So I am a international viewer of sports, and I am watching from Germany. There I experience a lot of sports broadcasts every day so ranging from teamsports like football ("soccer" and American football) too Olympic sports or even more obscure things like pool and poker. But I follow the NBA aswell and it has a special sport for me because I play basketball since I was a kid. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, in US sports Media (both NBA and NFL broadcasts) there is a sensationalized approach to the sport, were I find that the talk about it should for some reason generate more clicks than the actual sport event itself. I have the impression that channels like ESPN really messed with there core audience by trying to one up themselves in clikbaiting people. When only watching short term analytics this is best done by making discussions more toxic and more controversial. But at some point there is a problem because not everything has to be controversial in the way that is fought out. I personally like the broadcasts and shows in Europe way more, maybe because of familarity, but I think mostly because they just don't shove the commerciallity in your face as much. So maybe watch, premiere league coverage, LaLiga (if you speak Spanish or don't mind subtitles), or if you want to go on a deep in research then the German Sportschau. (btw. these are no basketball league shows because I don't see that much European basketball, and these are in Germany at least very small networks, so football is more comparable in marked share fanbase etc.). There I think can be found sports broadcasting that is done in a better way. IN HOPE FOR LESS TOXIC TV
@Arnd4 жыл бұрын
HE4v7E4glE I'm from Germany too and I totally agree with your opinion. We also have some shows like the us but our shows are more into analyzing and debating what was good or bad. In the us they want to make controversial statements for going viral or more viewers. Maybe for some it’s entertaining but if they are always screaming their opinions to their discussion partner it will be boring after watching it more often. Analyzing it deep always have other outgoings and that’s the special thing about our sport shows. Greetings from the north of Germany
@Plupert4 жыл бұрын
As an American who watches a lot of football/soccer. I think the reason why the European shows are so much better is that most of the pundits are ex-professionals, legends in fact, like Hall of Famers in the US. There's a reason why NBA on TNT is widely considered to be the best NBA talk show, and that's because the hosts are legends of the game and have valuable inputs.
@Arnd4 жыл бұрын

Kenny put it beautifully when he mentioned their formula is growing old and at this point it's obvious. The problem with these talk shows is that they turn sports into drama TV. Most of their "debates" are overflowing with illogical and generalized statements that can be applied to many other team sports. Additionally, most of their takes are scripted and are flat out just for the sake of clicks. They can be funny at times, but I would much rather watch actual basketball analysis than people shouting opinions at each other. The purpose of a debate is to seek truth with respect for those with different opinions, but these shows are only motivated by the money. If you want to know real basketball don't watch these corporations, there are plenty of great independent creators on YT that are miles ahead of ESPN and Fox sports. Examples include, Kenny, Bsolz, Rusty, Funky, thinking basketball, coach daniel, bballbreakdown, swishout, etc.

The best way for a pure basketball stand point is to just speak ur opinion. If ppl just express what they really believe about a topic then u can get the most genuine reactions. U might lose the viewership in some scenarios but u will have the respect of the ppl. I think Steven A. does this very well in most scenarios because he’s not afraid to speak HIS mind and not the producers or anyone who’s trying to feed him “hot takes.” Stay killin the game Kenny

Small personal channels like yours are the antidote to what all these corporations have become. It’s the nature of the beast. They can’t afford to lose viewers. That can’t risk not making hot takes. That can’t not talk about MJ vs Lebron because they’ll lose money and now they have built up such a HUGE business any kind of change to what has been the foundation of these shows would only make them do worse. Let me ask you this, do you think they ever want to stop debating the GOAT conversation, really? I abandoned tv sports talk shows. They ramble on about nothing it seems when there are better more real platforms like you where you dive through the bush rather then dance around it for an hour to generate watch time. You’re real and awesome to listen to Kenny, and I feel like I get more out of a minute of your video than an hour of tv sports. Bless🙏

At the end of the day, I think there's something for everyone. You highlighted one specific show that prioritizes a certain audience that likes debates and ripping on outlandish takes. ESPN has several segments that each have something to offer in my opinion. The Jump doesn't really have takes but they bring on NBA players and sometimes legends like Scottie Pippen to just talk about basketball like civilized people. Jalen and Jacoby is a radio show and they also just talk about it rather than make up opinions for the sake of getting clicked on. ESPN also has its own debate style show in First Take, but it's much more genuine than Undisputed, making it actually entertaining in my opinion. They do recycle topics, but it's not like everyone watches every single episode so it makes sense to rinse and repeat the topics that garner the most views. I think the key is to mix it up and have different segments that each appeal to the audience in a different way.

