There are Plans and Then There's What Happens │Homeschool Convention Day 1 ║ Large Family Vlog

Today we're going to Casper for the first day of the Wyoming homeschool convention. We have a 160 mile drive followed by four hours worth of sessions at the convention. We enjoyed the beautiful drive looking through our bug-splattered, dog nose-smudged windows, but once we got there lots of little things went wrong. Our Burger King order was all wrong, but we didn't have time to go back and change it. When we went to check into our hotel we discovered we'd been duped into prepaying for rooms at a hotel we didn't want, plus the pool wasn't working. We decided to make the most of it and go out to dinner and then to a trampoline park. The restaurant we wanted to go to had been permanently closed, but we found another buffet that everyone enjoyed (and we got to see some homeschool friends there), then went to a fun park and, finally, to the trampoline park which everyone thought was AMAZING!

I love this video of Andrea! So many things went "wrong" or had to be changed but she is so calm and cool about it all! Just the hotel with no pool for the kids would have sent me into a meltdown. Lol

I am so impressed at how well you and Andrea (and the kids) handled the disappointment of things not going to plan, and still making the most of things! Such peaceful, positive attitudes! I vaguely remember watching the second part of this when it came out a couple of years ago but for some reason don't think I watched this part.

I know that you said they wouldn't give your money back but I would be calling corporate of Hotels.com or Super 8 and they would be giving our money back! lol My kids would have been so bummed!!

It was a wonderful day hanging out with you guys. In spite of a number of lemons that you had tossed at you, you managed to make lemonade. I laughed so many times at the kids on the trampolines. I bet they slept good that night. Bless you all.

I love Casper. If you're interested, there's a small dinosaur museum, just off the interstate, heading towards Nebraska. The town is Glenbrook or Glenrock, or something like that. When we did our road trip, our then Mr16 saw the sign for it on the interstate and was thrilled we stopped there.

When your husband was telling Thomas he can go on KZbin while at the Park. LOL That is our oldest 100%! He dislikes the playground & would rather watch KZbin too. LOL. The trampoline place look so fun! We have one nearby. We were gonna go in October thsn my son broke his ankle. Still need to go.

Ah! Who misses swimming when you have "Trampoline World" to yourselves! In my homeschooling days I loved the state convention. I must admit it was a little more crowded here in New York State. ;)

Wow...now that was a packed full day. I am so sorry you were hoodwinked on the hotel, maybe you should send a letter to the company that actually did the booking. It is possible they don't know about this Super 8 pulling a fast one with their advertising. Even if you don't get some refund, at least they will be made aware of the situation and not do bookings for them anymore. Was Dad sore the next morning...he was making my arms and shoulders hurt. haha. Y'all have a Blessed day,

I think you would have good grounds to get your money back from the third-party company that booked you...that's terrible. And I wish your Solomon and my Henry could get together, they are like two peas in a pod from what I see in your videos. All your kids are so sweet!

You are braver than me taking the children with you for 10 hours. I like looking at the land as its so different here, here it's rolling hills and trees and very green with winding roads. Of course I don't travel as much as you do as everything is a lot nearer being a smaller country. You have so much sky, I like that. Good vidio.

I'm the secretary for our county fair. Our week is July 25-29 this year. Unfortunately, exhibits number are dwindling each year. So sad. We got plenty of entries in photography and hardly any in the other classes. I always hold out hope! Oh, Solomon! He certainly is full of personality! Claudia experiencing her baby brain freeze was so funny but it felt wrong laughing. lol The foam pits look quite fun- for the kiddos. My old self would probably break something even landing on foam. Glad the kids didn't die from boredom. lol I'm with them. Seems like knowing there will be lots of kids, they would have fun activities for all the ages including the wee ones. Have they always not provided a nursery or toddler area? I haven't had a lot of experience with booking hotels/motels online but have done it a few times. We've been very lucky other than one time which was a matter of the bathroom not being clean (including a used bath towel in the corner under the sink!) and the people on the upper level STOMPING around for an hour straight. Even a call from the front desk did not stop it so finally we were able to switch rooms. I left a not so nice rating on both their website and hotels.com.

We had a similar experience with Super 8 motel in Sioux Falls, SD. Their website advertised that they a swimming pool. So we check in, ask where the pool is and guess what? No pool. Needless to say we were upset. Finally after arguing with the front desk staff we got out money back. Unfortunately, they're was a large concert that weekend and all area motels were booked so we had to go back to Super 8 and stay there anyway. On top of that it was not a very nice motel. Since then we refuse to do business with Super 8. Andrea. I think you should pursue this. After all you were promised a product that the company didn't provide (a pool) and it most likely was a bait and switch.

I think Tom's homeschool shirt is hilarious! I can see why he enjoys wearing it. It horrible that that hotel has deceptive information in their third party booking site. Have you posted a review on the site or filed a compliant? If not,please consider doing so that others may be warned. Off to watch day 2 of your convention experience.

I love how your family is able to make the best of a bad situation. My dad would have been cursing up a storm. That is crazy that they would make accommodations for older children, but not the littles. Asher has a pretty positive attitude... "it's going to be like solitary confinement." ROFL! Poor Solly. Claudia and Sophia seemed to be ok, but it made me sad when he asked to go with the big boys. Everything is non-refundable. Someone should really give you a refund. ☹️. I LOVE Saltines about as much as Solomon... But Claudia was so cute eating the ice cream. And I guess if you think about it, if the hotel hadn't been messed up, then you wouldn't have made it to the trampoline place. I loved the footage of everyone jumping. And I bet everyone didn't care where they were sleeping after all that jumping.

I'm trying to remember off the top of my head when he was in the video. He was in the classroom with all the kids in one scene. He was eating with Asher, Judah and Justus at Pizza Ranch. He talked with Tom as we were leaving and was hanging out with us at the park. He was also sitting on the ground playing with Claudia at the park. There was a little of him at the trampoline park, but I had a camera malfunction there so I lost a lot of the footage I took.

what a bummer with all the disappointments! you guys handled them so well. my girls, between ages 10 and 14 were asking me "mommy, what would we do if that happened?!!" they were working through in their mind how to handle the disappointments. so thank you for sharing your experiences so others can learn from them! also, I am wondering if you ended up getting those pop-tarts that were constantly on saul's mind?

I would be filling a complaint with both companies and asking for a refund or partial refund for the inconvenience and the price of having to organise another activity for your children.
