Debra Meehan is a really elegant woman, who has a smart mind but lacked a lot of common sense and was fairly naive. She didn’t see signs she should have a lot sooner, and unfortunately she realizes it now. It almost cost her daughter’s life.

Agreed about all you just said. Was she desperate or something, so desperate she did not see the signs sooner?@@Ashbash-kf5xd

Her mother's desperation almost got her child killed, he stabbed her repeatedly and was prepared to go for the rest. When your child tells you they don't like somebody right off the bat...believe them it's their innate primal instinct.

Um, no. There was nothing but contempt towards any man her mother dated. This was established early on. Nothing from her daughter was done out of love. It was done out of spite. She makes John look like a boy scout

Considering Debra's track record with men and the fact that she was divorced 4 times, don't you think her girls had a reason to be cautious around John? How sad was it when the youngest daughter admitted in therapy that she always blamed herself for the men in Debra's life leaving her?!

@@brucebolduc4568 I'm sorry! This is a scene from the second episode that came on last Sunday so I thought you were up to date on the episodes. You might change your opinion of Debra very quickly in the second episode; she's put her daughters through A LOT as children and Veronica, in particular, acts out as an adult. They are all in therapy with Debra. Today's episode will be episode 3 in the series.

Connie Britton did an amazing job. I can't believe she wasn't nominated for an Emmy Award. Julie Garner & Juno Temple also did a great job playing spoiled daughters.

Ugh. I watched this show really wanting to sympathize with Debra because I dated a sociopath too and I know how manipulative they can be. But John literally displayed very obvious red flags right from the start and Debra still stayed with him and picked him over her family. She is just so dumb that I can’t even sympathize with her! My ex didn’t show any red flags in the beginning and didn’t have a criminal record of any kind. It took years of him slowly tearing me apart to realize the truth. But John had a lengthy criminal history of terrorizing women and she flat out told her nephew, “ I don’t care because I love him.” Now she wants to act like some kind of victim to “help” other women ?? Her advice is to hire all this professional help before leaving a sociopath. That is such useless advice for someone like me (and most women) who don’t have the money/resources for that sort of thing. So what are us working class women supposed to do?? It just shows how disconnected she is from reality. I only have sympathy for the first wife, Tonia, and Debra’s kids and nephew. Not Debra or her mother who betrayed her late daughter by siding with her murdering abusive husband and wants to brag about how “forgiving” she is. Ugh. Don’t even get me started on her.

My thoughts exactly after watching this on Netflix. Specially about Debra’s mother. She was the worst. With a mother like that, who needs enemies 🤦🏽‍♀️

Wow, yes, bragging about how 'forgiving' someone is when a person tried to kill someone in your own family is disgusting. Agreed. I remember the mother. Sweet lady in the beginning, but MUCH too forgiving of John.
@sweetielady7710
@sweetielady7710 10 ай бұрын
@@brynne77 agreed. I think Debra’s mom was good at pretending to be a sweet old lady but I think she actually was a bit evil, to be honest. Providing shelter for your daughter’s abusive ex-husband while forcing your daughter to have to live elsewhere, and then siding with the abusive ex-husband when he kills your daughter to the point of trashing your own daughter’s name at the killer’s trial (which means the vulgar things she said about Cindi will forever be on public court records)…. all just to help the abusive ex-husband face as little consequence as possible… all indications that Debra’s mom is either narcissistic or sociopathic, though she fools people with her soft voice and frequent mentions of Christianity. And Debra has the nerve to complain that her mom got too much criticism!! Wtf! Debra claims to be an advocate for domestic abuse survivors but then can’t see why people are against the mom?! I can’t with that family. Lol. I’ll get off my soapbox now 😅

Fun fact the actor who plays John and the actress who plays Veronica actually played in another movie together. In the movie The Other Boylen Girl he played King Henry the 8th she played Jane Parker.

After watching the first episode and seeing clips for the second, I REALLY don't like Debra; I don't feel sorry for her, I feel sorry for her daughetr who almost died. Debra just seems sexually frustrated and desperate for a man.

I find it completely ridiculous that Debra tries to use the fact that her kids didn’t like anyone she ever dated before to justify ignoring red flags that she saw and dismissing there concerns. Especially given the fact that she married 4 terrible man and dated guys who were terrible is it any wonder they had little to no faith in there mom ability to pick a good guy.
