While I love indulging in a bit of luxury every now and then, for everyday items, I'm all for keeping it budget friendly. I'm here to tell you which popular products I believe aren't worth their higher price tags, including one sneaky product trap you'll definitely want to avoid.

Yes. Parents waste so money on name brand clothes that kids or teens are just going to out grow! Little ones wearing North Face or under armour clothes... ridiculous! 🙄 My parents didn't get me nice clothes or shoes until I was in high-school. They were very frugal.

My parents didn't get any brand name stuff for us at my very brand oriented elementary school. I survived. I also got gifted (from friends) a pencil bag and a book bag from the "it" brands for my birthday that staved off some of the worst of the ridicule from horrid children. Of a parent can afford it, a single bougie item for a kid might be a nice splurge, while still teaching kids that this is unnecessary and being budget-concious and frugal is better.

Going to the movies imo is a waste of money. I wait until its on a streaming account to watch and i can make my own popcorn and bring my own candy and i dont have to deal with other people and can watch it in my jammies on my couch

For me, it's the opposite. I'm not going to watch a movie (hardly any TV) unless I'm actually at the movies. It's time spent with a loved one. I don't really snack so I don't have to worry about buying food. The show is walking distance from my house so there's no transportation costs involved. Plus, it's only a few times a year, at most.

For family owned theaters the concessions are the only way they make money. The movie studios get most of the ticket sales. Support your local family owned theaters.

The compromise at the movies is going to the dollar store to get candy and drinks. Then if we want popcorn or a hotdog, we'll buy it at the theater

My Dyson Animal is 14 yrs old, still works better than any other vacuum I’ve ever had. I will buy another one when it finally dies. Oh, and they’re cheaper now than when I first bought it.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you about the Dyson. My wife and I ran an in-home dog sitting business for over seven years, having thousands of dogs come through the house. The Dyson Torque 11 was the only vacuum that could reliably pick up all that hair and dirt from outside. Moreover, it has never failed!

a red devil or similiar is not the same as a dyson or shark--I've bought cheap and pricey (on sale) and like some generic foods, some cheap vacuums are not good value long term. Now--I did find a used shark $25 at a Habitat Restore that has been great!

Omg the DYSON! I had the cordless Dyson for a few years before it finally gave up. I switched to a cheap corded shark vacuum and (surprise) it works so much better. Of course, maybe the Dyson ball corded is better, but with 3 kids and 2 dogs I’m fine with spending a little bit on a cheap shark every couple years

No Dyson vacuums are 100% worth it. My first one lasted 10 years before I sold it (for $100) to upgrade to a cordless one which I’ve had for 3 years now. All previous vacuums lasted a year before they stopped working.

My daughter and i rarely go to the movie theater, but when we do go, im fine with buying her snacks there. We just went on Sunday and the tickets were $5 each and I bought her a kid combo which was a small popcorn, bag of gummy candy, and small drink for $6 plus a large icee for my sister and my daughter to share for $7.

The absolute biggest waste of money is Starbucks… or should I say overpriced coffee flavored dessert. Learn to like real coffee and get a cup for $2 or better yet buy some good beans and brew at home for a fraction of that.

Buying movie theater food is a move for dating, not for marriage. And if you date a homebody, it's not even relevant. I did invest in collectibles when I worked fast food, but only because I worked opening & closing and got a free meal as a perk - so I ordered the meals with the toys, with an investment of pure sweat equity. Some of them are now valued at $100+ and climbing.

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Evelyn Infurna. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, I was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can.
