That's just it. It was never answered what happened or if it was demons or aliens responsible for what happened to the children and husband. I wonder if they plan to make a sequel to this film.

@@Disneyfan82I didn’t get an alien vibe at all😭especially because while the hide and seek thing was going on, there was a scary shadow coming from one of the kids, even though they were in their own bodies. I think it was made to be demonic, seeing as that’s a huge trope that comes from old ruins.

What was the point of incorporating social commentary on motherhood, parenting and mental health, if that was done for its own sake and had absolutely no effect on the children's actions and especially on the final outcome? We only see scary children attempting serious harm to their parents and another couple for an hour after "catching" something from the old ruins. There was no explanation, and we don't even know who survived at the end. In my opinion just waste of time - a movie like Children of the Corn at least gave some backstory. Your idea of "duplication of humans" possibly by some aliens (like Body Snatchers I suppose) was interesting and the film could have provided some story like that, but it did not.

Things I found insulting about the film: Ben grabs pills out of a child’s hands, shows the dad, for the dad to identify them as mood stabilizers and say “so what” Ben says pills were missing, child later “dies” with no explanation, and NOBODY is concerned about the child overdosing . How did they think Ben killed the kid? The couples back and forth spat with one couple being criticized for not having kids, Margret made a good point, they don’t need to have kids of their own to baby sit. Why does anyone care about anyone else reproducing? How insecure do you have to be about having kids do you have to be to feel the need to pressure your friends into having them! Margret not telling the parents the kids snuck out, even if they are fine, they need to get in trouble for it so they don’t pull stunts like that again. WHY. DID. NOONE CALL A PARAMEDIC!!! Child dying, lets call to report a death, but no one grab the phone for emergency services, lets not drive the kid to a hospital! Found the mom bleeding out, lets frantically tap her face and shoulders, don’t bother grabbing a phone. Oh and by the way, my partner dragged me to the woods after suffering a mental break and is being blamed for a child murder, lets leave him in front of a hole deep enough to cause death because why would he jump? One thing I would say was good about the film was the B-Movie horror track, if only it was to a fun movie with killer practical effects! Kids acting was pretty on point, I could see both the kids being successful actors if they so choose.

" Pretty sure at the time when Lucy was pouring the drink, Ben turned & saw that Spencer had the empty prescription in his hand, implying that he put it into the drink, but when Ben knocked down the drink & took the pills from Spencer's hands, the pills were magically back inside & untouched which made him look crazy and Ben said in that scene, "Wait these were empty" meaning they aren't empty anymore & untouched. Spencer said he thought they were candy, but I don't think he ate the pills. Eating pills wouldn't cause a choking reaction. He looked like he was choking on something during his death. What I think happened when Spencer was killed was the fact that he was chewing gum. (around the beginning of the movie, there was a scene of him with gum in his mouth, and he is always looking for snacks & other sweets.) Basically, when Ben was wrestling with Spencer for the shovel, the shovel hit Spencer's stomach or gut and that caused the gum to clog his throat. He first felt the pain of getting hit by Ben in the gut/stomach, but he began choking on the gum. (you can see when Spencer first entered that scene, he put gum in his mouth, was hopping & walking around, and as he was walking to grab the shovel, he dropped an empty package of gum indicating that he was eating/chewing on gum.) After the incident happened and Spencer was choking, Ben even ended up saying, "Just cough, try and cough it out" meaning to cough the gum out. Why would he tell Spencer to cough already ingested & active pills out?

@tigimer_0393 good point, good point. I was mostly focusing the the parents nonchalant attitude over their child handling prescription drugs, but there is a lot to the choking scene I was apparently missing!

Agreed, my first issue was the fact they left their son looking in front of a deep hole in a abandoned building by himself while they check on their daughter… most parents would make sure their kids are far away from danger like that

I was wandering why the monsters in this movie took on the form of insects but I think I get it now. The monsters are basically shapeshifters who can only take on the form of living creatures around them. The shapeshifters are stuck at the bottom of the hole/cave... and the only living creatures down there for them to replicate were probably insects. This explains why, when they took the form of the children, they were squishing the bugs with rocks out of hatred of spending goodness knows how long as bugs. Also, I think the shapeshifters might actually be an alien species as I got sort of Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes. Plus, the little boy Spencer was wearing a jacket with a UFO on the back of it (subtle hint, maybe?) Anyway, that's just my take on it.

This is going to be a weird comment, but I had TBI when I was in the military. It's been years, and I'm fine since, but when I first came home I was convinced that my family did not have my best interests in mind. I don't want to say I thought they were changelings, but I thought they were all lying to me. I thought they just wanted something from me, and to think something that isn't true is terrifying. And my family literally are the best people on the planet. I love my family so much but for a couple of years when I came home from afghanistan, I thought my family was against me. I thought they talked about me behind my back, I thought they weren't who they said they were, and I kept it all to myself and when I would tell some close friends about how I felt, they would all treat me like I was crazy. So this movie really struck me to the core. And just so I leave this comment off on a positive note, it's been years. I'm 44, I'm a homeowner I'm a single father, I love life I love being with my son there's nothing scary left. But this movie kind of brought back some pretty ugly memories. 😂😂😂

I had to pause the video because this is a problem I have with some movies Not this movie in particular, but any trope like this I hate it when the main character expresses concern over something they’ve seen, and all of a sudden the supporting cast or their partner most likely starts acting like the potentially crazy Like if you’ve been married to this person, or if you’ve known this person for such a long time and you’ve never seen this behavior before, even though it may sound far-fetched, and unbelievable, why would you not believe your partner that you’ve known .
