26:39 This might get lost in the comments, but I want to add to the discussion that characters with multiple pupils in one eye are common in Irish mythology. Sometimes it's a sign of "true sight", but sometimes it's a sign of evil. One character in particular is Ingcél Cáech, an evil king from Alba (Britain), in the "Destruction of Da Derga's Hostel," who is sometimes said to have seven pupils in each eye, and sometimes to have three pupils in each eye. The hero Cu Chulainn is also sometimes said to have three pupils in each eye. However, the strongest character I can connect to this brief image of a cyclops is the leader of the Formorians, Balor. He was said to have a single eye which wreaked destruction whenever he opened it. According to the wiki, he is sometimes interpreted as a personification of the scorching sun (which would fit with that swirling, firey appearance in the trailer here). Also good to note, is that Balor kills King Nuada. Nuada was compared to the "Valkyrie" when the first Elden Ring teaser came out, because he is a character who lost his arm, had it replaced with a silver one, and then replaced again with an entirely new, flesh and bone arm. Given the arm imagery and focus that we've seen thus far, I think the connection would be damn cool if I'm at all right.

Graces act as checkpoints. In other words, it's a "SAVING GRACE." I love puns. You seem a little curious about the trend of many arms in this game, so I want to point out that it's very similar to the trend of many eyes in Bloodborne. Foolish adversaries tend to interpret some prophecies or proclamations too literally, and so alter themselves to suit their supposed needs. In Bloodborne enemies have so many eyes because they interpret eyes as a literal means of attaining insight, where as the enemies of Elden Ring horde arms so they have more fingers to wear more rings.
@highbrednxtus3 жыл бұрын
I wonder what the guy with all the ears represents. Like Vaati joked, is it to "hear" what he's reading, maybe looking for the "truth"? I imagine everyone in this game will have some level of insanity to them, as previous Souls games. Maybe he's trying to hear of the voice of the tree or the Elden Ring. It's obviously the focus of their society in this land and I assume religions, so it could be some sort of cult that worships the Ring as an actual Diety. Can't wait to find out what the hell is going on

I see this as a common interpretation to bloodborne, but I think there was a deeper meaning. When species evolve, they quite literally "grow eyes on the inside," for example the pineal gland. Scientists have found that the more sophisticated and evolved an animal is, the more closely the pineal gland resembles an "eyeball" on the inside of their brains. It's actually quite creepy if you look at autopsies. Willem was actually closer to the truth than most realize.

It's interesting that judging from the potboy/"Checkpoint" screenshot we'd be finally getting a kind of dynamic around the bonfire-like areas. Normally in Fromsoft games, the checkpoints remain isolated. From a gameplay pov it's fair, you don't want to be attacked while resting. But in a world that's dying, it makes sense that any being that has life left will try to surround themselves in that aura of remaining life.

I've not seen anyone mention that when fighting the many armed enemy in the dungeon at 12:02 the player does a unique attack from a blocking stance where he does a spin that causes a golden particle effect to appear over the enemies head. Could this be a deflection system like in Sekiro? Where if you block at just the right time, you can do a follow-up attack for big damage. Also, the sword at 24:00 looks near identical to the Bramble knight sword, which didn't have the blue when he was fighting you. I've a feeling that those blue runes appear when you infuse or add a weapon art to it.

I noticed a few minor things. When the dragon slams down the lighting at the MC and you see it clearly from the front, between the horns on it's head is a row of prongs that look like some sort of crown. Dragon Monarch, perhaps? In regard to the 6 fingered demigod when it touches the dragon head, it reminded me of when Ludwig rejoins with his one true mentor, his guiding moonlight, so my guess is that it is phase 2 of the boss. His deformed, multi-limbed look seems highly influenced, design-wise, by Ludwig in BB. Lasly, a theory: The great tree is slowly dying in tandem with it's golden grace. Every being in the elden ring is granted life due to the grace - without it, they slowly rot away, still desperately clinging to the traces of the grace they once held proudly in abundance. One demigod, obsessed with extending his life, has tried to use the bodies of others to merge with and fight the decay in a demented effort to continue their immortality. Perhaps, this could be why the Demigod in the trailer merges with a Dragon Head? Of course, for the extra power, but maybe because a Dragon's natural longevity is so much greater, that it provided a magnificent boost to the vitality of the Demigod? You can clearly see that when the Demigod uses the dragon head to spray flame above him that he is smiling, almost in bliss like he had just lessened a great burden, perhaps?

There's something that has been bothering me ever since the release of DS3. A lot of people blame the game's aesthetics for being too bland, too grey, when that was the point of the game, a setting filled with ash. Really it's a lose/lose situation for the blamer, should you blame the aesthetics despite the fact it's perfectly designed for the game, or should you blame the setting itself when it feels like a natural end to the series? What should your complain be directed against? I don't know I feel like in that regard DS3 was set up for inevitable disappointment in the eyes of some people.

@@StevelyBruckShut that's the thing with fiction, the authors can probably come up with a plausible explanation, but because there are none for now, and his eye looks normal, I think it's safe to assume that he should have poor eye sight, and maybe he does, or not, cuz people seem inclined to believe that more pupils = better, like the guy above me xD

@@tonyolo4591 you're right but that depth perception happens because there are two different retinas that have two different ocular nerves that give two *clear* images at a difference of a small angle (if you have strabismus for example, you will get diplopia, the brain won't magically combine any images it gets), but in this case, if he has one retina receiving all the beams of light at different directions, the image coming out of the ocular nerve to the brain won't be coherent, the brain needs a coherent image for proper interpretation to occur, and as I said, it happens in real life with the example i just stated.

I wonder that the tendrils under the concentric ring sigil aren't roots--fitting in with the tree somehow. Then again, I wouldn't put it past Miyazaki to make a Lovecraft reference with one area. BUT interestingly, he could do both. I created a comic two years ago that drew inspiration from Bloodborne (The Tainted Ones) and the Lovecraftian creatures had tree and root featues in their designs. So from experience, it *is* possible that the sigil could indicate roots (as could the statues) and those roots could have tentacle qualities to them. I would love to see that. Also I'd love it if you could turn into a wolf. That was my first thought when I saw that in the trailer. Werewolves in a Souls game? I'm all for it.

Theory on arm guy: He's the tutorial boss. The reason why the character drawing their sword is animated is because that's how the character always starts out. The player is then killed, stitched back together by arm guy or his servants, which is where the character creator comes in. He is then fought later in the game with the dragon head attached.
