35:33 "Does it mean that much to him?" Yes, it does! As he said during the trial and in this scene with Viktor, he saw with his very own eyes what magic can do. It's his life dream to combine science+magic and bring it to the people, to help them in the same way he was helped when he was a child. Being robbed of that possibility is like cutting his wings off. He lost all his purpose and couldn't see a way out of it. Seeing his lab destroyed and his research/notes taken away must've really cemented the idea that his dream wasn't attainable anymore. You can see how much it means to him when he grabs the wristband and grips it with so much strength, like a lifeline. Amazing video, as always!

Vander impressed upon Vi the importance of finding another way to resolve problems which don't involve fighting. Thanks to Ekko, Vi knows Vander has a deal with Sheriff Grayson, so she sent the message back with the intention of turning herself in. Her talk with Powder was about reassuring her that even though she's not a fighter, she has qualities like her intellect which she can rely on. Giving the stuffed bunny to her sister was Vi's way of saying goodbye. Vander saw the bunny and, knowing the story behind it, deduced that Vi had gone off to do something rash. I love how much of Arcane's storytelling is told in subtle expressions and reading between the lines.
@Hohum37Күн бұрын
Also, the song playing is relevant "Our Love." It's what's motivating Vi.
@Hohum37Күн бұрын
I've always been interested in the way that Viktor interrupts Jayce. I think he's aware that Jayce is about to jump - but he doesn't exclaim "Don't jump." Instead, a completely dissonant question. "Am I interrupting?", and then talks about the single most important thing to Jayce, his work - finally handing back his wrist-strap - emblematic of returned hope.

Happy to see another reaction but OMG i wanted to fix the loop in your headphone wire 😅 1) Teleported down the mountain 2) Stone is a conduit 3) Mother had severe frostbite/loses three fingers 4) Experience shaped his life and started his exploration/inventions with magic 5) yes, stone is on his bracelet 6) the thing about things like the ARCANE is humans either weaponize it OR think they can control it, only with age and experience can you be like Heimerdinger and understand like he said "some things are better left alone" 7) the planet is called Runeterra fyi 8) Jayce is now 'pariah' status, you see this all the time with people in power ignoring the very existence of others beneath them 9) Vander's look is very much a look of sad acceptance that 'letting it blow over' isn't going to happen like it hoped it would, he'll have to do something, he'll have to give them someone 10) The bridge is named The Bridge of Progress and is the connector between Piltover (Topside) and Botside/Undercity (named something later). It reminds me very much of the Berlin Wall, a physical area of separation, difference and it's EXTREMELY important throughout the entire series. Vander also brings her to the memorial for the victims of that rebellion. 11) Yes, the bunny was VI's toy that someone threw up on the wires 12) Yes, Grayson gave the canister to Vander to send a message ONLY to her 13) VI sent the canister to turn herself in, Vander realizes the bunny has been given to Powder FOR SAFE KEEPING AND TO COMFORT HER, VI is waiting in Benzo's shop because that's where Vander meets Grayson. 14) Random comment: There are SO many little things I hope you remember and recognize later in the series because one of the beautiful things about this show is the character development BUT that some things never change. An example is the cup with the straw for Powder. It really brings you back to the beginning of it all. Hope these explanations help!

So in this episode, after her talk with Vander, Vi decides to give herself up to enforsers in order to keep peace(following Vander's teachings). She has a goodbye talk with Powder and gives her the toy as a goodbye gift. Vander and Powder are not awere of her decision, we see Vander realizing it when he sees Vi's childhood toy with Powder. I personally find it one of the examples of Vander's words influencing in ways he did not mean. I might be reaching and overthinking with this one, but do you remember Vander in ep 1 saying "Whatever happens - it's on you."? Obviously, he said it with the intention of teaching her responsibility, and obviously, he couldn't even imagine what will happen in the future, but after episode 3, I imagine she remembered those words in a different way.

Heimerdinger is a Yordle! They're basically a race of spirits who generally take the appearance of mammalian bipeds in the League of Legends universe. Or you can simply think of them as little fluffy guys. They don't die as well, they just get reborn. Oh and the little fluffy pet he has is called a Poro! They're kinda like a mascot for League of Legends.
@gzilla97Күн бұрын
Regarding the end of this episode, I think it boils down to Vander's conversation with Vi on the bridge. You observed that Vander--using his past experience as his guide--tried to convince Vi of the potentially terrible consequences that could occur should Vi pursue the path of violent retaliation. "Who are you willing to lose? Powder?" As a leader, big sister (and parentified), perhaps Vi, trusting in Vander's wisdom, had some sort of epiphany. Also, Vi confided in Powder both an intimate personal secret and painful childhood memory (a situation in which she was powerless)--losing her cherished toy to an act of another kid's cruelty (another sort of violence). Vi retrieving her stuffed animal and freely giving to Powder her most prized childhood possession seems like both a loving act as a big sister and maybe some sort of fundamental shift in Vi's perspective and maturation--a turning point.

