I'm a 30 year old viewer who's watched you for years (in my 20s). There's generally so much fear among young adults about turning 30 like it's this horrible thing. In reality it's one year from 29. It's true that this mentality of not really caring what others think, being content and satisfied with yourself and your life where you're at right now. That is what these young adults afraid of it don't see. It's fear of the unknown, and a lot of ageism especially online reflects this due to this fear of inevitably aging but it's like your 20s but more grounded. More self assured. More content with who you are as a person. To me its an upgrade. Your teens and 20s are a time of figuring out who you are as a person. Your 30s are for living as the person you know you are.

It's refreshing to hear someone say "I'm okay with getting old". We've been too bombarded with this need to fight aging, and do as much as we can right now and fast. It's nice to hear that at the end of the day the important thing is to enjoy the process and do what fills you at your own pace.

It's wrong to completely abandon to fight aging as well. At least physically: I don't want to be a broken man by the age of 40-50. So, I have 15 years on you. I'm about to turn 42. In your 27 years you have built one hell of a life. I can only wish that I had gotten myself together a bit younger. I mean, I've done some shit. I lived in Okinawa for a year when I was in the Marines. It was one of the best years of my life. Everything kind of fell apart for the next decade or so after that. A lot of it sucked, and I really could have done better. I finally caught a couple of breaks and pulled myself together in my 30s, and now I own a house out in the country, with some land, and a job that I love. I know that was kind of a ramble, but the point is that you are just kicking ass and I wish that I had had the gumption to pull myself together and live my dreams the way you are. You and Aki make me happy. Seeing the life you've made together makes me hopeful. I'm glad that you've made it. Keep it up, and keep doing more awesome shit. It does my heart good.

I had been annoying my older brother with repeating or singing something, so he kicked me out of the dining room chair I was in (yes, footed me like a wrestler on the turnbuckles!). It ended up being more hilarious than offensive to me. However, the sandwich I'd been eating fell to the floor and I had intented to enact the Three Second Rule...but then the dog gobbled it up. I dramatically fell to my knees on the tiled floor and yelled "Nooooooooo!" as our dog Scooby licked his lips and asked for more 🤣 That memory makes it a little easier to deal with the pain on those days and thankfully, they don't hurt every single time it rains.

I totally understand the Mahjong obsession. I got into it about 5 months ago after having to play it for my 100% completion of 竜が如く0(Yakuza 0). Since then I have played a south game or two pretty much every single day lol. Almost hit that elusive master rank on Mahjong-Soul. I've been watching lots of the M-League on Japanese TV too. I'd love to play with you/the commentors someday. Have a good one!

My BOY Joey, Being old is inevitable, but feeling old is a choice. Getting old is not about enjoying 'old people things'. Lol. You are still finding the novelty of golf and mahjong exhilarating which is a sign of youth. The feeling of getting old is a 'BEEN THERE DONE THAT' feeling except now it applies to your whole life in general, that's old. Life feels like it has diminishing returns the older we get because we tend to lose our curiosity and wonder about the world. Some people NEVER feel old despite being in their 70s or 80s because they maintain their sense of curiosity and wonder. It is not a good thing to feel old. Keep your youth as long as you can not just for your own sake but for the sake of everybody who watches you! You bring a lot of joy to this world (I love your Trashtaste podcast haha).

I’m hitting 20 coming this March and honestly isn’t about getting old for me but getting thrust into adulthood is kinda jarring. I think I still have a mentally im still the same kid since I barely met at Anime Matsuri 2016. I was a 14-15 year old kid just happy to be attending the con. Hey I still remember you signed a book that I had called All You Need is Kill. But as I’m attending college I still think about the fact that I’m not gonna have time to do these things I’ve kept up with as a kid. Like anime and manga for sure. Shit I played Destiny at launch date at 12 years old and I’m still playing it going into 20, it’s insane that era is eventually coming to close for me and I’ma gonna those moments where I do hobbies like make my own furniture or even stuff like telling my kids about the things I used to do when I was younger. I really wanna embrace but I haven’t even broken two decades yet so I’ve got a long time.

Nice reflection Joey! I'm 28 just days ago and at this age, I also spend lot of time thinking about myself. Apart from the hobbies, I think most of people at these ages also compare themselves with friends a lot about their job position, relationship, family and owning a house. That IS stressful. But I agree with you, as long as you can enjoy your life, enjoy it. BTW, I also enjoy sipping a coffee like an old man lol.

I can honestly really relate with this video. And I love seeing Joey grow as a person. I started watching his videos when I was 15 bc I had a passion for anime and agreed with a lot of his opinions. Now I'm 24, and I've genuinely enjoyed seeing his content change and develop over the years. I started to personally relate to so much of it. Being in a long distance relationship, moving to a new country, finding new hobbies, talking to your younger sibling and feeling OLD, even if we're not old haha. But anyways, thanks for the journey Joey, I can't wait to see how you and your channel grow in another 9 years

I like your outlook on getting older Joey. See I'm in the opposite pool where, I am the same age as you roughly but I feel like I am not old at all. Like physically I feel old. Which for 26 is awful. But mentally I feel like I'm in my early 20s still. Hell even 19. I honestly consider that a bad thing tho because it means I don't feel like I have matured much or grown. Like I have in some ways but not many. I guess this video helped me realize this.

