No it isnt...its a blanket term africans from french speaking african countries identify with as a grouping. Cameroonians, ivory coast individuals, malians, guinean, togolese, congolese both brazza and kin all refer to themselves at times as "francophone"..

Probably coming from one of the French territories like Guadeloupe or Martinique where African were taken to for forced labor. Never heard anyone say that before.

@@S3bot French african colonies are called francophone countries. Their colonisation was more of assimilation so they consider themselves French.

@@adjoa-anima I was just trying to make sense of what she meant coming from France. People from French speaking Africa are referred to as Francophones not French but that only refers to someone anywhere who is French speaking and not about cultural, ethnic or ancestral origin.

@@joemensah9557 French speaking African plus Ghanaian. Anglophone for English speaking African countries.
@joemensah9557
@joemensah9557 3 жыл бұрын
@@wilsonhowie2968 what a silly way for one to describe where they come from. You are either Ivorian, Ghanaian or Senegalese or African. You can’t describe your origins by referring to the foreign language that you speak. all these countries have indigenous languages so I’m a bit baffled. As a Ghanaian, I will never describe myself as an English speaking African. I am a Ghanaian period! It’s about time, the ‘French speaking nations’ and the media STOP describing themselves as FrancoPhone . Most Africans associate themselves with the name of their country of origin not a foreign language.
