People think that having more money would alleviate all their problems, but the hard truth is if you mismanage your money now, you’re going to mismanage your money when you get more money. If you live above your means now and don’t learn to live below your means, when the money comes you’ll just continue to live above your means, and you’ll always be thinking, “if I just had more money…”.

Getting a 2.9% APR loan is better than paying cash. If you can't get a better return than 2.9% on your money, you're just bad with money.

Where are you getting a 2.9 APR for a car loan? You aren't. Anyway, how is debt better than cash?

@agirlisnoone5953 from a dealership that is doing a deal. Nissan is doing one for 2.99 on Frontiers, Toyota is doing 0% on Tundras. Leave the car buying to your husband, sweetheart.

Better yet, use a credit card that gives you some sort of points and pay it off right away.

I don’t know of any credit cards that won’t treat it as a “cash advance” these days. 3% transaction fee. You lose. American Express would be happy to not charge you a cash transaction fee. Good luck finding a car seller who will accept Amex.

@@hainesjwGood to know. So, figure out how much your credit card will allow, earn the points, and pay the rest in cash.

“There are plenty of affordable cars” girl have you checked minimum wage recently?? Or taxes??

Minimum isn't meant to live on. Get some skills, get out there and get a better job. Unless You're 16 and still working on that

@@agirlisnoone5953except it is. Minimum wage was designed to be the bare minimum requirement needed to sustain an individual housing and bills wise COMFORTABLY. That's the entire point. And most minimum wage employees are those that are very much necessary in everyday life. By saying it's not designed to live the bare minimum requirements for living, you are saying every grocery clerk, every cashier, every sandwich maker and coffee maker doesn't deserve the bare minimum to survive, which is honestly disgusting to think that someone working full time with little to no bonus benefits deserve a basic living

Saved up for almost 10 years to get a few-year old car instead of 10-12 year old beaters (which we’ve been doing for 30 years). Cash purchase…done!

If the car will be pretty good for 2 years, then I could accept having two years of low-interest financing. Above 8% is not low-interest. I buy with cash but I won’t knock good financing.

You don’t need to pay today for something you’ll use more than a year from now. But there’s a big difference between being poor at 25 years old vs poor at 45+ (follow her advice).

For some people starting out in life, there's not always much of an option. But it should be cheap. Then save for your next car and never do it again, ever! As long as you have debt, you're not truly free, and you will never get ahead.
