You’re missing a huge part of his message. He frequently says his way is not everyone’s way, that his choice of “test” i.e. extreme physical and elite military training, is not for everyone. His message is that whatever it is you do, don’t settle for mediocrity, try to be uncommon even among uncommon people, and strive for excellence to your fullest extent (not necessarily HIS fullest extent but YOURS) every day. “Stay hard” is metaphor, not a directive to be unhealthy. Nor does he hold himself as anyone’s therapist. He shares his example to demonstrate that no matter who you are, or from what condition you start, you have more potential in you than you realize. Any therapist that argues with that message isn’t one that would get a dime of my money or a minute of my time.

I have to admit that I am not an expert on his philosophy and I agree with everything you laid out in your comment. Now gimmie your time and money. Just kidding.
@Excalibur833 Жыл бұрын
@@danielchu I realized the way I worded the last sentence implied it was directed at you particularly, but it was a generalization (much hazard in generalization). But yes, in many of his videos, he admonishes “Don’t get it twisted” in that it’s not about being a S.E.A.L., or how far you can run, or titles or any of it. “A hero is not a guy with a gun” is one of his expressions. A hero, if such a thing even exists, is someone who, in that split second of overwhelm in face of a task that is a necessary obstacle to a desired goal, learns to quiet the mind that is screaming “we gotta get outta here, quit this, we’ll never make it” and reorder his/her thoughts, retain perspective, and not make thoughts and feelings masters of destiny. Of course, he isn’t the only person with such a message, but what unceasingly amazes me is how he figured all of it out himself, from a very dark place, and summoned the courage even to begin to become the person he is today.

I have accomplished things that I never would have if I had not found out about Goggins. But I never took his message literally like run until I sustain health issues. Just take it with a grain of salt bro. The message is: there is a lot more in the tank than we think, and no matter what our past is, we are capable of being great when we never quit. Good luck with your journey as a therapist bro.

Having an oppressor's mindset isn't health either, and that's exactly what Goggins has. Basically, he's punishing himself constantly. The only way he can feel a sense of self-worth is to constantly prove to himself that he's strong and tough, which, if you couldn't tell by now, is a cycle that never satisfies. It's very clear that without physical activity and strain, this poor guy would crumble emotionally. Even the way he says "bitch" when referring to his internal voice has so much hatred attached to it. Motivating as he may be, he's also very traumatized, fragmented individual who has deep, deep issues surrounding self-love.

Cause if you work then you work on gaining muscle, losing weigh/bulking, better diet, more focus on sleep, mood changes, mental strength, you body after a workout has no time to be sad. You body is trying to relax and make sure you are ok, turn your inner pain into anger that is let out in a workout, and once you recover from a the workout day. You actually feel good. For going outside. It common sense that going outside and being in nature will actually help you. Just sitting on a bench is enough just do 5 minutes a day or something like that. He said when you're in a survival situation that you should rest as much as possible before moving out. I use that piece of advice every day. When I was in the US army I had mentality that a good night's rest was for the weak. That mentality caught up to me and I had health issues because of it. Now I treat my body a lot better and it pays off. What David Goggins is promoting will lead some people to do bad things to their body they'll regret. David Goggins said something in his 1st book that is so simple yet profound and when you see it in print you realize it can change the trajectory of your life...He basically says motivation is bulls***. It comes and goes. It's fleeting. it's discipline that wins out 100 times out of 100 times. Meaning, make good habits a habit. Make it like it's brushing your teeth. Eventually you ignore all of the yellow and red lights trying to stop you from doing something. Example, "it's cold and rainy, i'm not motivated to go out there today for a run." The disciplined person says, "its Tuesday, and I'm running." They ignore all of the variables that might make them stay in bed and their body just acts. That's the difference between being average and being excellent in my humble opinion.

A few things I've seen with these guys is that they often push their limits so far that they think they really have no physical limits.... therefore they go till injury and often go right back too quick and get injured again. When they are 75 years old they will still think they have no limits physically. I know of one guy that dislocated his shoulder and had to be sedated to put it back in then he went back the next day and did the very same activity with exactly the same result.... dislocated shoulder.... sedated to put it back.

If theres anything that you want to take away from goggins is this : next time your running an hour and think you did too much you deserve a rest you studied 2 hours straight and you think you may have overworked yourself remembre this Goggins ran 39 hours straight and is still alive today , your human potential is way higher than you think he did it so you know you can too , now stop the bitch inside and push harder if you still wondering how much is too much when you reach your absolute max you will drop and feint so aim for that and i assure you that line is way further than you think🙂

This was the first video I saw when I searched “David Goggins hate” on KZbin. I actually can kind of understand what you’re feeling and I don’t know why you’re the first video that pops up, you don’t hate this guy. i think i see what you mean by you can’t help but laugh… I know you’re not laughing at him or with him, but i remember when I first saw Goggins: First thing I said was “really dude?” And I never understood his motive. I thought it was another influencer who wanted fame like everyone else. 4 years later, I read “Can’t Hurt Me” and I’m blown away. I see the world in a new perspective and I understand that it’s not Goggins, Peterson, and Tate purposely preaching this stuff. They are LIVING this stuff. Goggins literally says that he doesn’t care your identity, matter of fact is you’re human and you’re able to exceed beyond your expectations. it’s such a fantastic message to society nowadays but we’re so hung up on being comfortable that we don’t end up reaching that 100% Good review of him though, hopefully you read his book and can dissect his mindset along with your own. Stay Hard, friend!

Goggins was physically abused for most of his childhood. His behavior is a trauma response. It’s self-harm. He made the most out of his situation, but takes it too far. He runs twice a day and it appears he sees his value in enduring abuse. As long as he abuses himself harder than he was abused as a child he feels in control.
