I’m 74 years old and only rarely do I get to attend church. The Sundays that I am able to go it’s only for the sacrament, and then my daughter needs to take me home. On the Sundays I can’t go the Priests bring the sacraments to my house. Sometimes a young woman comes, too. I can’t tell you what a spiritual experience this is. They bring such light with them. It shines and glows through their eyes. It radiates from their bodies. It lifts me up. When they leave a little bit of their light stays with me. It’s such a special moment. I try to tell them what good they do for me each time they come. I’m truly grateful for this blessing of the youth coming to bring me the sacrament.

Quick story: My Father was a Patriarch for nearly 30 years before he passed away in Aug 2022. Shortly before his passing one of my sisters asked him what ‘trends’ or ‘patterns’ did he see in the blessings he gave the youth? After pondering for a few moments, he responded that he felt that he was giving blessings to those youth who would be the parents of the children WHO WOULD GREET THE SAVIOR WHEN HE RETURNS. This was a period of time between the late 1990s to the 2010s. Those youth are now adults with their own children, so if my father was correct, this is the generation (a 20 year span) of the upcoming Second Coming. Sobering thought on the times we are living in…

The active topic on my mind when I started listening to this tonight was how I don’t want to keep teaching seminary. It’s my first few months of it, 6:00 a.m. and kids don’t want to be there. I was a missionary in South Africa from 1980-1982. Back then it was one mission, no temples. My last assignment was the city of Benoni. I was one of the Zone Leaders and it was just me and my companion, two sister missionaries, two missionaries in a nearby city, and two missionaries way to the East on the coast. That was the whole zone. Now, Benoni is it's own mission with over 200 missionaries assigned to it. I baptized the first black in Pretoria, a wonderful Zulu woman, and the first black couple in Vereeniging. I've seen the photos from the Mission mother for Benoni on Facebook and the ward is full of blacks, and now missionaries are learning Zulu. The growth of the church has been phenomenal.

Several months ago I said a sincere prayer to God asking for guidance on where we should move, stay here in utah or move out of state. With in minutes of my prayer, I feel like I was told to go to Bentonville Arkansas. As stopped by my local gas station, the video on the Gas pump started playing a short video of people mountain biking through the hills and at the bottom of the screen it said, Bentonville Arkansas. I said to my self, oh that's a coincidence. As I started driving down the road heading to work, a car slowed down and passed me on the left. As I looked over to see it had Arkansas license plates! Ever since that day I have fallen in love NWA. My wife and kids even gave me tickets to fly out there. We arrived in Arkansas Nov 14-17 th and explored the area. I feel like there is something different about NWA. I have a peaceful feeling about NWA. We had a great time visiting the temple, thorn crown chapel, Christ of Ozarks and now I just have to wait until my wife feels the same. I can't get NWA out of my mind.

I was born in 1971. My husband was born in 1963. I believe that there are many different ages in The Rising Generation. I believe it will be those who are rising to Him right before His coming. I believe we are in that time. I believe that if you heard one of His Prophets say those words and you felt they were directed to you by The Holy Ghost - they probably were. How much sense would it make that only the youngest generation living would be members of The Rising Generation? Heavenly Father is all about Families. So it makes sense to me that He is talking about the families on the earth in these last days. If 1 of His days is 1,000 years for us. Then why wouldn’t His Generations be different than ours? And what if He is already gathering some of His Rising Generation on the other side of the veil? Some very strong spirits have had short lives on this earth. Our families have had to say goodbye to a few of them. He has work that needs to be done on both sides of the veil. - Our understanding doesn’t limit His. - my thoughts

I understand what you mean. I’m 74 years old. That is not nearly as old as the prophet and apostles, but it certainly feels old to me. I’ve survived stage IV cancer and major surgery on my jaw that was caused by a very rare infection from the radiation treatment I received. The doctors did not expect me to wake up from that surgery, but I did. Several years before that, when I was 60 years old, I suffered a slight stroke. About a week or two after the stroke I began having cerebral seizures. These took away most of my memories. I had to relearn how to do just about everything I knew. My kids put me with the daughter that lived in the center of the family. Then they signed up to take turns caring for me. I couldn’t do anything for myself. This way it wasn’t too much trouble for any one of them. I was completely unaware of any of this. I mostly slept for the first four years. Yes, four years. During that time their lives continued on. One daughter graduated from the UofU. Another daughter graduated from a vocational school. My youngest graduated from high school with a GED. Another daughter had a baby. Everyone went on with me in the middle of it all. I also had a daughter who was disabled and they took care of her, too. Today it’s 14 years later and we’re all still together, most of us. But we all keep putting one foot in front of the other. I’m often reminded of the hymn written by one of my instructors at BYU. It was written for the Church’s Bicentennial Celebration ( I think). It’s called “ Faith in Every Footstep “. It’s about the pioneers. You and I are old. We need to have this as we cross the plains of getting older. Each day is different and we meet new challenges. But the Church hasn’t left us behind. Not really. We need to look for things every day to brighten our life and the lives of others. If you can find something about every day that makes you smile then you have succeeded. It doesn’t take much to find something to smile about. I’m sure you can do it. Then just maybe your smile will cause someone else to smile, too. Good Luck.

