Ah yes. "adjust as needed" without actually showing how to adjust. Perfect!

I'm just getting started with Da Vinci Resolve. I have never seen a more comprehensive and feature packed software program in my life. I doubt there is anyone that will ever master everything it does. Amazing.

The attack seems a little laggy, at least in this sample. They haven’t put sound mixers out of business just yet. With that said, this and the new ISO tool can cut down on a lot of futzing with audio in the early stages of an edit so that clients don’t have to deal with wonky audio during review. It’s a very valuable upgrade.

It doesn't seem to do anything for me. My issue is that the the audio is low with occasional loud noise from wind. I just wanted a fast way to lower the wind

I get clicky, gritty artifacts on projects I edit for. Adding a high pass EQ across all clips got rid of most, but I had to tune the cutoff to reach a compromise. Seems the algorithm doesn't track low frequencies well just yet. Some voices are affected more than others. Still, it's a great time-saver!

Great tips! I just wanted to write that a nearly 2-minute sponsorship in an 8 minute video is a bit excessive... that's about 25% of the length of your video right there! But I guess you've gotta pay the bills somehow.

Thanks for the vid! The titles are impressive and a decent price, have you noticed if they tax the system? Some of the stock glitch type titles pretty much bring Davinci playback to a crawl for me, wondering if they optimized these since there are so many animations...

4:05 Without an audio waveform to objectively show the volume of the clip, this comparison is very hard to judge. Maybe you could add that next time. An audio waveform whenever comparing audio, a video waveform whenever comparing two images.

Where would you just use a compressor over the dialog leveler? In our instance, we've made our edit and have adjusted each takes audio to be roughly the same volume on the timeline. We might also have made some tracks a little louder or quieter, depending on how string of a voice an actor has. Adding a track-level dialogue leveler doesn't seem to do a while much a normal track-level compressor couldn't also do.

Truth be told, I use both. Leveler is always my first step in the chain, then audio clean-up, then EQ and compressor.

There are a couple free vocal leveling VSTs from Sonic Anomaly called TriLeveler2 and VOLA2. Both of them offer more control than Resolve. Sonic Anomaly is no longer making plugins but you can still get them from plugins4free... which sounds shady, but it only hosts legally free vst plugins. lol😉

I use studio 18 and the dialogue leveler is without any effect. W11, RTX 2080, i13700k. Voice Isolation works fine. What can be the cause? Thx.

I need one big feature of adobe premiere pro & that is auto caption because I'm trying to editing short form content and that's one of the most important feature in it. please make a video or mention about it so davinci resolve at least look into it. thank you Jay Lippman ❤

I've watched and listened to this episode a few times with my B&O headphones plugged into my 3.5mm port and my Bluetooth Sony noise cancelling headphones. I've also watched and listened to a couple of episodes from a few months ago to get a comparison. I have partial hearing loss, which may or may not be subconsciously selective when she-who-must-be-obayed is talking, so this may skew my thoughts. 🤣 This is all subjective, however I liked the version at Timestamp 2:15 to 2:58. I realise that you were deliberately moving your head to and from the studio mic to demonstrate that the audio faded in and out. However I liked this 3D sound effect, because my brain is subconsciously expecting the audio to change as it does in real life. If I was stood in front of you and you turned your head away then I'd expect the sound levels of your voice to change. If I did not know that you were doing a tutorial on sound design, I probably would not have even registered the use of Audio Levelling once you put the same clip through the washer to clean it up. I've also discovered that I much prefer my wired headphones over my Bluetooth headphones. I'd been using my sexy new Bluetooth headphones constantly for a month purely for convenience because I did not like the cable of my 8 year old headphones snagging and pulling off my ears. Resolve is creating some sexy new tools and I'd say that the Voice Enhancer along with Noise Reduction, in the Colour Page, are the two main killer features that could tip people over the edge and buy the Studio Version over using the free version. Maybe that could be a potential episode, to show all the cool extra everyday features that we take for granted using the Studio Version, rather than the very capable free version and worthy of throwing some money Blackmagic's way.

Thanks Frank! Yeah, I always prefer wired to Bluetooth, especially for editing. And the fact that you can’t tell that anything was done to the voice is precisely why I love this tool. It’s a subtle difference, which is exactly what you want.

Wired doesn’t use digital compression like wireless. Noise cancellation will also alter sound. The sony MDR-7506 give pretty flat response. Pretty good to find problems in audio. They are probably the most common for sound editing. They are not that expensive. They have better for more buck, but these are used alot for many years.

This will be of good use if I 'ever' get the audio recording issues resolved in my new PC. I am thinking the problem lies in Windows 11, 22H2. Anyone else having bad luck with that?

Jay, do you have a video on how to work with one clip/section within a track to change just that one section? I've created a voiceover and have had to go back and redo sections to correct aspects other than sound - like changing the copy. This was done the same day, with the same mic, in the same position, however my voice seems really bassie/deep in one of the corrected sections. How do I correct just that one segment? Thank you
@JayLippman
@JayLippman Жыл бұрын
The answer to that is a lot longer than I can give in a comment, but it sounds like what you’re attempting to do is EQ matching. There are a few third-part plugins that can do a pretty good job of this automatically, but the only way to do it natively in Resolve is to play around with EQ and compression.

Jay, I have a suggestion for a tutorial - The "Select Range Tool" has been removed in Resolve 18.1. It was replaced by the "Focus Mode" tool however if one searches in Google and KZbin ZERO information comes up. I just talked to support at Blackmagic and they cannot find any info on this new tool either. Searching the new Resolve 18.1 manual for "Focus Mode" has ZERO results. Please do a tutorial on how to use the tool and how in 18.1 to do the looping, as the tool that you used (Select Range Tool) is not there anymore. Thank you

I used dialogue leveler for the first time a few days back and it created multiple clicking artifacts which made it unusable, very frustrating as it is such a potentially helpful tool.
