In the original anime they have it because they(not the last one) are based off what Christians wore back then. And if I remember Spain uses those outfits during celebration (I would look this up because it has been awhile since I looked it up). And the one that says maybe Jesus wasn't the son of god is Jewish.

Actually the pointed hoods are still attire of the holy knight orders. They just don't wear them much anymore because of the misunderstandings that tend to happen because *one particular group* decided to steal their look, and ruined it by being obscenely racist.

Jews have tons of denominations, but because there are so few Jews these denominations are very unpopular and are often confused with one another. Depending on the denomination Jews believe one of several things: 1. Jesus never existed in the first place. 2. Jesus is not the son of God (that includes the statement that he is a false messiah). 3. Jesus was actually the son of God (Jews who think that do exist but there are very few of them and they're often considered a sect by other Jews).

Right? It's hysterical. People crying about it being homophobic, anti-religion and racist, but not understanding that it's making fun of all of those things. The paladins looking like the KKK, a Jewish paladin that just seems happy to be there to kill some nazis, poking fun at how homophobic the real Salvation Army is and then roping it back with an actual KKK member because it is exactly what it looks like. Anderson's speech about the Pope is still sadly relevant today based on how modern Christianity has drifted away from being a good person to just being another terrorist with robes but with a different book. They did push the envelope but the comedic timing and layers of social commentary really nailed it.

@@solblackguy Sorry to be "that guy" but christianity "drifting away from being a good person" would imply that thats what it was about before... Even a cursory glance at history tells us that the organised part of that religion (and sadly way to often the personal part as well) is everything BUT. (crusades, supporting the nazis, justification for all sorts of horrible belives and rampant unchecked pedophilia are just some of the problems as mentioned/poked fun of by the show.)
