Midwest Indigo likely means depression in Ohio. Tyler calls this song a song for Ohio where he grew up. Indigo is a deep blue/purple colour, lyrics discuss "a different blue, it' deeper than it's been" so indigo likely means having the "blues" which likely means depression. The theme seems to be about suffering from anxiety/depression, reaching out to others, and not having them support you or take you seriously. The dude is Josh's brother as his wife wasn't available at the time of filming.

also i dont remember where but im pretty sure tyler has talk about how winter is very depressing for him so it especially fits with the video

The "Reaching out on my way home, You can be so cold, I'll try again, You make me sad and second-guess myself" to me like how being with someone who's distant. It's like I always tried so much to make it work, but no matter what, it's like I'm talking to a wall you know. It's as if I had to question what I was even doing. And communicating didn't work, because then I was the fault..

In interviews Tyler talks about how he does get season depression and Ohio is bad for that as the winters can get really cold. Josh moved to California (he’s back in Ohio now) but when they would speak about that they’d always mention the cold and season depression. I think this song really relates to that. Indigo being like blue, blue representing melancholy. Ohio Depression essentially. I love this track so so much

Maybe I’m reaching here, but when Tyler mentioned a counselor, I thought about the biblical “great counselor”/“wonderful counselor.” As a callback to songs like “Implicit Demand for Proof,” “Addict with a Pen,” and “Trees,” about Tyler struggling to find God. Of course we know God never cancels on us, but it can feel that way sometimes.
