When I look at this episode. It just makes me sad that the kids' hatred for one another is because of their parents' hatred for the other kid parent. Like I get Alicent anger when it comes to her child. Any parent would. But I also get Rhaenyra protecting her child from someone who's trying to harm them.

Yeah, it's definitely generational. Alicent and Rhaenyra's dislike for one another stemmed from their parents, too. Look at how Corlys Velaryon was holding on to resentment, about his wife not being crowned. People do that in real life, hold on to anger and resentment, and pass it on to the next generation. Very sad, indeed.

@syraxes what I’m saying is there’s no evidence Alicent turned her kids against Rhaenyra’s. Aegon and Helaena don’t seem to care either way about Rhaenyra’s kids anymore than Luke and Jace seem to care about Alicent’s kids. Aemond never got along with any of the children (including Aegon), but even earlier in this episode Aemond approaches Jace with what appears to be a sympathetic demeanour but walks way without saying anything. The beef between the kids doesn’t start until this event.

Interestingly enough, in the books, Aemond only goes to claim Vhagar because Viserys basically calls him a pussy who might be too scared to claim a small dragon. He claimed the largest dragon alive at age 10 just to spite his father 😂 Also because it’s not explored in the show, Daemon and Rhaenyra’s wedding is very much frowned upon in the realm by many because it was done without Viserys’ permission, and because it was so soon after Laena and Laenor’s deaths. It was considered disrespectful.

To be fair to Alicent, eye for an eye was a pretty common punishment in those times 😅. We saw it in episode 1 when Daemon was cutting off hands of thieves, heads of killers, etc. It is brutal but that’s how it worked and even children weren’t excluded. Alicent went too far by demanding an eye of a royal child but rest assured, if it was some peasant boy, they world have given her that eye. And I am entirely sure that if it was Luke who lost an eye Rhaenyra would demand the same punishment, in fact, she did imply that Aemond should get tortured to find out where he heared the bastard “rumour” from.

"if it was a peasant boy, they would have given her that eye." the gag is, lucerys is actually a bastard, not really royalty. so quiet as its kept, he should've lost more than an eye for maiming the prince. but because viserys and rhaenyra obviously are trying to protect anyone from knowing to protect luke, jace and joffrey, they have to keep up the lie, yet alicent still understandably wants some justice. and absolutely, if it were the other way around, and aemond cut out luke's eye, rhaenyra never would've let that slide, and the way viserys favors her, aemond would've lost one right alongside, or daemon would've sent someone to do it somehow.

For the same reason, technically it shouldn't matter that Jace isn't Laenor's son in regard to his inheritance of the iron throne. The only thing were them being bastards grants them rights they shouldn't have is over the inheritance of Driftmark (still disputable, considering that Laenor himself considered them his children)

For example, Jon Snow, Ramsay and Gendry were not entitled to anything even though they had noble blood from their fathers. Ramsay only became heir after he was legitimised by the king.

While it was pretty insensitive of Aemond to claim Vhagar right after Laena’s death, there is no “Rhaena was supposed to bond with her”. Dragons do not pass directly from parent to child, they go to whoever with dragon blood dares to claim them and who they are drawn to the most. In fact, Caraxes was once ridden by Rhaenys’ dad, Prince Aemon, and her dragon Meleys was once ridden by Princess Alyssa, Viserys and Daemon’s mother, and Vhagar herself was once ridden by their father Baelon The Brave. It was a possibility that Rhaena could have claimed Vhagar since she was an available rider, but Aemond got there first and was accepted. I also doubt that Vhagar would even accept Rhaena in the first place. As we saw, Vhagar was about to roast Aemond for a midnight snack before he showed her that he wasn’t scared of her and had the guts to climb on the saddle without even fastening himself to it and staying on her back. Not to shoot down Rhaena as a character, but she hasn’t really shown us that she has the courage and ability to go and do that. It’s sucky and disrespectful of Aemond to do that AT LAENA’S FUNERAL, but there is no “stealing” a living dragon, especially Vhagar, the largest and oldest dragon currently alive who burned and killed thousands in naval battles, the Field of Fire and in Dorne during The Conquest. Aemond did some not so cool things, but he claimed Vhagar fair and square and there’s no changing that bond unless the rider dies.

