wow. Thank you for making this video brother. I'm 23 and recently dropped out of university. I'm so confused as to what I want to do in life... Become a farmer? It is wonderful to hear about someone (not a friar or nun) who is becoming a part of the Franciscan family and remaining a member of the laity (single or married people in the world). God bless you on this journey of faith, living out your baptism in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. I wonder how many fraternities associated with the Order of Friars Minor exist around the USA. (I know of Roman Catholic and Anglican/Episcopal fraternities around the NYC metropolitan area.)

If you are curious about our region you can find a bit of info by going here: www.queenofpeaceregion.org/ Here in Omaha, NE we have 2 fraternities of lay Franciscans and our fraternity has about 25 members including 3 candidates, of which I am one. We also have a Poor Clare convent in town. My fraternity is a wonderful group of people on fire with the spirits of Francis and Clare. Praise be to God! Thanks for asking - I never tire of sharing the joy of fraternity.

How about content teaching about devotions? The brown Scapular, Rosary, 3 Hail Mary's daily, Novena's. How about featuring lil 5 min videos on a Saint of the day? Just some thoughts to get others to maybe form devotion who are away from the church or aren't even Catholic. Last idea show us how a bible passage related to an experience you had and how it went or how you changed the outcome of the moment when you reflected on the passage. God bless you for your service to God.

I think it's a "genre thing." There are videos on other KZbin Channels focusing strictly on the various Devotions -- there's Pray More Novenas, Catholic Devotions, Family Theater Productions, Jack Sorianos, and many many more. Catholic Connect or Catholic Online features a Saint of the Day series that they've been posting for years.

For me now I can say by not showing the things you cannot show, yet with the explanation and great choice of background music was the best way of showing me what cannot be shown. Brother Casey, not exactly related to the topic of the video exactly but how did you stage that mirror shot? It looked cool. Now on to the topic of the video, I know it's not all what you show us because I've written you. Your response was amazing and humble and one of the most spiritual conversations I've had since my faith started wavering. That's why I keep watching, even as a non-Catholic, because there's something deep and different about how you live your life. I can just feel it. You have a connection to God I envy. Thank you for what you do show us and for doing all those things you can't show us.

I was back reading your blog before you made KZbin videos. The one thing that you carry with you in all of your platforms is words. Even sans pictures or limited pictures (Ex: The Instagram bicycle story, Instant Classic) you paint pictures. I could see you and your brethren in all the activities you could not film. As long as you spend time stringing words together whether talking to someone or writing, you are going to be fine.

"Joy, which was the small publicity of the pagan, is the gigantic secret of the Christian. And as I close this chaotic volume I open again the strange small book from which all Christianity came; and I am again haunted by a kind of confirmation. The tremendous figure which fills the Gospels towers in this respect, as in every other, above all the thinkers who ever thought themselves tall. His pathos was natural, almost casual. The Stoics, ancient and modern, were proud of concealing their tears. He never concealed His tears; He showed them plainly on His open face at any daily sight, such as the far sight of His native city. Yet He concealed something. Solemn supermen and imperial diplomatists are proud of restraining their anger. He never restrained His anger. He flung furniture down the front steps of the Temple, and asked men how they expected to escape the damnation of Hell. Yet He restrained something. I say it with reverence; there was in that shattering personality a thread that must be called shyness. There was something that He hid from all men when He went up a mountain to pray. There was something that He covered constantly by abrupt silence or impetuous isolation. There was some one thing that was too great for God to show us when He walked upon our earth; and I have sometimes fancied that it was His mirth." G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy, 1908 Greetings to you Br. Casey and to everybody on this channel. From Italy 🌿🌿🌿🌿💒💒💒💒