Because of the incontinence it makes it difficult to shop, I usually have to go to the bathroom at the grocery store. I haven't been able to go to Church because what if I have to suddenly go to the bathroom in the middle of passing the Sacrament. Thankfully I have Sacrament brought to me. At the Temple I'm unable to go to the Endowment sessions but thankfully can do sealings because if I need to go to the B.R. I can slip out of the room. I love the Gospel and am grateful to the Lord for helping me, I like to turn to God 1st if I have a problem and he answer's right away. I served an 18 month mission in Panama when I was 64 and look back to the fond memories of that time. I understand why President Nelson and the Apostle's have energy like they do because serving a mission gave me a lot of energy and I could walk better than I had in the previous 10 years.

Remember what President Nelson said: We all need personal revelation. It doesn't so much matter to an indivual what Elder Bednar said to an entire group of people. What truly matters is that they are moved by the words of the prophets to be unsettled enough to ask God for their own guidance. Some may have had a prayer in their hearts at the time of Elder Bednar's talk and received a confirmation of his words to them. Most will have been left with a responsibility to get revelation on the subject on their own time.

Jesus said in Matthew 24 that the days would be shortened for the elect's sake. What if that is literal? Would we be able to tell if time has actually sped up and the days are shorter, when most of the ways we measure time are relational to what we perceive with our senses?

I would be curious to know how you feel about the natives like Chief Cloudpiler, Chief Midagah, Shawn Littlebear, who claim their tribes have ancient scrolls, artifacts, records from Book of Mormon times & that they are descendants of the lamanites of the Book of Mormon. If these are true (so far I have not had confirmation from the spirit that they are, but many have), why has the church not acknowledged these records, as apparently they do know about them?

Elder Joseph Fielding Smith Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles "I would like to say, for the benefit of the members of the Church, that we have a key given us by revelation, by which false spirits may be known, by which false revelation may be known. There is only one man in this Church, at a time, who has the right to receive revelation for the Church. The Lord said that his house is a house of order, not a house of confusion, and therefore one is appointed to speak. One has the right to receive the word of the Lord and give it to the church. We all have the right to receive revelation for our own guidance. A president of a Stake has the right of revelation for the guidance of his Stake. But no man has the right to receive revelation for this Church, except the one whom the Lord has called. If he receives a revelation it will be declared without question, if it is intended for the Church, in a manner by which we may all know the source from whence it comes. And when we find people secretly distributing what are said to be revelations, or visions, or manifestations, that have not come from nor received the approval of the Authorities of the Church, we may put it down that such things are not of God. We do not need to write to ask questions in regard to these things. We do not need to question them for a moment, because the Lord is not going to give a revelation to any high priest, any elder, or seventy, for this Church. It will come through the one who is so appointed. And if the Lord is not going to choose those who have standing in the quorums of the priesthood, you may be certainly assured that he is not going to choose some one who does not hold the priesthood at all. So our minds may be at rest in regard to matters of this kind." Joseph Fielding Smith, in Conference Report, Apr. 1931, 70.

When you say "Second Coming", what do you mean exactly (just for clarification)? My understanding of the Second Coming is there will be multiple "comings": Christ will come first to Adam-ondi-Ahman, Independence Temple, Mount of Olives, and then the Wedding Feast. I think the Mount of Olives visit will be the world-wide visit. Is this what you mean when you say Second Coming?
@tamichristiansen3877 күн бұрын
If now is the time to prepare, then it probably means that the various second coming events are close enough to each other that we need to be getting ready now, before we see even the first event. My guess is that if we are ready to see Him, we will. I'd like to be ready so I can be part of all the events! How awesome would that be!
@ruthdorius28316 күн бұрын
The 2nd Coming is the Lord coming for All the world to see. The big event with Him arriving in such a way that no one will be able to deny. There are most likely a number of "comings" to certain Church leaders and possibly others prior to the big event.

