If anyone doesn’t have a Night Timber ….you need one!!! Especially someone looking for there 2nd or 3rd plane. This plane makes flying in the later light hours and even at night much easier, and even enjoyable. Even though I can fly in my yard it sometimes is after dark when I get home from work and this plane allows me to fly at any time. Even in pitch black darkness.

Ya know?? I really enjoy your videos. Especially on Drones, Planes and helicopters. Having been associated in the hobby for a NUMBER of years, I think where the hobby has gone is good. BUT!! One of the aspects I miss MOST is the building and crafting of a plane from sticks and covering and sometimes only plans to go with. I know people just wanna get in the air, but one of the most satisfying, rewarding parts of the hobby is the PRIDE you have on a well constructed machine. What a joy to have others admire all the work you put into that. The things you learn about the plane too are the whole aspect of WHY it fly's, the IMPORTANCE of weight and balance and the engineering behind making it happen. REALLY REALLY miss those days. MANY MANY MANY Manufacturers had kits around that just aren't there anymore. So sad. We taught ALOT of younger generation pilots what aviation entails. In any event, good luck on all your future endeavors.

We have done a handful of Adam's board builds from scratch and while they were very rewarding, they also just didnt hold up in comparison to just about any foam plane. I'd LOVE to actually BUILD a plane from scratch, but honestly for me it probably wont happen for a very long time. My build is my KZbin channel. Something that we have truly built from scratch that we are VERY proud of. From 0 subscribers and 0 views to where we are now, all thanks to very hard work, blood, sweat, and many tears. It has changed my life more than building a plane ever could and affected millions of people from all over the world. All with a positive attitude, never bringing anyone down. Our KZbin channel is our kit build.
@iphonecreativity744 жыл бұрын
@@TheRcSaylors Oh I absolutely agree with you. It takes a massive amount of time to build. Especially a Scale plane. At one time, we had about 100+ club members and used to sponsor fly-in's and contests and even invited to our local mall for display, Q&A twice a year. I even had the local Radio station come out for a 3 hr live broadcast once. BUT!! I couldn't agree with you more on the path of your KZbin channel. I know even with the planes and R/C stuff you feature, that it has a major positive impact on several people. VERY proud of you and Abby's efforts and the work put in for the success you so greatly deserve. I have long thot about doing a channel myself and as an avid hobbiest in the smart phone photo world, just the time alone to edit is crazy. So by no means am I condescending your work, time and money's spent to build it. Love this channel. I have told several people myself to check it out. You guys just keep on doin and I'll keep on watchin and promoting.

I have 4 timbers, the timber x, turbo timber 1.5 and both timber umx planes. The timber x was my second plane that ended up being my trainer plane when I started flying last fall and is the best plane I have. It is perfect every time and always a blast to fly. It was easier fir me to learn to fly on the timber x than with my carbon cub with all of its bells and whistles. Abby if you have not flown the timber x you need to, it is so easy to fly, you will enjoy it so much.

Hello Nate and Abby. Thanks for the great video. I have a timber X and I really want to like it. I cannot get the plane to fly level as the tail just seems to drag. I am running a smart 2200 4s and it has the carbon spur in the back. Any suggestions? Thanks
@chadpollman79704 жыл бұрын
First thing I would check is that the CG balances correctly. The manual should specify the location - usually a certain distance or range behind the leading edge of the wing. With the airplane in flight-ready condition, except with the battery disconnected (for safety), verify the airplane balances level or slightly nose-heavy (gently teeters just a bit forward rather than the nose falling sharply) at the recommended CG point. (If a range was given, try for a spot toward the front of that range.) A tail-heavy airplane will be very unstable and drag its tail. A severely nose-heavy airplane will fly like a brick and require a lot of airspeed to stay airborne. If the CG is fine, it might be worth checking the manual to see whether the AS3X system needs to be calibrated. My guess is that it auto-calibrates each time the airplane is powered on, in which case the only suggestion I’d have is to make sure you are placing the airplane on a level surface within a few seconds of powering up the airplane so that the gyros calibrate correctly. Might also be worth checking that the elevator surface is level with the rest of the horizontal stabilizer when you are not giving any control input (“hands-free”) and the airplane is level. If it is tilted upward significantly, make sure the elevator trim on the transmitter is centered/neutral (check its manual for instructions if you don’t know how to check this). If the tilt remains, you’ll need to apply downward trim or adjust the pushrod/clevis to correct the alignment (again, the manuals should walk you through the steps). BTW, if the pushrods were already connected to the control surfaces by the factory, you shouldn’t need to make any adjustments to the pushrods; unless the factory made a mistake (rare, but not impossible), the setup should be correct. Hope that helps.
@scottscooter32b744 жыл бұрын
@@chadpollman7970 Hello Chad. Thank you for the reply. I will try all of these options. I am thinking it might be the latter. I need to make sure that the elevator is level at zero trim. I saw that Pilot Ryan is flying the new Night Timber X with a smart, 2200 3S, 2200 4S, and a 3200 4S. I have all of these batteries, but I could see no way of shoe horning a 3200 in there, and the 3S is so light. I am probably going to go flying this Wed. Thank you again for the reply.