As part of my Franciscan formation, I meet with my Novice Guardian, and spend time reflecting on my latest essay or on stuff that has happened. How would you feel, thinking about sharing some of your feelings and reflections on some of those powerful issues that people present you with. Not from their perspective or about them, but your thoughts on how that may be changing you and how the Lord is working in you. It is a joy to see you grow in your ministry through this channel.. Not interested in becoming a friar. But, what you can, maybe, talk about is knowing God, feeling Him there, when you baptize, or anoint the sick. I knew a priest, interesting man, Father Crawford, in Oakland, CA. He told me once about being called to the hospital. A teenager, burn victim, I don't recall how it happened. The kid was in a tub of water, and they'd given him pain relievers and anti inflammatories. Father Crawford was giving him Communion. It had been a while for the kid, and he was uncertain. Father Crawford broke of a bit of the wafer, and put it on the kid's tongue. Much later, I was a housekeeper at a hospital in Geauga County, OH. It's easier to clean these rooms, going from one to the next methodically. There was a kid with Down's syndrome, getting the anointing of the sick. I had moved my cart near the doorway, when I saw what was going on. This is a very private thing, and the kid knew what was happening, and, frankly, looked scared. I skipped the room, went to the next, and did that one last. I had been a holistic practitioner in a hospice in Oakland, and I was often called on to hold a hand, to try to explain what healing is, and how it doesn't always take the form we want. I was there 14 years, and left because I was burned out. But the feeling, to give someone some kind of comfort in their extremity like that was, seriously, why I was there. Can you talk about this? I am not Christian, but I could feel the Goddess with me as I held these hands. I'm a Reiki master, and, in session, I can feel the Goddess flowing through me to help give them the energy to do what needs to be done, whether it's to improve, or it's to separate body from soul. It was incredibly rewarding. I seriously can't do it anymore.

When I was a Capuchin postulant it was 1979 to 1980. No cell phones, no personal computers, no video equipment. Life was a lot simpler than I imagine it is now. Most of us lived in the main friary and the rest lived in the various friaries around Guam which wasn't that big an island. Community events and just hanging out occured at the main friary. The day began about 6:30 as we gathered for morning prayer followed by Mass and breakfast. I worked for the territorial government as Chief of Wildfire Protection so went to work after breakfast. We gathered at the main friary for noon prayer and again for evening prayer. We were expected to pray Compline on our own and mid-morning and mid-afternoon prayer if we could. When I got home from work I helped Brother Patrick prepare dinner. After Brother had a stroke and had to return to the mainland, I was responsible for dinner and we were on our own M-F for breakfast and dinner and I cooked all meals on the weekends. Wednesdays were a bit different. I got home, laid out a simple dinner, grabbed a bite to eat and rushed off to my parish for CCD with the Pastor and the kids. I think CCD is Wednesday nights in todo el mundo (all over the world.) After CCD it was back to the main friary and all of us who taught CCD around the island went out for pizza and beer together. Thursday was community recreation day. I worked in the morning unless there was a fire and I worked until fires were out. On Thursdays friars gathered in groups to do whatever they wanted: golf, hiking, scuba diving (carefully), cards, board games, napping, you get the idea. I spent most of the afternoon preparing dinner. We had an open dinner invitation for all of the clergy and male religious on the island so I usually prepared dinner for 40-50 folks. About mid afternoon, people started to wander in, the liquor cabinet was opened, a couple of cut throat Hearts games started and if you looked not very hard you would find a cribbage game or 4. Eventually dinner would come out and afterward the games would continue. Next tim I will discuss weekends.

Slightly similar to what many of us do everyday on social media. We go to interesting places and post the best of our pics etc. and then await the feedback. The thing is, quite often, there are other images we could post from these areas, like broken wine bottles, beer cans, rubbish strewn about, drunks and addicts wandering the backstreets etc. The nice pics only tell half the story.

The joy found in suffering is knowing that you are united to your beloved closer then ever the greatest glory of all of the mounts Jesus was on it wasnt the Mount with Elijah and Moses and Jesus transfigured, it wasn't the mount of olives either where an angel consoled him but Golgotha where the greatest of colsolation was given and this actually should be emotionally charging because you know your cross is teeny tiny compared to the one our Master endured out of love for us. In song of songs 3 the soul exclaims 1Bride: On my bed, throughout the night, I sought him whom my soul loves. I sought him, and did not find him. But then when in this unity of suffering the one you sought in sorrow is found and kept in your heart more heated in suffering because you know the gaze is their more deeply then anything and theres nothing else that matters to you. The flowery bosom is ignited because it suffers with our Lord in abandonment and pain its an honor to share every sting cuz its small. Thanks for sharing your comment lol i love the dark night as well i ponder it often as well the song of songs i might be wrong on the interpretation but its interesting what your willing to go thru for love

Brother Casey, I agree with privacy within community; yet there are many videos on KZbin presenting a communal prayer service. I believe it would be a valuable snippet of your life similar to a vocational promo, which gives a complete representation of your life as a brother. Privacy grant it; I get it and I’m sure you can present that, I also know the value of community vote or opinions. I enjoy your videos and life, and hope you can continue to reveal the the value of Religious Life in our world. 😀

The celebrant at our parish, St. Francis of Assisi, is, in fact, a friar from Siena College. He's a brown Franciscan; I grew up in a parish staffed by black (third order) Franciscans.

