Did anyone notice that Loretta (Sissy) made a chocolate pie in this movie, and it's won by her future husband? Unlike "The Help" (well, we all know what was in that pie!), salt was put in it instead of sugar. Apparently Loretta couldn't read and write, although she did learn to later on.

There’s a funny story about how Sissy actually played Loretta in the film, they gave Loretta a stack of actresses and she looked through them and said her, she’s gonna play me. When Sissy was offered the part, she was intimidated and to try to get out of it said, "Ok. But if I take it, then when the script calls for the character to sing, I'll sing it." Loretta's people said, "We'll get back to you on that." When Loretta announced on that talk show that Sissy Spacek was going to portray her, the next day she called and said. "So Ms. Lynn agrees that I will sing her songs?" And they said, "Yep. You're the one she wants so we'll honor your condition in the contract." Sissy had a huge amount of respect for Loretta and was afraid she wouldn't give a good enough performance. Loretta, though, knew she would.

The difference between an actor (actress) and a star is that an actor/actress pretends to be someone else. A star *becomes* someone else. And that's exactly what Sissy Spacek did in this movie when the camera was rolling. She *became* Loretta. And you could tell she was having a blast singing that song.
@OldRockerDave19508 жыл бұрын
That's one of the best definitions I've ever read for a star. Very succinct and absolutely true.
@mariegregory2516 жыл бұрын

Omg so wrong... The JOB of an actor is to become someone else; how good one is at that is a different story. By your "definition", stars are NOT actors anymore... (If a star becomes someone else, he/she cannot *pretend* to be that person hence a star cannot do the job of an actor, which is, by your faulty definition "pretending to be someone else") A "star" is somebody who's famous for what he does in an artistic field. NOW GO AND READ A BOOK :D *SO* cringy...

@kellyrayburn40936 жыл бұрын
47Mortuus I think you misunderstand the term "become" in this context. By 'become' I mean their performance is so convincing that suspension of disbelief comes naturally. And movie and film stars are indeed actors/actresses. They've just become so good at their craft that it's hard to tell the difference between them and those they portray (while the camera is rolling).

I liked the part where Doolittle gives her the guitar, and she asks him ,why did you get me that guitar, and he replies : cause I like the way you sing Loretta !

Her singing the music in this movie is what made the movie what it was... and she does such a good job at it. If she didn't sing, the movie would not have been the same... it would have never gone as far as it did.

Sissy and Tommy Lee had great chemistry together, on screen. He was the right choice to play Dolittle Lynn.

Sissy Spacek's Loretta Lynn should be in the top 10 greatest Best Actress Oscar winning performances.