The interaction between both people is entertaining and you can feel the emotions they experience while flying the Timber X. I plan on buying the Timber X BNF some time in the near future as I am training with my Apprentice STS and also flying the Timber X on a Buddy Box and Trainer who is allowing me to use his Timber X. Took off and landed the X and am amazed how well it can be controlled by me in Safe Mode. Not attempting any 3D moves yet, of course, but enjoying how comfortable it flys. Short takeoffs are fun and landings are slow and sure. A wonderfully designed foam plane.

If you had to pick between this plane and the Flex Innovations Extra 300 G2, which would you pick? I am a new pilot with two planes under my belt, but only about tehn flights. I had a completely unexplained crash with my Carbon Cub S+ yesterday and I want a new plane. (So far, no one on the forums has been able to figure out what happened.) So I am confident enough to fly and land the plane, but that's about it. I like that the FI 300 has an on/off switch for the lights on the transmitter, and I prefer the looks of the FI 300. But if the FI 300 is a bigger challenge than the Night Timber then I'll go with the Night Timber. I can't afford too many crashes.

Hi, could you guys suggest any bi-planes that are beginner friendly?
@antonl18944 жыл бұрын
I would say a Eflite PT-17. Some of my clubembers have it and it flys pretty well.
@airhammer62034 жыл бұрын
Have you flown anything at all? Stay away from anything that says PITTS. A Waco, a PT-17, a Tiger Moth are good biplanes. Just make sure they have Stability Control(gyro) and a recovery mode(safe). AirHammer out!!

@@airhammer6203 No not flown anything yet. The Dynam Tiger Moth looks good and I have a soft spot for Moths as I have had a flight in one.
@airhammer62034 жыл бұрын
@@nbaker01 the Dynam Tiger Moth is the easiest to fly, a touch tricky to land(narrow landing gear), should be even easier with the Admiral RX600SP receiver as long as you have a Spectrum radio and set the receiver up correctly. Dynam aircraft can be a little frustrating to put together and sometimes have flaws. Once built, Dynam planes do fly great. I own a couple. On YTube do a search for the Dynam T.Moth, there are build videos and flights. Check out NitroPlanes video, it just floats up there! I love the Dynam Waco. I also have their Pitts M-12.

Ok, you crashed your Timber X. That worries me, since I was thinking of getting one as my 3rd plane and limited experience. Since someone with your flying experience crashed the plane, I was wondering why. Was it strictly pilot error or a characteristic of the plane. Is it hard to fly.
@ssv18004 жыл бұрын
Hi Nate and Abby, first of all, great channel love the all the information you provide! I purchased the Carbon Cub S+ as my first because of the video you made. Anyway I really like the Night Timber X, but first I need to get another transmitter. I see you are using the spectrum DX8, is that the one you recommend for this plane, or can I use the dx6? I only have the one that came with my Cub. So I would need to purchase another one. Thanks for all you guys do!

I had a Carbon Cub S+ which I flew about 6 times before it inexplicably crashed. Horizon Hobby thought it was a problem with the GPS so they agreed to send me a new plane, but this time around I picked the Night Timber X. I have also purchased a Conscendo glider based on your reviews of each plane. But now everyone is telling me I’ve purchased two planes I’ll surely crash. So some questions: 1. I have six Carbon Cub S+ flights under my belt. Do you think I’ll be able to fly this plane in SAFE without much worry? 2. .Someone told me this plane is easier to fly than the Conscendo. Is that true? 3. I don’t mind slowing the plane down with the front slats. Are there other downsides to the slats I should consider?
@TheRcSaylors4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe you can fly this in safe with your current experience. The Consciendo is definitely more beginner friendly than this, no doubt in my mind for many reasons. I believe you'll do fine with both planes though. No need to worry. Whoever is currently giving you advice doesnt sound like they are in a place to give said advice.. sorry!! You've got this!! 👍😃😎⚓

@@TheRcSaylors Tremendous. I'd rather fly the Conscendo anyway. My fear did. convince me to purchase a flitetest foam board plane so that I have something I can crash and get it back up and flying for less than $10.

