The thing about Wikipedia is that they have very strict guidelines for what information is allowed to be included, more specifically that they can't use any information you've told about yourself in content that you are also the creator of (since it has to be "verifiable" and "peer reviewed" to an extent). As such, they have to rely on information you've presented in interviews with published sources, verifiable databases (such as imdb), and so forth. This is why they cannot really talk about your early career, since original research is forbidden on Wikipedia. For that kind of information to be included, you'd have to have someone write an article about you, researching your career, or something similar, where that article does the original research, which Wikipedia can then use as a source. It's a bit weird when it comes to internet personalities, but it DOES stop Wikipedia from turning into a fan-wiki.
@arnsta92082 жыл бұрын
Yes, many people don't realise this due to wp's reputation, but the rules there are surprisingly strict if you aren't a very active/respected user.
@NexusBecauseWhyNot2 жыл бұрын
I find it to be a good thing that there are strict rules, but for somebody who only creates his own content and doesn't do interviews it's kinda dumb to have a barren wikipedia page but a 20 pages essay about their life on a fan wiki, doesn't help with the information about the person at all, only there to exist. Some people had straight up false information that won't be changed because "it was officially stated by a *trusted* source" (and for that I have an example: Tim Pool, known youtuber that presents news, had on his wikipedia page that he built a zeppelin, which is false and easily verifiable to be false, but writers and moderators would refuse to correct it even if he stated in other sources that he didn't do it, to the point that moderators kept it up out of spite. They took it down after he announced he will be making a zeppelin to make the wikipedia page accurate, as a joke).
@Lexxaro2 жыл бұрын
But why is it on Japanese Wikipedia then? If information is there, it should also be allowed on English Wikipedia.

Wikipedia can be strict about copyrighted images so maybe any editor just couldn't find any images that they were confident about being fair use / CC / public domain. I wonder if you saying on video that they can pick from your Instagram counts as a license or if it has to be written because whatever.

17:09 that is persian which uses the arabic script but is in a completely different language family than arabic. but is still interesting how there is no arabic article yet there is a persian one since there are more articles written in arabic than they are in persian. (i think there is over a million for arabic and around 800'000 for persian) 17:15 and that's ukrainian which is uses the cyrillic alphabet, the same alphabet that russian uses. a fun fact about ukrainian is that it is considered to be much more closer to belarusian than russian. (ukrainian has over 1'100'000 wikipedia articles and russian has over 1'700'000) sorry for this long comment, just wanted to spread some info about these languages.

Hey Joey, something seems wrong with the bitrate. The video looks quite "blocky" even at 4k. Don't know if it's just for the camera though.

I can say from experience, you can find a lot about a person just knowing their full name and some other piece of personal info and googling it. I regularly google myself to see what information the world has. You can EASILY find family information online, within an hour or less. Yep, its terrifying but sadly that's where we are in the world.

In Croatia, there's actually a solid community of anime/manga fans and appreciators of Japanese culture, that is actually quite big, relative to the country's size and population. There's also a con (Pandakon) that is held yearly, I believe. There are also two universities in the country (Zagreb and Pula, I believe) that offer university education in Japanese language and culture (as well as Chinese, in Zagreb). The community is really dedicated, so I don't find it as surprising that there is a page about Joey in Croatian :D Also take into account that there is a large community of Croatians who emigrated to Australia sometime during the previous century, one example being Lorde (her mother is of Croatian descent and our previous president awarded Lorde with a honorary citizenship) :D Congrats, Joey! :D

We have that sort of thing in Serbia too. There is actually a famous language gymnasium in a city called Sremski Karlovci where people can start learning Japanese language and culture in high school! Also I was really surprised to find out that there is quite a large anime/manga community. I honestly thought this type of stuff hasn't caught on here in the Balkans, but I guess it has...

@@Kolket1389 Now you guys in the Balkans just need to watch Attack on Titan so you stop killing each other
@lucedrobac2 жыл бұрын
@@Kolket1389 oh, that's actually really cool! In Croatian linguistic gymnasiums ("jezična gimnazija"), depending in the region of the country, you'll probably be offered one of the more "popular" languages, such as German, Italian or French. The only case that stands out from this, as far as I can remember, is one gymnasium from northern Croatia that sent their students to an Esperanto competition somewhere in Europe :D but that sounds very extracurricular-y and probably depends exclusively on the good will of a teacher or two who organised their time for teaching Esperanto. As far as the anime/manga community, I believe there were actually more activities a couple of years ago, compared to now, due to the pandemic, but hopefully it'll pick up again soon :D
@samuraijosh15952 жыл бұрын
Croatia counts as Eastern Europe right? I've been noticing this... I find it suprising that anime is decently more popular in Eastern Europe than Western Europe. Anime/manga culture hasn't picked up properly yet in UK, Germany, etc. But it's quite popular in spain, France and Portugal which are exceptions to this trend.

On the photo issue they get very very specific about having properly licensed stuff - if you can CC license something or perhaps upload a photo to commons and assert it's your own work it can be used.

I'm 34 and thought anime had always been popular (but I'm also a Japanese descendant and grew up in a city full of of other Japanese descendants). I used to have Sailor Moon backpacks (and my brother had a Saint Seiya one). My dad used to watch some anime as well (also Brazilian born and raised, almost 62 now).
@AkumaDayo2 жыл бұрын
Tbf Brazil has a high population of people who are of Japanese descent so it would make sense I do know for a fact tho that over here in the US, anime didn't really become mainstream til like say 2014 or around that year Before that, I'd get teased a lot for liking anime and manga haha Anytime I'd be doodling in a sketchbook I'd get asked if I was "drawing anime" even if I wasn't drawing in that style lmao Then the popular kids started watching AoT and I got teased a little less 💀

I couldn't help think of Sheldon Cooper from 'Big Bang Theory' saying "Bazinga!" In the early 1990s, I remember going to Best Buy in the Bible Belt and purchasing the more risque anime on VHS. Cosplay and Anime were introduced to Americans at least a decade before that.
