My daughter is 10. Last year she shared with me that she sometimes looks at the bridge near her bus stop before school and thinks about jumping. I’m not perfect in reality sometimes I feel I can barely pass as capable. I don’t even see her as unhappy. Of course she gets mad rules chores homework but I thought that was normal kid stuff. She doesn’t lock herself behind walls she showed me no warning that she didn’t feel good about herself/life. We got her into therapy after that (btw not long ago) but I have so much guilt for not knowing she was feeling that way.

Don't feel guilty kids take a while to learn about life I'm still learning about life your still learning about life but kids take a little longer for therapy to sink in but I will pray for her that she gets better 🙏

18:30 Therapy Session, for me, is the album where he started fully changing the "normalizing discourse" (see: "NF - The Power of Vulernability" by the YT channel throughline). I've been listening to NF since he released Mansion, and I felt a deep draw in the music and lyrics, but at the time I didn't fully understand how much I connected to and needed his music. When he released Therapy Session, I was onboard 100%, because he started really changing the way I viewed this type of music. It isn't just dark, moody, or depressive, but actually like you mentioned earlier, "a hand reaching out" and letting us know we aren't alone. Over the following few years I continued following his album releases, and truly enjoying his music. Then, The Search album came out at a perfect time, and the song "My Stress" really came at a moment in my life where I wouldn't have made it without it. I had it on repeat for weeks on end, and I cried over and over while listening until all that troubled me just seemingly faded away. I have no real words to describe what it changed in me, but it was enough to empower me to keep pushing forward. All that said, I just can't wait for more reactions from you Keilani! These are such a treat, and give me further reassurance that we aren't alone, so thank you!

am now 30 spent 28 years bottling all that trauma up, couple years ago i found NF's Music and it helped me go seek out therapy and still go to this day. and people always ask me "what is therapy like" and i always say "think of your house with boarded up windows and everything you try to keep hidden has been festering inside that house, therapy Not only helps you confront the house but it helps you slowly come to understand the house and everything that lives inside and helps you air it out so the smell/sight isnt so overwhelming anymore its a journey of self understanding/healing you had scars that never healed now they are slowly." thats my experience (still is) with therapy.

from alot of NF music first time i heard the songs, i cried, and laughed, i cried because i can relate to some of the things, i laughed because i can relate, and because he explained the things in such a brilliant way, so i was like, aww yes this is how im gonna explain the way i feel and think, so kinda a relief i guess, even used some of them at some of my therapy sessions..

The words you spoke regarding parenting being more than just buying a happy meal and not being physically violent (I'm paraphrasing of course)... I really felt that. My whole life I've struggled with anxieties and issues with self-image often leading to bouts of depression. In all my years of reflection I've come to believe that a broken relationship (or lack thereof) with my father is at the core of a lot of it growing up. I feel like some people have looked at my words (I wrote a lot) and think stop whining, at least my father was physically there, at least he didn't beat you. He was and he didn't but the brokeness between us still hurt, and I believe still affected me significantly. I've always described him as presently absent and even that was not 100%. He and my mother separated for a brief period when I was pretty young. I don't even remember the dates or the specifics so much as a lingering feeling that never really went away. Even when he returned, even the years he was physically present I always felt awkward and inadequate. I never felt like he understood me or cared enough to even try. I've struggled with weighing these feelings my whole life, back and forth, between this is real, these were/are legitimate feelings verses get over it, stop whining, so many others had it worse. But at the end of the day it is part of my experience whether anyone else understands it or not. I still write regularly and my poetry is in part my therapy, like NF's or similar artist's lyrics are to them.

My way of convincing a self deleter not to delete themselves is the same way I keep myself from self deleting which is to tell myself that if I actually went through with it then I AM a worthless pos who deserved it because how could you do that to the people in your life who love you. Lmao so keep me far away from them. It works for me but it could drive others TO do it.
