something major happening to him. I don't think Vander is just acting on guilt and grief over what happened in the past; he's older and he thinks about the sort of world his actions will make 5 or 10 years from now. He thinks about whether his actions will help to accomplish his goals, or to hurt them. He wanted to fight for the Lanes and for his people, but the act of fighting actually harmed what he was fighting for, so now he considers what is really going to be best in the long term. Since he's older he understands how quickly the future comes, and he's more concerned with it than most of the (mostly child or young adult) characters.The guilt and grief over the past is there, but I don't think he's avoiding trauma as much as he's trying to take a wiser approach to accomplishing what he really wanted in the first place, which is protecting his people.

Vander tells her how she's a leader and people will do what she says in the same way he is or was back in the day. She knows what the enforcers want in order to keep the peace and thinks what would Vander do? Give up himself or someone else? Himself, so what does she do? Give herself up. So guess who shows up and stops her and takes her place because its what he would do as the protector of his family. Such amazing writing.

Something that seems to be uncommon on KZbin is a "Rewatch" - there's the "React" (like this one), but Second Watches or Rewatches seem to be either so rare that the search doesn't bring them up, or they just don't exist. But a show like Arcane... I wonder what a Second Watch would bring. How would some things look from the second viewing - like Powder showing up at the bar with Vi's bunny, and Vander's IMMEDIATE reaction to it (which wasn't mentioned in this video). Like Powder's failed attempt in Episode 1 to blow up her pursuer with a bomb filled with nails. Like Viktor's explanation about not asking for permission before changing the world. How do these all hit on the second time viewing the show?
