i think "my mother to be said she wouldn't come" probably means that the mother of the groom not attending the wedding and their relationship being disapproved of by others. also lack of family approval in marriage may indicate that the relationship was doomed from the beginning.. such a beautiful song

Love this! 'Mother-to-be' could also mean her fiance's mother said she wouldn't come maybe because she didn't accept her? That was always my interpretation and I thought dang that would hurt. Edit: It just hit me that Lana's relationship with her own mother probably made the rejection from a future mother-in-law that much harder. I hope that since Ocean Blvd she's become more comfortable speaking about her own mother basically abandoning her, she'll release this masterpiece some day. “Ivory almonds” or “Jordan almonds” are candy coated almonds that you usually have at your wedding. I think it’s typically an Italian or Greek tradition. My family is Italian and my mom still has some of hers in a jar (I think it’s like good luck to save them you can’t throw them out? I’m not sure) I don’t really understand it but yeah it’s a wedding thing. I also read it could be a term used for pills, but I’m not too sure how accurate that information is. @RockCandySweetNecklaces clearly you’re not a real fan if you don’t know how uncomfortable lana is with people listening to and spreading her unreleased songs that were leaked. she also didn’t plan on releasing said songs, they were personal to her and stolen. serial killer was released in 2018 so it makes sense for lana to have performed it in the past. it’s not hard to go look and see how many times lana has said it makes her uncomfortable and that it’s not okay in the past year alone.

i LOVE this song! one of my fav songs from lana. it's so fragile and feminine.. fine china, fresh linen, dresses with tags on, white horses and all, it all sounds like a woman's dreams of happily ever after being shattered and she has nothing to do about it.. which is something i think every woman can emphatise with. just beautiful. i feel like ''birth of your baby, birth of your son'' means the man she was planning to get married with had an affair and that resulted with another woman having his baby, and that coincided with her wedding somehow.. she wore diamonds for her wedding, the same day he had his baby and his mother didn't want him marrying another woman who's not the mother of her grandchild. ''one love begins, one comes undone'' means he preferred this other woman and his child, and his love for her is over. same with ''one life begins, one comes undone''.. his son's life began that day and hers' is over..

Yay I suggested this song! I always interpreted the material things she mentions to be for the wedding that didn’t happen. So all she’s got left after he left is the material things that were meant for the wedding but are now unused, reminding her of what could have been. Now some comments mention they stand for drugs, maybe they have a double meaning here idk? Like drugs or disapproval of others could have been reasons for the breakup - „they really got the best of us“ „my mother [in law] to be said she wouldn’t come“ (because she didn’t approve or simply because there was no wedding to go to). I associate white, coated almonds with weddings (don’t know if that’s an international or local tradition) also the unworn dresses and maybe it could be fine china (something blue) fresh linen (something new) dull silver (something old)? Maybe that’s a reach lol.. either way this song is so beautiful and sad and has so much to it, thank you for reacting to it!

@@laincoubert7236yup after the whole story of “ultraviolence” she still says i’ll see you on the flipside on a bonus track. but this was a label decision, she’s said before she doesn’t like bonus tracks. ultraviolence she had 5 bonus tracks and that was the last time! her label really did not like ultraviolence and she had to make some compromises in order to release it 🩵

This is one of my favorite unreleased Lana songs and here’s my interpretation. I believe this song is a suicide letter to Lana’s would be husband who left her at the alter. When she speaks of the Fine China and the white horses, and the dresses with the tags still on them (probably for her bridesmaids who never got the chance to wear them) I believe she is addressing the preparation and her hopes and expectations of her dream wedding and holy matrimony with her husband to be that ended up never happening. When she repeats the lyrics “I’m going down now” I believe that is alluding to suicide, and becoming completely destructed from the heartbreak and loss of becoming a wife and a mother, and losing everything she’s ever wanted.

Hi! You were amazing as always!Thank you! I feel like in this song she talks about a very familiar feeling of not being chosen despite all of the efforts we sometimes put in someone/a relationship. We can try our hardest, we can offer everything we have and they still always run alway, always choosing the next best thing. When she talks about the fine china, the silver, the linen, I think she is using them as metaphors for all the beautiful, rare and still delicate things she can offer, but are always refused. To be honest, i’ve felt that way a feel times in my life and the song resonated a lot with that: when you know you’re enough, but still no one wants what you have to offer. That said, i would love to suggest you also start doing Florence and the Machine! They have great songs with very deep lyrics. I would love to hear what you have to say about their songs too, especially Big God, which I think you’d love!

Lana was dating a Italian guy, everything was fine and she wanted to marry him but he said no, saying he didn't want this kind os stability in his life at that moment, so they broke up. A few months latter, he married another woman, and Lana was both sad and angry. And that's how Honeymoon album came out. It even has a song called Salvatore (haunter in Italian). I think it all makes sense now!

Her "mother to be" is her mother in law. So her mother in law hated her, didn't agree to the marriage. Seeing this song on videos made with the movie "Spencer" which is about Princess Diana's Marriage, puts a lot of perspective into the lyrics. Also in the first verse with the "I wore diamonds for the birth of your baby for the birth of your son" and saying how her husband to be packed his things and was gone, sounds like she was supposed to be married to a man, but then had an affair with another which resulted in a kid. So then I think in the second part of the song she's getting married to this man she has a son with, and her mother in law doesn't like the situation cause maybe she doesn't believe the baby is really his. Maybe her mother in law thinks she's just after their money or something. That's one way to look at it.