Hi guys,follow you a lot,my question is I want to buy an X,maybe turbo,my problem is I have 3 Zop 4s 3500 new packs,if they will fit I'm going to purchase a plane,lol.Can you give me physical demensions of battery compartment to see if they will fit? Even if I have to trim slightly,lol.Thanks much,Rick
@antonl18944 жыл бұрын
Both the Turbo timber and the Timber X recommend 3-4s 2200-3200 mah lipo battery. I think you would be able to fit a 3500 in there but im not sure. I would suggest go to a local hobbystore or maybe a clubmember that have the timber that you can ask.

You keeping up with those boys in Slovakia for planes Nate? You will never catch them. I cannot wait to try out my night flyer. Its not a Timber but thats fine. I maidened my UMX Timber yesterday and as soon as I took safe off, it crashed. Something went wrong with it . I hate these UMX Planes. I think I am done buying them now. This is the 3rd one I got that ended up scrap. Wht on earth do they make a small plane that cannot even fly right? I am fine with XK small planes. Those fly perfectly. Horizon needs to learn from XK.
@TheRcSaylors4 жыл бұрын
Lol no, I've never viewed this hobby as a competition in any way, except for when Abby and I challenge each other for some good fun. I did respond to your previous comment regarding UMX planes btw!

Very nice plane don't mind giro's but hate safe. Would rather a buddy box. Safe programs novice pilots into so many bad habits to start (i'm a club instructor). If they stay on it to long they end up thrashing about on the sticks in normal (proper) mode .Although does it allows novices to fly ish but it will never let them perform a victory roll but at least it safe. Plane looks cool in night livery thought

I have to disagree! I've witnessed hundreds, if not thousands of people get into the hobby that wouldn't have otherwise because of SAFE technology. We tend to encourage people to get in to flying over discouraging them. I love seeing the hobby Grow! Edit: There are a LOT of people that don't live near a flight instructor like yourself but still want to enjoy the hobby. I help those people daily, and have for years now. I too help people learn to fly in person, but with COVID being a "thing" now I'm going to continue encouraging people to get into the hobby the best way possible. Thanks for what you do for the hobby, but please don't discourage people from flying simply because they don't do it "your way".
@markpatterson49174 жыл бұрын
Think we have a difference of opinion, because of geography I'm from England where access to local clubs are plentiful most people are within a 30 mile radius of a club so its easier to get that tuition. The biggest reason I said I hate SAFE is I like being in control. I learnt to fly back in the 1980's as teenager and obviously we didn't have all the gizmos we have now. I've always encouraged people to come into the hobby. I can easily save people a 100 pounds (SAFE is expensive) recommending the right plane with tuition. (Helps get the youngsters into it) You've been lucky with Covid to keeping flying. We had horrible weather from January till lock down in March. Then we had lots of beautiful calm days pining out of the window while working from home. Just got out Yesterday for my first fly in over 5 months boy it was good
@jdouglasj20004 жыл бұрын
@@TheRcSaylors I don't know about SAFE. I've flown about 6 flights on my first plane, the Carbon Cub S+. I used SAFE on my first flight to safely land the plane, but on subsequent I used SAFE to set up the approach and then I landed it myself. I liked the holding pattern and safe return features on those first flights. A couple weeks ago, I had less than two minutes of fight on a newly charged battery and out of the blue it went into a steep descent with SAFE on and flew into a tree. I gave it full up elevator with full throttle, but to no avail. The plane came down from the tree a couple days later. I did the necessary repairs and flew it again yesterday. I did the CRAP check. My controls were all operating normally and returned to neutral position. A friend hand launched the plane at full power and immediately after launch it just wanted to dive. I gave it full elevator and full throttle, and I was able to get it climbing, but it was doing all it could to dive. I inched off the elevator just a bit to bring it back down, but dove straight down at about a 70-degree angle from 100' or so. Did SAFE cause that? I really don't know, but in my traipsing around the RC forums I am bumping into more and more people who have similar stories with SAFE. I just don't trust it now.

New sub here, excellent video, my mouth is watering, I ordered one of these, it will be here Monday! My first airplane, coming from drones and cars. I definitely intend on installing the slats, Im very excited about the low speed capabilities of this airplane. Im torn on starting with 3S or 4S, I have both, but Im concerned about getting in over my head with the 4S. I havent been this excited about something in a loooooonnnnnnggggg time. Maybe back to my first car, an Associated RC12E, I raced at a place called Rattys Raceway in N.Attleboro MA. Its long gone now, Im talking late seventies! Thanks guys, great channel, great review!

So how did you do with this plane now since its been a month? Hope this wasn't too much 3D of a plane for being your 1st. I just picked mine up this past weekend and had a hand full on the maiden and couldn't figure why it seemed so tail heavy with 4s battery up to front and only the carbon tail spar in rear and not the steel one. Trim issues I'm guessing. 7th plane I own and it had me nervous. Just curious how you did with it being your 1st plane.
