This is actually a well crafted story. Im kinda surprised. I'm loving how he paid so much meticulous detail to her streams that while the narrative made it seem like he was turning into a fanatic or that he was gonna change for the worse, the story flips that narrative on its head and presents the case that his vigilance in her streams saved his life because he noticed immediately something was wrong when he did 1) Was the no boys allowed rule allusion to the fact that he as a male was able to spot this? 2) Was lizzy a real person at first the something else took her place? if so why did she vanish without a trace? 3) Was she a siren and lured her victims through modern means? so much genuine curiosity man
@arthas6407 жыл бұрын
I think you might be right with the siren angle, maybe she lured them in through supernatural means. That would explain why people got so fanatical in such a short time and why they were apparently willing to travel from as far as Norway and Iraq to Las Vegas over a random streamer who wasnt that great of a player or that great of a streamer (she drew in alot of fans but needed people to coach her on how to play and how to draw in more followers). The only part I dont understand was why she stopped appearing as a human towards the end but only for the narrator, while everyone else still think she looked normal. I've heard some stories that sirens appeared beautiful towards men but hideous towards women, and similar stories that they only appeared attractive as long as you heard them sing, but it doesnt really explain why her glamour dropped suddenly.

What this reminds me of is an Irish myth of Fairies that would snatch your body and shapeshift to take your place, sending you to the "Fairy world" where you would be tortured. It would explain why only someone who watched her as closely as the narrator noticed a difference. It would also explain how thousands of people disappeared without a trace. How else would you find traces of people who got taken to another dimension?

Two ways to go with this story 1. Lizzy never quit her job at the cafe, she moved on from Twitch and the rest of this story was in the narrator’s mind. Lizzy was so important to them that they couldn’t cope without her, making the friends they had in real life into mods in their fantasy. Lizzycon was a psychiatric facility, which they were admitted into after the narrator’s mental state deteriorated so harshly. The days before Lizzycon where Lizzy was different were the narrator attempting to rationalize why things were changing. Those days were when they were admitted into the psych ward, and the time after when they can’t find a trace of Lizzy is when they are out of the ward, still confused and disoriented but no longer hallucinating. 2. Lizzy was a siren, or some other type of entrapment fae-myth kind. She was apart of a three sister clan. No parents. Only females were apart of her life, and the narrator who is assumed to be female in this state, could see through her ruse simply because Lizzy’s magic preyed upon those attracted to women.

Toe to Tip That's a Bart - To the first one, its too hard to imagine people going insane after someone quitting a stream they've never even met.
@fenrisvermundr25166 жыл бұрын
The second one makes sense to a point, sirens do indeed affect those who are attracted to women, including women, (Basically Straight women, and gay men would be unaffected) however near the end the main character went crazy because of her disappearance indicating an obsessive attraction, meaning they wouldn't be able they see through the visage, unless their brain managed to figure it out, but that still wouldn't explain how they were obsessed even after seeing through the visage, as a siren can no longer affect those who have seen through their own visage.

@kaiser30175 жыл бұрын
logen schott yeah but she also had female viewers. & the mythology with sirens is that males see sirens as beautiful women, but women see sirens for their true form, hideous creatures. & i guarantee that somewhere in the thousands of people that went to lizzycon, there was at least a few women. so you’d think they’d give everyone a heads up or something after “it” started coming on screen. also the narrator was a male. so why all of the sudden did he start seeing something wrong & every other male didn’t ? i personally think she sold her soul to the devil. fame, money & no worries in exchange for her soul. but she also had a task to sacrifice the viewers that would come to lizzycon. i like the siren theory a lot. but some of it doesn’t make sense. that’s why i’m going with the selling her soul theory.

Then I thought Lizzie would do something insane (literally) for more views so she didn't have to stop doing what she loved, then I thought that Lizzie hadn't been replaced, but that the narrator thought she had because she was becoming less of herself, and morphing who she was to become more popular, and that he'd probably murder her at the event she set up that they could meet at, and he'd think it was a fake when it wasn't. Being fair, doing something you normally enjoy because it's your job can lead to burn-out. Additionally, the mass of people in the chat minimizes the social cohesion of being involved in the community. So the explosive growth of the chat means his best friends are "lost in the crowd". And Lizzy being overworked at having to keep up appearances means she is, technically, not the Lizzy he knew. ---- Also, the story itself isn't intrinsically scary until the end. The main draw to "scare" is the sudden disappearance of everyone else at the climax. The mystery of what happened, and the narrator's lack of knowledge into the events that transpired, is where one is supposed to be frightened or scared. Everything until that point is build-up.

A good creepypasta takes something normal or harmless and then recontexthalizes it to makes that thing frightening. (In a longer story like this one, that recontextulization should come near the end.) In this story, the "creepy" elements feels tacked on rather than integrated into other, "harmless" parts of the narrative. That said, the ending with reading of mod names was rather moving and well-done. Overall I enjoyed the experience, but the story is very unbalanced.
@ericharrison75184 жыл бұрын
The fact that you think this dude getting obsessed with a chick he never met, literally putting watching her streams before his basic needs, and then going on to become even more obsessed when she "changes" is even remotely somehow normal or harmless shows how lost most people are to this story. This story is directly attacking the culture that has formed around people on live streams and rightly so. You don't have to search very hard for examples of people who will donate every last penny they have to a complete stranger that doesn't even know their name for even the slightest hope of recognition from them. This story is terrifying in so many ways beyond just the creep factor towards the end.
@CannonFodderKing14 жыл бұрын
@@ericharrison7518 I don't disagree. I think the ideas you're describing are very compelling in a horror context, and it felt like this story was building up to them in some way. The last minute plot twist just doesn't align with those themes. I wish it did; a story focused on what you describe would have been more fulfilling.