I was so excited to see that this episode reaction was posted! I really liked your thoughts about the "body is imprisoned/mind is free" comment from Heimerdinger. I thought you were going to go the complete opposite way and write him off completely but I'm happy that I was wrong! Imprisonment can be so hard on people's mental health and really break them- especially solitary confinement situations. The connections you made to therapeutic work made me think of Viktor Frankl and how he was able to get through the horrors he was subjected to by finding strength in his mind and perspective being something no one could take from him. So much insight from one little line!

Yeah that's interesting because I viewed it the complete opposite way. That Heimerdinger, someone who is so incredibly cerebral, sees imprisonment of the body as almost a pointless punishment. Especially considering he has all the time in the world. It just shows more and more how Heimerdinger is unable to relate to the average life span of a person, and the restrictions that imposes.

Grayson is indeed voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo, who played Deputy Undersecretary Krisjen Avasarala in the Expanse. An amazing voice and I never get tired of seeing her on screen! How did Vander look? As Sevika said, he looked weak. The boss of the Undercity was pushed around by the Enforcers in his own lair in front of his own people. My favourite little moment of the episode is when Vi asks Vander what they'll do, and Vander says he doesn't know, they'll figure it out. Contrast to the episode before where a similar question was posed "We're gonna be fine, right:?" "I'll take care of it." Unlike the E1 Vi is shouldering the responsibility asking what will we do, rather than tacitly asking Vander to handle things. Vander, instead of taking that on, says he doesn't know. That look in Vi's eyes is a mix of fear and worry - I wonder if it's the first time she's really seeing Vander as fallible, less than superhuman. I'm always surprised when people don't work out what happened in this episode - to me there's only one possible answer. Vander doesn't know what to do, Vi is taking his lessons about responsibility to heart, and was giving Powder some very weighty, significiant words. That sounded like a goodbye to me. Vi knows about Vander's deal, and the message capsule. She's broken into Benzo's shop, and the enforcers are coming. Vander realises something, with horror after looking at Powder's glumness and the bunny toy. These are all pushing the same conclusion. Vi is doing something responsible and nonviolent after giving some big, heartfelt words to Powder. Vander doesn't know what she's doing. Vi is in a crime scene and the Enforcers are approaching, so someone's told them to go there.
@HawkidoКүн бұрын
Not wanting to fight and wanting to protect others from violence are not signs of weakness, they are signs of cognitive dissonance. When someone seeks to harm you, though either apathy or malice, you must establish a boundary. That boundary will ALWAYS involve force and consequence. Vander was FAILING to protect others and was stopping them from protecting themselves. Vander is Power and Morality without Vision. Silco is Vision and Ethics without Morality. They both need to work together to achieve the goal they both share. But history has divided them against each other.

Jayce's identity is very tightly coupled to his inventions. They are his passion, and have been for most of his life. He's just had his entire workshop confiscated and told he is no longer welcome in the academy where he studied, which completely cuts him off from most of his resources and avenues that he knows how to use. The only thing he has to fall back on is his family's holdings, which is something, but it's very distant from Jayce's passion. So I imagine this punishment must have felt like he'd been cut off from his soul. Until Viktor offered him another way. :)

A bit of (spoiler free) orientation from someone else who hasn't played LoL. It is set on a world called Runeterra, which is what you see in Jayce's flashback. The city of Piltover is located on that narrow stretch of land in the centre. Viktor's name reveal is announced for a reason, which is significant for players. The rest of us needn't worry, and can just enjoy how his character develops. It's interesting to me that a few people other than you have been thrown by what's going on at the end of this episode. It seems obvious to me what's going on, especially if you replay the bridge conversation, where Vander is letting his guard down, being honest with Vi, treating her like an adult, revealing to her that he's struggling to resolve the situation.

Tried to make this as short as possible but also something to understand quickly. I will be pointing out the details that explain what's happening and what Vi is planning. Spoiler free. Vi took the message shuttle from Vander. She got the bunny toy down, something that symbolized Vi's "weakness". She got over her weakness and frustration, and gave the bunny to Powder. Something to symbolize herself to Powder. Vi is going to be giving herself up to the enforcers to save everyone else. That's why she went to Benzo's shop. Also Vander didn't know Vi took the message thingy. He looks confused when he can't cheer up Powder. Powder only has the bunny to cling to. The last thing she got from Vi. Vander looks at the bunny, recognizing that it's the toy Vi had as a smaller kid. He thinks, and finally understands what's upsetting Powder. Vi is giving herself up to save Powder and others.

@ glad your enjoying the series wife and I just finished season two!!! (No spoilers) I’d say from a writing perspective and probably a psychological perspective season 1 is better, but 2 Is just a real fun ride!!!

I can totally empathize with jayce. He is a researcher. The work he has dedicated so many effort, his dream, is all going to trash. No one believes in him, not even his mother who indirectly called him a fool. He has dedicated all his life to science to that moment yet he can't do it anymore because he has been expelled forever and called a misfit. What is he gonna do now? just give up and keep living pretending nothing happened? From his point of view, he has lost everything and there is no way to build it again. His work was his purpose and he has lost it. It's a like a big part of him died, leaving a hole that can't be filled. And I think those holes, even by having supportive people by your side, are painful enough to make you feel your life isn't worthy even when that's not true, because you are blinded by the pain of feeling incomplete
