My sister grew up with the Supremes and she loved this song. I had it played at her funeral because she loved it, and now I know why - Her favorite girl group did it in the 60's and I didn't even know that.

@@ikexbankai No, I will NOT stop! 10 of the 12 number ones as well as "reflections" (#2) were recorded by Diane, Mary, and Flo, THE SUPREMES. Only 2 number 1's were recorded by Diana Ross and The Supremes, Diane, Mary, and Cindy. I am not going to sit by silently while the silly "Ross as a solo act" fans rewrite the entire history and legacy of THE SUPREMES with Ross Revisionist "facts" containing invalid and inaccurate information. The Supremes, Diana Ross and The Supremes, as well as the 1970's incarnations of The Supremes were all VERY different groups with very different personnel. Yes, all the groups were THE SUPREMES; so, let's CALL them that! They were Diana Ross and The Supremes for about "15 minutes" before they became The Supremes AGAIN in 1970 as they remain today.

I just put up a post about that! I saw them at the Copa on April 4, 1968...the day Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. When they came out for the first act, Diana Ross announced that the had been shot. When they came out for the second set, she announced his death and they dedicated this song to him. Is that on your album? I'm not sure if they were there for more than one night.

Their 3-part harmony performances are some of my favorites; this one and their version of "People", with Florence Ballard singing lead, are so fantastic. Their voices blended so well in harmony. I just wish someone had turned up Flo and Mary's microphone to equal Diana's. LOVED the camera angle at approx. 1:24 with the three ladies in profile, and I love how Diana backed off while Flo and Mary sang, "We'll find a new way of living." Very nice way to perform that. The ladies were gorgeous.

I was at the Copa in NYC on April 4, 1968, to see The Supremes. When they came out for their first set, Diana Ross announced that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., had been shot. When they came back out for their second set, she announced that he had died as a result of his wound. She then dedicated this song to him. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place.

there was something about Florence Ballard that escaped everyone insofar as its true significance. obviously, Diana had an enormous natural talent, however she was literally being spiritually impressed that much further...enormously further by the spiritual force pouring into Florence. And it is in this song beyond all the others, where it can be readily seen with eyes that can see such things.

egodust11 come on. Florence had a powerhouse voice where Diana had a mickey mouse voice. Florence should have been given this song then and only then would you see the true power of Flo. Flo was robbed in so many ways. I guess it pays to sleep with the boss like Diana did, huh? Diana just cannot hit the notes on power ballads like Flo could. Flo will always have a apecial place in my heart. xx

Hammy Cats69 .. I couldn't agree more. I wish there were some decent studio recordings of Flo. I heard some of her ability solo, and the inspirational power in her voice, but you can tell she was rushed in those recordings...so the mood was never properly captured. Like Paul Williams in the Temps, replaced by Ruffin (and rightly so, overall), Flo was replaced by Dianna, for no good reason at all (notwithstanding Gordy).

Well cut through the bs, they were called the Supremes until pillow talk eased in, and all of a sudden they were called Diana Ross and The Supremes, which I have always loved these ladies but look at the sadness in Florence's face, this started as her group, the Primetts, besides her personal life and management issues, that probably drove her to drink and didn't care anymore. R.ip Flo and Mary 🙏🏾 love ya Diana! 👍🏾

@pnyc1969 I have loved Miss Ross since fall of '64 and haven't gotten over it yet. Perhaps my fave youtube moment is at 1:37 of this song. I agree with your words - she works the song, had already sung it 100's of times, yet kept it freah. This dialog is so nothing, but she sells it like it's the meaning of life and the audience buys it - often there was applause after it! I love EVERYTHING she does in this clip, every step, nuance, gesture, flick of the hair......... OMG, MISS ROSS - lol.dig U!

These girls grow together as one and no matter how bad these girls fought I'm sure Diana did not won't flo to go. Put Mary to the side F/M Flo was Diane back bone Diane knew that Diana didn't even won't to leave, Berry made here leave and even the flo was Diane back bone Diana could still hold her own. HOWEVER, Mary and Flo both had (have for Mary) great voices that should've at least had songs on lead that were singles or album tracks.

But in the context of this feud I think we as fans should love the music they put out. All 8 of them are/were great singers. And even though they're rare, Mary and Flo did have some great leads on songs as well. It's just unfortunate that Gordy wasn't smrat enough in treating those girls like equals or that Diana, Mary, and Flo didn't let jealousy, greed, depression and the such seperate them.
