Excellent Video! I've had the ICON 2.5 stage 7 on my 2014 FJ Cruiser and I really love it. Coming from the sports cars world, I really like a thigh handling. ICON is tight but not uncomfortable at all. When off-roading, the faster you go, the smoother it becomes and I really like it.

I am new to my 4 door super crew, 2017 f150 4x4 with the 2.7 twin turbo v6. I have no idea what shocks to buy. One in the rear is leaking and the two in front are aftermarket. The current shocks are smooth on the road and have minimal roll but when I hit a small crack in the road , pothole, or typical trail rocks it is bone jarring. What I want is a nice stable feel on the road and through mountain curves and non jarring mild off road capabilities.I drive on sandy beaches, gravel roads, through curvy mountain roads and through potholly city roads a lot. I do not rock climb or go fast on rocky trails.

Any advice for the 2021-24 F150 Powerboost owners? The added weight of this powertrain throws a wrench into owners plans as we all seem to love the ride quality, but getting the lift without sacrificing the ride is a bit more complex as most information relates to the 2.7, 3.5, and 5.0 drivetrain. The Hybrid is approx 500# heavier and the info out there is hit or miss related to getting the lift, keeping the ride quality and improving the Offroad ride.
@ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
Actually from our testing they do not really act all that much different usually perform the same and will see similar lift with a little extra preload on any coilovers. Some circlip adjustable options like the Bilstein 6112s are limited in available adjustment to get more lift, but in most cases any coilover will not only have enough spring to give you within 1/2" of the maximum lift recommended for the lighter trucks but have more than sufficient dampening force for the additional weight. Although certainly notably heavier, most of that weight is not on the front end, and with the leaf springs in the back, a little extra preload on any front coilover you choose should be all you really need.

The only real adjustable option that bolts right on is the Rancho RS9000XL which truthfully gets outperformed by a ton of non adjustable options. In the absence of high end adjustable options like a Fox or King, it is better to go with a good monotube like a Bilstein 4600 or 5100 Skyjacker M95 than a cheap adjustable shock.

The Bilstein would likely perform better with the additional weight out back , but if you are planning on running an aftermarket bumper in the future, you may want something with a universal coilover spring like the Eibach 2.0 coilovers use, so it will be easier to find a stiffer spring if need be. In the rear, I would definitely recommend a Dobinsons coil, however, they do have a lot of options, so it will really come down to how high you want it to sit and how much constant load you want to account for.

Any talks about ADS ? I'm looking for feedbacks vs Bilstein 8112? Before installing on the 24 Tundra..
@ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus 11 ай бұрын
The only coilovers ADS has currently for the new Tundras are their standard 2.5s and Bilstein has not officially released 8112s yet, however we are fairly confident they are in the works. We love ADS and they make some of our favorite shocks, but there is not a 2.5" body coilover on the market that can keep up with an 8112 due to their internal jounce and rebound stops. This allows them to be more plush in their normal ride zone and exponentially more supportive against bottoming and topping out. They also use some of the best seals on the market which pretty much outlast anything else out there. We have tons of sets running around and not a single one is even close to coming back for service. Our only complaints with them are that the standard parts do not have dampening adjusters and the compression jounce cut-offs can make a little noise on the road when you hit a big bump and might limit upward articulation in the rocks at low speed, however the new DSA+ versions that are slowly getting released include low speed and high speed compression as well as adjustment for the JCO engagement. This means you can back off the JCO on the street so it is quiet or when you need all the articulation you can get.

@ShockSurplus Can you upfit a BP-51 w/the SDI system? If so, pros/cons?
@ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
Technically you could but it would not really work all that well. The SDIs control flow into the reservoir and since these are an internal bypass the flow into the reservoir is less than what you would see with a traditional remote reservoir shock or coilover. So I am sure you would still see some benefit of the SDI reservoir but it would not be able to alter ride and handling as much as it would on something else.

depends what kind of budget you're running with, typically a softer responding 2.5 shock, or an adjustable shock like the Dobinsons MRR or OME BP51 where you can adjust the compression/rebound for your load.

You could probably run the eibach lift springs on the hoss 3.0, but i dont think the SDI Eclik will adapt to the hoss 3.0 fox reservoirs since they're piggyback. Eclik reservoirs require a remote reservoir (hose) setup.

We have been running a Carli kit with Kings on our Power Wagon for awhile that has been killer. The truck spends most of the year in the Sierras so it sees a fair amount of cold weather as well. Ironically we actually preferred the out of the box tuning of the 2.5s used in their pintop kits over the 3.0s, but if you like something soft the 3.0 Dominator kits are like riding on air. Give us a holler when you are ready to pull the trigger or if you have any questions and we can definitely get you dialed in. www.shocksurplus.com/pages/contact-us

6100s are a killer value for just abut $100 a strut more for the front end. Nissans have a little funky geometry in regards to motion ratio on the front end, so the additional 0.6" of body and piston size does wonders for giving a little better ride, comfort, and support.

guys, can anybody give me advise: standard oem suspension on BMW X3 E83 (235/50/R18) is really hard, want to replace and go to softer comfortable option what would you recommend? Offroad is not big topic, mainly city, highway and offroad very rarely... thx in advance for your suggestions.
@ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
Not a ton of options really aimed at comfort for that particular application, but I would start with trying to run a comfort oriented tire with a little taller sidewall if you can get away with it, and then matching them to a good set of OE replacements like Bilstein B4s. I would also check to see if it has the sport suspension options, and if it does, you will see a lot softer more livable ride by switching to the struts and springs for a model with the standard suspension.

yeah thats the worst part of the service need, being down a vehicle. We're working on a set of demo shocks, but that's hard considering how many apps there are. What vehicle do you have? We sometimes have options to send so your vehicle isn't out of commission while a rebuild is happening

Got a little confusing again when you said that when you talked about "speed" (fast or slow etc.) you would be referring to the "speed" of the shock's up or down shaft travel in inches per second (in./sec.). Then about half way through the video you seemed to be talking about the "speed" of the vehicle travel. Was a great video though. I suggest instead of "speed" for shock shaft travel that you use the word "rate" instead.
@ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, yeah i can see that contradiction. We mostly speak in shaft speeds to try and explain compression feel. Most drivers understand going too fast and hitting an unexpected hard obstacle that bottoms out the suspension. So yeah, probably may be confusing not to stay consistent

@@ShockSurplus I would rather pay $4K and have the best, than pay 4-5K and get not as good kings and foxes. Nothing is overkill if it’s better and cheaper than the non overkill option. The bypasses are really for the high speed environments with medium to larger whoops (not trophy truck level though), and paired with external bumpstops to handle the really hard hits. The 8100 smooth body are more than adequate for your use, and most people's uses. They can still take the hard hits and rebound extremely well, especially in moderate-easy stuff