Remember Jesus once said "Come and see" and this is what you also are saying. I once followed this advice, but after a few years God showed me a different path. I do not regret either part of my life.

Thank you for this great, introspective video. Can you please make a video about prayer? How can we make our prayers the best possible and how can we escape occasional monotony while praying the rosary...?

There are perhaps some things we need to feel or experience for ourselves, they cannot be rehearsed or filmed. Like sense of His love and grace being with us, always.

Wow! Thank you for sharing that with us. The very truth of your life, of your passion. Makes sense to me. For me, Although I enjoy what you do show on camera, I'm content in knowing that there is a part, sacred part of your life that cannot be shown or maybe even explained. Thank you for sharing what you can 💜 Blessings!

it's true. some of the best experience just can be experienced by living as the clergy. I miss living like that again, to be close to God in a particular way not meant that a clergical life is more or less than non clergy, but it's a way worth travelling and worth living. I joined seminary 5 years ago, later God decide that perhaps better for me to have outside experience as well through university. Still I miss becoming a religious. To live for a cause that can only be understand by living it to the fullest, till the end, for God.

Interesting video from a former Catholic\Christian. The few things I do miss about my faith were the things taken away as the result of a priest that banned the rosary being said aloud and all songs to the Blessed Virgin. He and the diocese laughing about our reaction to a radical priest drove me away forever. My grandmother once said that God would bring me back to the church on my knees. She was wrong. I will happily accept hell as my fate, rather than go back or follow a God I no longer like or respect. I wish you happiness in your vocation and sincere hopes that you never feel like a stranger in your own faith.

I'm sorry to hear you say that. Certainly people of faith have done unfortunate things and one can understand some disappointment in them, but you can't honestly know what hell is as accept it as your fate, can you? Happily accepting hell is a contradiction in terms; hell is the absence of all that is good, and so even the bit of happiness you feel would leave you and all you'd be left with is resentment, anger, and self-pity. Surely you do not mean what you say.

Breaking In The Habit I joined the Catholic Church as a convert. I was taught and accepted that once a person has been exposed to the One true faith, that there is no salvation for them outside the church. I was a Lector, CCD teacher and Lay Minister. It was the only place in the world I could go and feel a part of something and welcomed. After my experience almost 20 years ago, I will never step foot in a church again. I have no faith and never pray. Not even for my dying father did I dare utter a prayer because I knew it was useless. I buried my nephew/namesake/God Son almost 13 years ago. He was 21 and had muscular dystrophy. My novennas to the Infant of Prague and the Blessed Mary were not only unanswered but I watched a child deteriorate for 18 years. Losing my faith was not the worst thing a person can experience. I have a genuine dislike for God and disagree with His ways that we are not allowed to question. Satan wasn't the only one to disagree, he raised an army that felt the same. They had seen the awesomeness of God and still turned away. I turn away by choice from a God I have never seen but gives me the choice of loving and obeying Him, otherwise he will allow me tortured for all eternity. The choice may not be good but I absolutely do not agree with the proposition. I am not a person who speaks of God as this all merciful and that we will all end up in Heaven. I know He is just and this will be my fate. I never asked to be born and truly wish I had been left out of His plan for life both here and the after. I know it is hard to imagine because your happy in your life and faith. I know the feeling, I was once there. You mentioned self pity, but there is more anger than pity. Letting go of something you love is tough. The best I can describe myself is I feel like a person without a country. It is true that you cannot go home. I will never place my trust in anything that man can play a roll in destroying.

The story you share is life itself. Media, entertainment industry, even news have distorted what life should be and what it is. The "fun" stuff is a very small part of life. The stimulation, adrenaline rush, euphoria of fun and excitement is not what life is about at all. Unfortunately, more and more are coming to believe it should be. The struggle of life and conscious effort to be more Godly has been replaced with entitlements and a continual search for happiness through external stimulation. It took me a very long time to realize there is not enough time and especially enough money to fulfill this false belief. Life is about the struggle, the sharing, the crying, the celebration of small wins, the love between family members, and mostly the love between man and God and our driving desire to be even a small part of what we can be in his eyes. I pray the human species wises up soon.