I have few friends my age who enjoy these things as most of the people in my meetup group are 20 years younger or more. Having a medical condition allows me to to work my job at home so I tend not to get out anymore. I stopped going to conventions because I tend not to see people my age much anymore. I don't feel old but I do not see people my age much with the same hobbies. That is what I deal with now.

I changed alot into old man mode between my 25th and 30th birthday. Now im 37, and im pretty set on my old man stuffs (being married, having kids, work, having SMITHING as a hobby and some other quirky things). But that doesn't mean your youthful personality or whatever you want to call it, will go anywhere. You will always be you, just a little more informed you, with more experience in life. Don't let age scare you into forcing yourself to become stereotypical adult. I enjoy my isekai with no shame (ok a little shame), i still giggle at memes, still act like my weird self as if im 16. Just with some more responsibilities.

I'm 30 and I can attest to time moving way too fast... Like the four years of high school felt like the same amount of time as 10 years as an adult. I also often contemplate how I would feel as a high schooler knowing what my occupation is now and how my life has gone.. some good some bad. Definitely would be upset if I realized I would end up with a bunch of chronic health issues, but I would be pleasantly surprised about other things.

I always find it funny when people younger than myself says they feel old xD But I get it, it's not the age, but the mentality. It's the life experience, the wisdom you've gained over the years. How you've matured through life. Though I'm only near 34, oh boy do I feel the "I'm old" many times during the day xD Things I used to do and be into, what the "youth" do and are into today, I catch myself thinking "How? Why? I'm to old for this" It's a really fun topic to discuss, especially when you still feel like a kid at other points :P
@henta76082 жыл бұрын
I always find it funny when people 25~35 say they are old. I think 30-40 maybe even 50 is the peak of your life. You are old enough to not have money issues like in your 20s and if you have looked after yourself (exercise and eating properly) you have enough energy to enjoy doing anything. It might be wrong of me but i always assume people complaing about back pain or other general "old people" aches or issues in their late 20s or early 30s havent looked after themselves. Barring people with medical issues of course, if your body sucks 20s-30s that is your own fault. You aren't old. Just lazy. Not you specifically Xando :D just people in general.

Hobbies of any kind can be enjoyed by anyone of any age; as long as you’re loving it and it brings you happiness THATS totally fine! Honestly I’d see my early 20’s as an extension of my teenage years and once I got to my late 20’s I became more driven on the person I wanted to be. I’m 34 turning 35 and I still enjoy the things I love as a kid (video games, anime, cosplay ext) and I’m embracing the new hobbies I’m learning in my 30’s like knitting, baking/cooking, and building furniture. Just chilling and being content with who you are is really the best feeling there is. If you’re not there yet then you can always improve and learn more things about yourself.

I just started this same type of "feeling old" mentality right now in my early 20's and so far my only solution is just that I've entered a sort of last chance state to learn more. I'm learning/refining my computer skills, reading more about self care and stuff, expanding my vocabulary and now trying to learn a new language and other stuff I wouldn't normally read up on. Not saying this is a sure way to cope with this kind of mentality but if someone wants to try it, be my guest. I hope this helps in a way.

I am 19 right now, my mom recently found a complete gray hair on my head and picked it out. Of course I was like "Why did you do that, it stings a lot." When she showed it to me I was kind of perplexed because I thought getting gray hair is something that only happens to old people. I am not sure if it is a genetic thing or because of getting more stressed in school. I don´t know. Hell, in 3 years I could have half my head without hair. Scary thoughts.

Many of us just feel the need to go into things that are of a slower pace, more offline nature, and this isn't necessarily a symptom of becoming old but just social media and online fatigue. you're a content creator so the effect must be ten times as strong. Personally I'm getting much more into language learning not for any particular work related goal but just for cultural interest. I also crave stuff that is not work related or that doesn't have to be integrated into work somehow. The older you get the less each year is a proportion of your total life, the age becomes a bit arbitrary after 30 until retirement age. Don't worry about it man, I felt the same way, and I also became comfortable with my age. I think maybe your pondering is amplified by the fact that you live in Japan where maybe there are more cultural expectations for age, and what a person should be doing. Who knows, you can tell us. Nice video Joey!

It's very valuable to go after old man interests. Everything up and around it look at you and wonder why, it's just when you are in it, these hobbies pay off in dividends and keep you stronger later in life. You have experienced and made the claim that you are more dad then others, and it's true, you have so much life experience now and it's fantastic. Keep up the good work and keep up sharing these outlooks, expressing them helps alleviate the group of any growing pains they are also experiencing. It's cool to grow up together.
