In my experience the self righteous are often quick to label brethren as tares because they dislike the mercy and grace we may bestow on the incarcerated who have surrendered their lives to Christ. I love Derek Prince, and he gets almost everything right but he missed it on this one! Matthew 13:38 makes it clear that the field is the world. "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one." There's a lot of validity in what he is saying, but the validity doesn't come from this scripture in this case. Another reference for anyone who's curious is Rev 2:14-16.

Then someone in church told me something similar to what you shared, they said that the devil is no match for God and God can just easily squish the devil with His finger.

How do I know I'm not a tare if it's based on self-deception? A self-deceived person cannot know which they are as they are deceived. I'm sincerely asking. I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross and became a curse from my sin. That justification come by grace through faith alone. However, I'm coming out of a very sinful and disobedient season. I have been confessing and repenting. But my faith seems so small right now.

You can only know by truly examining your hearts motives. Are you truly repentant and remorseful of your past actions, do you really want to change? And why,is it to please God and respond to His amazing love? If yes,then you are true and ought to ask for the power of God to help you,not sin. Remember, Jesus Christ forgave true repentant sinners and asked them to commit to a holy life ( like the woman caught in adultery),the tax collector etc. but for the Pharisees whose true motives were not to know Christ but to appear good to others; Jesus Christ told them clearly that they were hypocrites. I think the goal is to keep checking where our heart is

I appreciate Derek so much! I have to unfortunately strongly disagree with this one part: we have to put Evil out of our churches which is the ecclesia of the living God. That is specifically stated in the letters to Corinthians. What we cannot do, and i argue this is what the parable refers to: get rid of tares in the world. The soil and ground refers to everybody in this world. The church itself has to stay pure, and holy, and undefiled. When we know, someone doesn't have the holy spirit and doesn't bear fruit, or even bears bad fruit, that is a clear indicator for a dead faith, and we should confront this if this person belongs to a church. I don’t think there is freedom for the tares. This is the crux of the argument. Where Jesus is is the Spirit of Liberty. So where He is not there is no liberty.
