This song was the one I connected with most when this came out as I was a teenager. It spoke a lot to my relationship with my Mum, the pressure, control and expections, not being who they thought I would be. Also the numbness from my depression and SH (which I feel I did for both the reasons you gave when you explained why, because I was numb so often, it was overwhelming when I did feel). I'm 35 now and I'm still majority in that fog, but I'm 15 years SH free now, but this song still hits me hard

Never knew about the term functional freeze until now. I remember at the worst of my depression describing it as watching my life happen around me through someone else’s eyes. I was like I was just not engaged in my own life and was awful 😢
@morganqorishchi81812 күн бұрын
This song really got me through a lot in my teenage years, along with their song Papercut. When everyone around you is emotionally invalidating you constantly, you have to alternate between numbness and anger at being mistreated because if you ever allow the sheer hurt that you feel to hit you, it will be too much for you to deal with. Numb was written about Chester's relationship with his dad, and as someone with an emotionally abusive father, it hit hard. Sometimes just the realization you're not the only one going through something is enough to keep you going when things are hard. It's not an exaggeration to say Linkin Park saved my life.

I dont usually comment on videos, but this one has been a major turing point in my recovery. I always related to this song on a viseral way. Now i understand. The points you raised were enlightening to say the least im gonna bring up this to my therapist next session and ask her to watch your video as it feels like you were talking ro me . Not in a psychosis kind of way more like you understood the song, my. Situation and how the song applied to me and then gave me advise and things to think about further and discuss. Hope this makes sense I've dyslexia and tend not to write alot online . Anyways keep up the great work .im off on a rabbit hole of your videos. Thank you my friend. G

For me personally the SH was a bit of both, feeling numb from external factors while still being overwhelmed by undiagnosed ADHD and while it helped in the short run it cause anxiety and angst, seeing the "result" which just piled onto the problems. Was a long time ago but the "results" are still there

I love a lot of Linkin Park songs, but one that reasonanted the most with me is "Leave out all the rest". It feels like it speaks right out of my soul. I cry everytime I listen to it. P.S. If you don't mind reacting to a song that is not in English (on YT, there are always subtitles), then "Alien" by Han Jisung from Stray Kids is a deep song with a message worth analysing.

Please do keep on bringing your professional insights when appropriate and point to more detailed analysis on your other channel (link in show notes help as well). They are what makes your analysis so unique. In terms of the new stuff, can’t wait for your analysis as a therapist on the lyrics of “Good Things Go!”. In terms of Emily, just want to point out a few quick things. She was born into Scientology, with both parents high rank members. In a recent interview, she mentioned that she sees a therapist. Not something an active Scientologist would do. She is very close to photographer Brian Bowen Smith and his wife Shea (apparently calling her“Momma Shea” and told Shea the news of here joining LP first). Brian is the photographer of Leah Remini’s book on leaving Scientology. If Emily is still in Scientology, she would be prohibited from forming a relationship with Brian and Shea. She also performed for Talinda Bennington’s mental health charity as part of her own band Dead Sara.

I liked to think of SH as externalising and localising, of an internal and generalised discomfort. I'm autistic with alexithymia, so although that's what it felt like to me, my reasoning may not generalise.

Please react to more Likin Park. If you are not aware the lead singer Chester Bennington's deep depression he speaks of in most of the songs sadly caught up with him in 2017 In 2003 linkin park relased an album called Metora, a song that was recorded for this album however never made it was called Lost kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX-ukH2FoNqGjLs This song finally got released in 2023 for the 20th aniversary of the album and was the one of the first songs they released after chesters death. In 2024 Linkin park announced a new Female singer Emily Armstrong and have since done multiple live shows. It hurts to hear the pain of chester being portrayed by someone else as you realise that it got too much for him. One of the songs they do during this liveshow is an acoustic version of Lost. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6rPqWCAedSsp80 Please react to both of these songs in the same video as they contrast so massively,