I don’t understand the term hastening. It seems to imply that there was a plan, and now the plan has been changed to speed it up or hasten the original set date to something earlier. Did we mortals do or not do something to cause the Father to change the original plan?
@ChristianHomesteader7 күн бұрын
I see what you're saying. Here's a few things to consider: Elder Bruce R. McConkie Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles "The time for the Second Coming of Christ is fixed and certain as was the hour of his birth. It will not vary as much as a single second from the divine decree. He will come at the appointed time. The Millennium will not be ushered in prematurely because men turn to righteousness, nor will it be delayed because iniquity abounds." Bruce R. McConkie, The Millennial Messiah: The Second Coming of the Son of Man [1985], 26-27. ___________________________________________ D&C 52:11 11 For thus saith the Lord, I will cut my work short in righteousness, for the days come that I will send forth judgment unto victory. ___________________________________________ Elder Neal A. Maxwell Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles "Now, my brethren, “these are [your] days” (Hel. 7:9) in the history of the Church. Mark well what kind of days they will be, days when, with special visibility, the Lord will “make bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations.” (D&C 133:3.) God will also “hasten” His work. (D&C 88:73.) He will also “shorten” the last days “for the elect’s sake”; hence, there will be a compression of events. (Matt. 24:22; JS-M 1:20.) Furthermore, “all things shall be in commotion.” (D&C 88:91.) Only those in the process of becoming the men and women of Christ will be able to keep their spiritual balance. Brethren, may we “walk by faith,” and, if necessary, even on our knees!" Neal A. Maxwell, "My Servant Joseph," Ensign, May 1992, 39.
@andrewwood62857 күн бұрын
@ so … it’s not really hastening so much as the tempo of events is increasing. Hastening then sounds like a mortal feeling that it’s all happening too fast.

The generation in which these things happen will see the final end (see JS-M 1:34): unlike the other great destruction's, this one involves the entire globe when “all the tribes of the earth mourn” (JS-M 1:36). Then the Son of Man shall come, but first “he shall send his angels before him with the great sound of a trumpet” for a last gathering-“and they shall gather together the remainder of his elect from the four winds” (JS-M 1:37). Scriptural Perspectives on How to Survive the Calamities of the Last Days -Hugh W. Nibley Notice Nibley states that before the son of man shall come “he shall send his angels for a last gathering”, this is when the fishing program ends (gathering scattered Israel though the current missionary program) and the hunting program begins. President Harold B Lee stated the following regarding JS Mathew: Let me give you the sure word of prophecy on which you should rely for your guide instead of these strange sources which may have great political implications. Read the 24th chapter of Matthew-particularly that inspired version as contained in the Pearl of Great Price. (JS-M 1.) Why did Harold B Lee also highlight JS Matthew, because it applies to our day it is not just speaking of the time of Christ. Notice also the reference of the Savior himself to the words of Daniel.

I’m seeing a lot of the youth falling away after missions. They are not wearing their garments and are not wanting to be members. My own two children who were excellent youth both are struggling. My son came home early on his mission from Covid and fell into anti doctrine. He was the type of kid who read scriptures and was the best kid growing up. He has hated every moment at BYU and graduates soon. My daughter, also was a great kid, is serving in Spain and she is also having a hard time on her mission. She’s gained like 30 pounds and hates her mission because of it. She has a boyfriend that was baptized last year and now is into anti. My daughter is getting a triple whammy with her weight gain, an inactive brother, and now boyfriend. I honestly feel like I’ve been beaten up like Job as of late. If it wasn’t for my Bitcoin, Tesla, and Palantir shares going up last year, I’d think God has it really in for me 😂

@daisysweets8916 I was an institute instructor during covid, at this time we were not allowed to meet in person. So I distributed the lessons electronically. I was also given permission to make a set of lessons dealing with some of the faith crisis issues, much of this came from Hugh Nibley's book of Mormon classes at BYU. While living in Provo Nibley lived in our ward and was our gospel doctrine instructor. In one of the first BYU classes of the year he would mention many of the evidences of the Book of Mormon, which is very fascinating. I would be happy to send you a couple of these lessons. Additionally, Dr Garrit Dirkmaat is a professor of ancient scripture at BYU, he worked on the Joseph Papers project and was considered the expert on all things related to Joseph Smith. He and Prof. Richard LeDuc have put together a series of You Tube videos related to the historicity of many early church events. This video series is called Standard of Truth, I think there is more than one person using this title so make sure it Dr. Dirkmaat. If there is any early church history that troubles you, I would recommend listening to these videos. They cover all the difficult topics. Dr Dirkmaat has been in direct communication with the First Presidency, I am not sure if they encouraged the development of this series, but they are definitely aware of it. There is not currently an index to this set of podasts, and the titles to the podcasts are somewhat vague. This is a fairly recent development, I was thinking about contacting Dr Dirkmaat in relation to the development of a more precise index to specific topics.
