My brother and I currently own 3 Del Sol’s and we love them. We’ve learned a ton about them, and I’m so excited to see what you’ll do with yours. Mine was $500 with different problems than yours, but we’re kinda in the same boat. Our first Del sol ended up getting destroyed when an 18 wheeler came across the highway and hit my brother. He’s fine now, and the car makes a great parts car for our other cars. But for a few suggestions, swap the shifter for a short shifter when you do the shift bushings. They’re around $6 online and they’re great. You’ll have to pull the shifter anyway, so you may as well replace it if the previous owner didn’t already. Make sure to do valve stem seals when you do the head gasket because every Sol burns oil until you do this. You’ll figure that out if you replace the head gasket and it still blows some smoke. Better to do it at the same time. Since you have the 1.5 liter, there isn’t much to do for power, so keep it mostly stock. Anything you do will just lower its great fuel economy. Paint the manifold heat shield and valve cover and it makes a world of difference. Clean all the grounds in the engine bay as well. The most important one is behind the engine to the left on a water neck I believe. Speaking of which. Silicone radiator hoses are a great upgrade for longevity and appearance for around $28. Something else you’ll encounter is the roof leak. If you can make a video on how to fix that, you’ll be an idol to the Del Sol community. Have fun with your Sol man, and keep up the good work!

Hopefully the frame shop doesn't screw me too hard lol. But being all stock and rebuilt with the exception of a rear swaybar and koni yellows it's gonna be well worth it. I have a love for the little Honda and Toyota sports cars. This looks like a fun little project car and definitely a solid daily driver for someone who needs a fun point A to point B driver that doesn't need too much upkeep to keep things running. Thanks for the video Chris. I've got another generation of Grandkids learning the basics for car maintenance now, and they want a little project car for their first. (My dad made us buy our own cars and work on them before we could get a license.) At the time I thought he was being too hard on us but those first few years of being an adult mean that you don't have a whole lot of money but you tend to have plenty of time. I've gotten myself out of more than one jam and even though I definitely made mistakes, I learned to fix them, and once you've done something once the process becomes more intuitive as you go along. To anyone reading this, make mistakes, if you have to incredible hulk it, penetrating fluid and a drink (hopefully non alcoholic) are you best friends. Have patience and know that when you finally have those bolts off and a 10mm in the engine bay, your car will still keep chugging along. I bought one car that I couldn't find the source of the jingling even after I checked the suspension and engine. I crawled under the car again, thinking I might have to get it to a specialist mechanic when I took a test drive around the block and found a 10mm socket on the driveway. No more jingling and that car ended up being a capable little 4x4 for where we lived in the boonies.

But he had most the parts it needed. But for 300 got the thing and towed it home. I have to say thank you, Chris. I saw this and went out and bought a $350 honda on craigslist but that turned out to be stolen, so when I got out of jail (2 months later) I went and bought a 375$ Mazda. But then the transmission literally exploded, so I had to pay $180 for it to be towed of of the garage. SO I went and snagged a sweet cheverlet silverado for $450 on craigslist and as soon as I fixed the steering the fuel tank started leaking, which pointed out flashlights at the fuel line which was cracked all to hell... cost us only $50 to tow that one. So now - a year later - I'm down over a thousand bucks. Nice.

I remember watching this video when it was new. Shortly after, my dad brought home a beater '99 civic sedan. I learned a lot with that car, how to jump start a car, how to clean mold, how to replace a muffler, how to drive manual. He eventually gave up on working on it and sold it for $500 to a junkyard about 2 years ago. I'm getting my permit in a week or so and god I wish he kept it. Now I'm not sure if I can even afford anything manual. A Neon would be nice, but thag civic was something else.

Chrisfix, most of us viewers are real car enthusiasts and like to see cars being fixed up and loved. It would be nice to upload all repairs like DIYs so that a hobby mechanic like me can learn stuff that normally a wouldn't consider doing. After all, a car is only once in its life original and it would be great if for a change an unloved Honda like this would be restored to his former glory and doesn't end up like an ricer, as an beat up derby or as an piece of junkyard steal. Hopefully you will gif it your special TLC and make it as original as possible. Only you can do videos like: "how to re-spray a car yourself" the right way..😉

Chrisfix please don’t sell that car. You never know if that could land in the hands of a ricer. I think that you should make individual videos for the stuff that needs fixing on the car. Keep up the great videos and I’ll make sure to watch your next one!

Do your individual repair videos. Get the car back to being a very nice example of a Del Sol. After that, you have options. Option #1- Give it back to the poor kid who lost his car for $300 Option #2- Stick a B18c or K20 in the engine bay for a very fun car Option #3- Make it nice again, then flip it wheeler dealer style, but to be honest, I'd like to see the original owner get a chance to buy it back for a decent price.

That's what I'm saying. This poor kid probably just lost almost all his freedom and mobility for a couple hundred bucks. It's tough being young with limited funds and no tools or experience. If you sign up for a free Experian credit check account it will let you enter VINs of cars you "own". It will give you owner history and show you all the possible brands and major accidents for free. You can add and remove all you want. Its important for ball park value. It will give you a score range for that specific car/model. Appreciate your videos Chris. Its good to see people learning to wrench.