You should react to “making the case” series, it’s about making the goat case for different players

Im glad these nba players started podcasting because that's some REAL insight into NBA basketball, not drowned by GOAT debates or player A is above Player B, but actual knowledge about the game. Man I watched Kobe on Darius Miles/QRich podcast and he's breaking down how to slip by screens and how that improved his game, like thats REAL talk by a Legend... And when it comes to analysis, theres Kenny and many great youtubers who actually research and provide good analysis. Like kenny said, nothing wrong with actual debate, but the click bait/nonsense takes are outdated as fuck. Support small youtubers (compared to TV) and player podcasts with actual insight. Keep it up fam

There is no way skip bayless actually feels how he claims to about lebron. He literally just hates to play a character some of his points are completely dumbfounded
@konkaiwa5154 жыл бұрын
@El-ahrairah I feel like at first, wherever he got his start, it was asked of him to be a lebron hater, and as time went on and he gained notoriety for being that, he or whatever management in charge decided to keep going with it regardless of what show he’s on. It’s kinda like his brand now
@GiantFlamingClasher4 жыл бұрын
konkai wa i think unc shay said skip really does believe what he says about lebron. but ion how much of it is pure hatred or just for show.
@youngboyxaj66924 жыл бұрын
El-ahrairah Yeah he is in complete control but it’s his brand, it’s been built. He can’t all of a sudden call Lebron the GOAT, because one there’s no tension when Shay and Skip debate. No tension, no clicks, no cklick... no money, no money...no show

I love it when I learn about basketball through shows (or realistically, KZbin videos). The most interesting commentary of the Finals so far was the commentators explaining the pistol action. Love learning; don't want to spend more time talking about a dude that retired 20 years ago.

well said kenny, i completely agree, this is all purely for entertainment. i also think on the other side of things that there are people out there that watch these shows when there are really bad takes to make fun of those takes or to try to see where they’re coming from with these horrible takes and try to understand it.

Kenny! I don't comment too often, and only recently started watching you during the quarantine, but honestly now I watch your videos about basketball takes now all the time instead of first take, undisputed, get up etc because you're more real and more into the Xs and Os like you said. I think its admirable you've followed your dream and made these great videos. Even though your not on the big networks, you've made it in my books cause of the quality you put out. Keep up the great work man!

I went through the same process. We are the same age and I used to stay up late watching SportsCenter almost every night, cause I wasn’t ever getting up early. But once I started watching the games and thinking about it I realized half way through High School where I realized they were saying stuff for the ratings. I still watched clips of Top 10 and I would watch when my fav team did something big but I stopped watching everyday and honestly once I could do stuff on my own I really didn’t need to have those talking heads tell me stuff. Honestly it turned from me watching these discussions to having them with my friends and the debating was happening at school or at practice. But like you I might watch some clips here and there but I just can’t ever get back in to those day time talk shows no matter who it is.

I agree 100% I’m 16 been watching these talk shows for 2 years now and it’s only 2 guys I can say that actually say wat they believe to answer your question Idk what the solution is because like you said debates are the entertainment factor and there would be much less debates with everyone being honest but sense you are reading your the goat ‼️you need a talk show I consider you a commentator and analysis and I have you at #1 right above Steven A keep doing what your doing 💯

Kenny for real is the only basketball talk show I need❤️
@sheepje42884 жыл бұрын
Kenny, I so agree with you. One thing you haven't mentioned is that 1 of the panelists has to love LeBron, and bring him into every single debate (and mention coming back from 3-1 at least once an episode). About the future of these shows, I think the problem is being stuck to a schedule. Sometimes you have a big sports news day, sometimes there's nothing. But all these current shows have their 30min/1h/2h etc timeslot that they have to fill. I see the solution that new media can bring is being flexible with your show, like the length of the show, and certain segments. It is why the podcasts these days are so popular. They are on a somewhat fixed schedule, but have a lot more room to flex. Also just invite P or DMills for an outlandish take if you ever need one :P