Since everyone is sharing some weird theories, let me share mine. *_Warning_*_ long post ahead!_ My theory is that Lizzy used hypnosis of some kind or subliminal messages (even though it's barely possible to do so during a livestream). It made you obsess over her and want to watch her more. She seemed different from other streamers as none but her used this mind control. It became like a drug. When you recalled your memories about her, those subconscious messages were recalled as well. The "no boys" was simply to attract more audience who were completely unaware of what was happening, hypnosis works better when you are unaware of it. The streams might have seemed random but they were perfectly timed to give doses of the hypnosis so that no one wakes up from the spell. Her financial problems might be real or they might be a way through which she was trying to form a stronger connection with the audience, so that they think of her more, the more they think of her, the stronger the spell gets. They would also donate and tell more people about her which was a bonus. What probably happened when you realised that the Lizzy you saw was not her was that the spell broke as the audience reached to thousands and due to this you couldn't feel the same connection you earlier used to due to chatting with those other hypnotized people. Her stream timings changed too. When you woke up from the spell, you saw the real her. As said earlier, the spell became a drug for your mind and the sweat and sickness you experienced then were just like those of a drug deprived drug addict. When you remembered the earlier her, it was accompanied with those subconscious messages so yeah, she was different now as you no longer recieved those. On the meeting day, it might have been just like a siren theory, they either got killed or Lizzy efficiently hypnotized them live to make them cut their connections with the rest of the world and join some sort of cult. Hence, you never heard of your dear friends again.

I feel like this story is secretly about the toxic aspects of fandom. Like the writer starts off loving her, when her channel is small, when his voice is visible in chat, when he's getting responses, etc. But as the channel grows, and more people join, he starts to grow resentful of the loss of attention, and of Lizzy for focusing on things that he doesn't care about. He comes to view her as being something else, an impostor, because of course the *real* Lizzy would be the one who paid attention to him, and focused on the things he cared about, and never challenged him to grow or change with her, and with the rest of the community. It's deeply unhealthy thinking, especially since he knows that she's doing this in an effort to support herself with her content creation. He seems completely unconcerned with her wellbeing, and only really cares about his own feelings.

Moral of the story: Never become a streamer and sell your soul to twitch or what ever platafor that lets you stream, because you will slowly transform in a empty shell with out a reason to live to the point you will disappear...forever...out of nowhere... :v ((Sorry if I didn't get the story or ths spookyness))

This is actually really really sad. It reminds me of the times when I played War Dragons very regularly and started to make friends with the people in my team. Everyone was so nice and I actually got promoted to officer which was fun. Then things started to go south go the team. People stopped playing and the ones who still did (besides the regulars) stopped talking and interacting as much. Until one day when I stopped playing. I had just, lost my motivation. I felt extremely bad for leaving in a time of need but, I couldn’t bring myself to play anymore. I just, got bored. I’ve really wanted to start playing again but I’m afraid so much has changed that it just wouldn’t be the same. If anyone from Active Dragons is somehow reading this, Hey... It’s Mizutheseaweed. How’s it going?

The ending seriously made me cry. It felt very real. Also reminded me of how it often goes... there are some online communities and specific people I really miss, too. Especially with Twitch, there was a time when hanging out in smaller streams really felt special. But other websites, too. And eventually something always changes - be it the stream / streamer, other users you are close to moving on, or just your own schedule changing in a way so you just lose sight of everyone. There are some people I remember very well from those days, even though we never met in real life they sure felt like friends. It's a very specific kind of sad nostalgia to think about them,

she existed and so did all the viewers, that THING took her place and lured everyone to the planned lizzy con where they all vanished somehow. he had gifts from other viewers and spoke to their family members who know they all disappeared as well. the stream might have been gone along with the vids but the things in real life still existed

This struck me harder than I liked. I was not ready for that. Really good metaphor with supernatural undertones. Those who sell-out are basically sirens, beautiful monsters, maybe once enchanting but eventually predators of your soul. Deep.

I love how well thought-out this story is. Its ending is open-ended, leaving the viewers to come up with their own theories and make their own minds about what happened. There are some common ones--like the Siren theory--and then there are less common ones--like her selling her soul to the devil. I also love the way it makes the audience think that he's going insane and is getting obsessed with her, but in the end, it's his insanity and obsession that saves his life. Excellent job, WhoSoup!

I knew a girl named Lizzy in MPLS. Her boyfriend went to Iraq in 2002. She volunteered at the local Sci-fi con and had only sisters and her dad. She worked at a pub on Lake Street. About 2014 was the last time I saw her at the convention. Was around then her ex-boyfriend was hired to shoot BLM protesters outside the police station. He recorded the trip into operation on his cell phone with his mask off. Now I hear she has ghosted along with him, the phone, and video? Damned quantum computers must have scrubbed his whole life and all secondary actors from this universe. Thanks Steven Hawkings!

This is a prime example of the most frustrating trend in creepypasta writing: a disregard of both climax and resolution. The audience is presented with questions that are never answered. What gave the "thing" away as not being Lizzie? What WAS the "thing?" Why did someone so bubbly and cheerful not allow boys on her stream? Did the narrator's seemingly unhealthy obsession have to do with being a boy? How did Lizzie's stream grow do fast? How could tens of thousands of people, some who went to Lizziecon, some who didn't, all have no memory of the channel? In the attempt to make things chilling and mysterious, it ends up just feeling empty, incomplete, and unsatisfying.
