I fly in safe and do not mind my other two piolets bagging on me, but they have crashed many more than I have, so fly as ya will. Nice plane. Buy the way there is a plane in a tree, not buy me, When I say, not a good idea, they call me a chicken, that is all my planes are not in a tree, and has no damage to most of them.

I'm always worried about belly landings in the grass at my field. Have you experienced many control surface servo connection issues from your belly landings? Obviously, we must do them at as low a speed as possible. Great meeting you at RC Fest and thanks again for the t-shirt.

Could you received something similar to this that can be flown 1 handed with minimal chance of crashing that is not a DJI Drone (I already own one of those)?

For scale fliers, my late friend Col. Charlie Bock was one of the original test pilots for the A-12/SR-71. He said at cruise, a full 180° took 70+ miles at a very low bank angle. No rolls, no loops, no aerobatics. So if you fly this at a "fun scale" event, flying on "safe" should win you points even if a little boring.

Those inlet cones, by the way, were movable on real SR=71s. They moved backward into the engine as the plane went faster. Their purpose was to reposition the shock wave caused by the incoming air at supersonic speeds.

The cones on the engine intakes of the real SR-71 helped regulate airflow into the engines. The dynamics of the speed and altitude of the real plane's flight envelope required many innovations not seen on most other jet aircraft. I was on a TDY to Kadena AFB on the island of Okinawa many years ago, and was told that you could tell when an SR-71 was going to take off, because a KC-135 tanker would take off around fifteen minutes or so before it. The SR-71 would take off, and immediately head to rendezvous with the tanker to top off the fuel before beginning the actual mission. One other piece of trivia about the Blackbird (known by those who flew it and worked on it as the Habu), was that if they kicked in all the stages of afterburner too close to the ground, it would shatter windows in buildings for miles around. Amazing bird, and I was lucky enough to see them fly on several occasions.

Did someone ask about the cones in the intakes? A little book entitled Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, by Paul F. Crickmore. See the photo and the caption on page 27: “The inlet spike regulated the amount of air entering the inlet throughout the SR-71’s vast performance envelope by progressively moving rearwards as the aircraft’s speed increased.” Pneumatic Forces involved the shock wave formed at supersonic speeds. See page 26, “Air Inlet Control System.” The second paragraph gets into some aspects of what they had to deal with, but to keep this brief I will only quote the following: “At 31,000ft, the inlet spikes unlocked and, at Mach 1.6, began moving rearward, achieving their fully aft position at Mach 3.2 - design cruise speed.”

Couldn't agree with you more. When I first discovered that channel I thought it was good, but then I kept watching and found this guy to be the most egotistical and obnoxious person who will do anything to try to get attention. His put-downs of fellow Rc'rs is disgusting IMO. His buddies channel called Tailheavyproductions is no better. Incredibly arrogant people who show up and act like they are the ultimate authorities on all things RC, attacking and insulting whole groups of RC'rs and established long-time RC companies with fine reputations. They are not good for the hobby, with 2 bros RC (where you never see the other bro) urging people to purchase planes they claim are"easy to fly" and then encouraging them to go for tail-heavy CG, which of course is very likely to lead to a crash even for an experienced RC'r.

Back in the mid 80's while at an AMA event, I got to see a hand built SR-71 that was 9 feet long and had gas turbine engines complete with working after burners. It also had a piggy back drone plane that was controlled by a 2nd pilot and launched while the larger plane was in flight. The drone only had skids for landing gear so, it had to land in the grass.

An ad for this plane randomly popped up on instagram. I had no idea something like this was a thing and definitely not for that price I'd think it would be much more expensive for some reason. It looks pretty realistic. Really cool, my younger self would go crazy over this thing and to be honest even now I still do 😂 this is so cool to watch man. The thing is I'd crash this thing in probably like 2.7 seconds after takeoff. 🤣

You’d be surprised how easy they are to fly. They have flight stabilization nowadays and won’t let the plane go upside down or anything until you turn that off with a switch! Maybe don’t make this plane be your first, but you could build up to something like this pretty quickly! 👍💯😎⚓️

My father was a mechanic on the SR-71 Blackbird back in the day. This would be my dream plane but I’m afraid to order from Horizon, because my last order took two weeks to place, it’s been almost two weeks since I ordered it and it hasn’t even shipped yet. And supposedly they have it in stock.🙄 I know they are going through some growing pains, but you have to make sure that certain things are in place when doing an overhaul like that. Like your customers can place and receive their orders.

You can snap role a plane with out rudder. The way to do it is to stall the plane and crank in some aileron. This has to be a "high speed" stall. Meaning that, as soon as the nose returns to horizontal - normal flight is resumed. When flying full scale it is much easier to accomplish this because we have airspeed indicators, visual acuity and can feel the plane. Long story short, try flying at a speed slower than cruse, then pull full up elevator and quickly dump the aileron in the direction you want to role. Neutralizing your controls brings things back to manageable. If you play around with different speeds and the plane is still not able, try adding more elevator authority. Another way to snap role is to stall one wing and not the other - this is the rudder induced role. First start by getting one wing tip slightly down, hold the plane, with power on, pointing level using rudder, wait for that moment just before the stall and add full opposite rudder. Its like doing a spin but approaching it in a crab. roles

Amazing model aircraft! On the real plane the air intake cones move forward and back. One position for regular operation and the other for ram jet/hypersonic flight. A slight difference between the model and the real thing is the intake cones angle inward slightly. Of course on the model most of the air doesn't come through the cones, it comes in through the vent holes much further back on the engine pods.

The real SR71 actually flies, nose up. So that's perfectly normal, and cool.

I find that a lot of people want to see acrobatics but they don't realize that not all planes are meant to be acrobatic. Just because it can loop and roll doesn't mean it'll be good at it. That SR-71 does not look acrobatic at all. I'd definitely baby that one.

The real sr71 isn't meant for aerobatics, why would the scale model be expected to be any different.

Awesome flying, I added three reflective orange boxes on the bottom for orientation. Waiting for the weather to break for our maiden. And yes I fly in SAFE when needed as well. 😎👍

Paint it like the A-12 to help with the orientation. Silver/Titanium body & black nose, intake cones, and wing/body leading edge.

Oh man if they scaled this up and modified the design some we could have a cobra night raven. The thought of being able to put in a strato viper figure gives me goosebumps.

There is an artifact that crossed the screen from Right to Left at 5:02. That hing whatever it is, is flying at least at twice the speed of the RC airplane!
