Since the album was made during the pandemic, I always thought the masks she means are the face masks. And by signing the “masks off” she’s basically saying “the pandemic is over” and that makes her happy. But the “figurative” masks you talk about make sense too, since trading violets for roses is basically putting a mask on, making unwanted and forced changes…
@thealluringmysticc Жыл бұрын
I definitely interpreted the “masks off” part as a double entendre, as both a literal and metaphorical thing.

My interpretation of the girls with their masks off, the bookstore doors opening and it finally happening is referring to C*VID, since this album was released during the p4nd3mic. also for the lyric “the rallies have ceased” i believe that she is indeed referring to black lives matter. since this record was written and released during covid, i believe that the line about the rallies and the line about the masks are both centred around events during 2020 (the pandemic and blm) by saying that both of these are over - she’s setting the scene of a time of peace where both the pandemic and social injustice have subsided to a degree and life has become slightly better than it was a few years ago. and despite acknowledging that the shadows of these events are still there, she’s still able to enjoy the small things in life while healing from the past.
@Gold26502 Жыл бұрын
i could talk about this song forever, the true essence of this song lies in the chorus, Lana likes violets and has described her identity similar to that of a violet in a few songs, roses symbolise love and as u mentioned, conventional appeal in a way, it’s a simple, loved by most flower, but average. You made me trade my violets for roses translates to you made me trade myself/ my happiness for your love. When she says “the simple life i chose this” is said in a bittersweet way, meaning that she was aware of the change and compromise she was making, so she chose to adjust herself in order to be loved by this man, she calls it simple because it is a thing that happens quite commonly in relationships, it’s the simple/ easy road to take, to change yourself in order to be loved by someone else.

12:05 pink nail polish especially in the toes is something I do for me, normally no one else appreciates it. My mom always says “why didn’t you choose another color, a neutral one?” because the neon pink I like just isn’t elegant. For me this line It’s about girlhood, that he tried to make her more like an serious, elegant and polish woman for him when all she wanted to do is paint her nails pink

one thing to keep in mind is that she often uses words to sound like something else, like in White Mustang she sings these words to sound like “why am i staying”. maybe by violets she also means “violent”, to show that she’s not this perfect beautiful rose, she can be violent too, like she has this darker side that wants to be accepted
@anthonyapgz4936 Жыл бұрын
But the word violent doesn't match with the idea of the song and the structure of the chorus. The violets is more like "her real thing", that's the thing that she likes, not the roses.

This is and forever will be my favourite song from Blue banisters. All the fury, all the rage, regret, tension and sadness throughout her music has led to this song. There's nothing more phenomenal than feeling free; it might be from a person or the different sh*t that goes on in the world. When people try to trade someone's beauty or truth for something superficial and fake it is a really hard to keep yourself happy. Whatever Lana speaks about here I resonate with so much. I LOVE IT ❤️ Thank you Mere for reacting to this it made my day, I hope you are okay and so is your son. I love ya'll.

Love this video✨ Also, I think that Violets may represent herself, as she reported, that blue is her favourite colour and some other stuff around it and Roses are meant to be the symbol of love, that’s why the meaning can also be understood like “You made me trade myself for your love”, something as the pressure to change for someone you explained.❤️ Please, do Swan song in the future!

I hope some day you can react to Florence Welch. She has been an advocate of feminism and has discussed mental illnesses in her last album. I feel like you could understand her metaphors, diction and the deep meanings it has. Particularly in “King”, she expresses a secret feminist meaning. Proclaiming “I am no mother, I am no bride, I am King”, the track addresses the tough realities of being a woman in the music industry, referencing motherhood, marriage, and femininity. It magnificently explores the sacrifices that all women - not just artists - make in their careers, attacking the tensions between becoming a mother and sustaining a career. 💜 That is why I am looking forward to it if you someday could listen to it. ❤

I really enjoy your content. As a genxer I think it’s up to us and Millennials to be an example to younger women that every emotion is acceptable. Being angry, crying, grief all of it is worth feeling it. Please don’t run to someone or something to numb yourself after a breakup. Because you’re denying yourself the most beautiful powerful life changing experience. It’s just like she said. On the other side crippling grief, anger and heartache is a freer version of you. You come out of it with a whole new shift in perspective. You now know and understand what you DON’T Want. Take this time for yourself. Stay single. Fall in love with yourself. Cultivate your friendships, spend time with family, travel join a gym. Learn how to say no. Learn to establish boundaries ❤

FINALLY! I knew you’re gonna love and connect to it, Lana it’s just amazing, this lyrics talks about something relatable to many of us like trying to change for someone else, things about us we should never let go off so this sense of freedom and embracing yourself again it’s so powerful and healing 💜💜💜 Just a note, you don’t need to apologize for stopping or talking about your book! This should be your safe space and by doing it we also feel safe here! Actually I would like to thank you for the job you’re doing and this community you created. This monday my grandfather passed away and I tend to be the kind of person that easily comforts others but don’t know how to react inside, I need some time to distract myself while digesting everything and when I saw your video up I literally felt this “sweet summer breeze”, like having a safe space to take my own time without that heavy weight from grief and be vulnerable at the same time. Not running from anything but just allowing myself to take this lightly. Obviously I’ll miss him and that hurts but also I couldn’t be more grateful, he died peacefully at 95 years old during his sleep, and as sister from church said “God picked up a flower from him garden” and he’s finally resting… And here I am being able to share this here after understanding my own feelings, slowly releasing from it after watching many of your videos and seeing how vulnerability isn’t always scary when you find respectful people that are growing as well and instead it is beautiful and comforting, so thank you! Please never stop and never give up. 🌻

I love how we are all finally trying to inspire and support our younger generations of women. Please, stop falling for the manipulation out there. All the posts and videos asking us who Wore it Better? Who sang it better? Who looks better? No more. They want us to compete and hate each other because they’re terrified of us coming together, lifting each other up. We need to realize what black women already know. That is allowing another woman to shine does not dull your sparkle. ❤