@@NebulasOnyx What did I make up? Vhagar accepted Aemond after he stood up to her, a huge living killing machine, and took the initiative to climb on her back and survive his first ride. She could have easily roasted him or torn him to shreds if she didn’t want him to be her rider. We haven’t seen much of Rhaena, but I don’t think she would have done that. Maybe eventually when she wasn’t mourning the recent loss of her mother, but Aemond got there first. Yeah it was insensitive for him to claim the dragon of the person he’s attending the funeral of, but Aemond couldn’t have insulted Rhaena specifically because she doesn’t have “first dibs” on Vhagar or whatever for being Laena’s kid. She didn’t make it public that she was going to claim Vhagar or even attempt to do it yet. Aemond had no way of knowing that she wanted to claim her and neither did anyone else besides maybe Rhaena’s immediate family. Rhaena just decided she was going to and got upset about someone stealing “her” dragon. Yeah he shouldn’t have done it at the funeral, but that was really the moment someone was going to claim Vhagar. Aemond took the chance and Rhaena didn’t

Dragons are rarely passed down automatically from parent to child. It's up to the dragon to decide, after his/her rider dies, what rider the dragon will allow to claim him/her. Vhagar was one of the three great dragons of Aegon's Conquest, ridden by the mighty warrior-queen Visenya (Aegon's sister-wife and general). But between Baelon's untimely death and young Aemond's claiming the ancient war-dragon, Laena Velaryon, Baelon's great-niece, claimed and rode Vhagar. In the book, Daemon's daughters are twins; but in the TV show, Baela Targaryen is a year or two older than her sister Rhaena. Baela has a dragon who is still too young to ride; Rhaena's egg has not hatched. Many of Daemon’s scenes are cut which provide more context. There are interviews with creatives behind the scenes that appear to be upset by Daemon’s popularity. It is my opinion, many scenes are cut to make Daemon unlikeable. You can see the cut scenes if you look it up. By the way, Alicent could have been more free spirited, she chose not to. If she would have stood up to Otto and not seduced Viserys, he would have been disappointed but I saw no signs from him that she would be harmed. She also was upset that Rhaenyra lied about being a maiden; she lied by omission when she was sneaking around seducing her father. I understand Viserys asked her not to say anything but that was after everything was already underway. Those women should stop being petty and go get a room, they know they want to.😊

Sweetie,Daemon doesn’t care bout being close to the throne 💕 love. He never did. @17:50 Like he said in episode one when Viserys broke his heart. All he wanted was his brother’s love. His brother’s commitment to family and glory of their race. I’ll explain lore. Targaryen’s are all about blood. They have to be. It’s also about pride for the race of people, who have all died out. Viserys was never fully Targaryen in the way most were. He became manipulated and absorbed himself into the way of life of the common people. Of the Seven Kingdoms. Not the majesty and exceptionalism of this magical special race. Daemon tried to get him to see that. Rhaenyra always did, as dragon riders before her. Same with Laena. She was also strong in her belief of Old Valyria before everyone else. He loved his brother but the pain was never truly healed and what Viserys did to him. He tried to pain him in revenge, but couldn’t go through with it. He left for 10 years because of that and because he loved Rhaenyra. They are like one person as writers and Matt describe. There is nobody more devoted to her. And to his family. He may have his moments of too much fire in his veins and moments of darkness. He just truly is Valyrian. And in some way the last of them. At first I was more 50/50 about the feud this episode, but I came to be more on Alicent and Aemond’s side for various reasons. 1) You cannot steal a dragon. They’re not inherited from parent to child. Vhagar was claimed by Aemond because she was always supposed to be his. Their bond was already so strong mere minutes after the claim that Vhagar roared when Aemond’s eye was slashed. 2) Aemond got jumped by his four cousins. I understand why the kids did what they did (they’re children after all) but him picking up a rock to defend himself is fair - he’s a kid as well. 4) If my child had just maimed another child for life, I would be apologetic, scolding my children and making them apologise. Instead, Rhaenyra chose to focus on them being called bastards and suggests that Aemond (the maimed child!) should be tortured to find out where he heard those allegations. Allegations that literally everyone has been whispering about. 5) Putting myself in Alicent’s shoes, I would be furious if my child had just been maimed and the mother of the person who did it and my husband were dismissive of what had just happened. Alicent was being impulsive going for Lucerys like that, but I think she deserves a pass considering what had just taken place before her.

Looking at things from young Aegon’s perspective, it must really fuck with him mentally to be the first born son of a Targaryen king and be cast aside in favour of his sister. In defense of Aemond, yeah he grabbed a rock, but they literally just jumped him 4 on one? So he was grabbing something to protect himself with. He even lowered the rock and didn't use it at first, but instead insulted them (called them bastards) but they literally just beat him up, so is he supposed to be nice? He lowers the rock, then Jace actually _pulled a knife_ on Aemond and started swinging it at his stomach, so Aemond hits him with a rock to knock him back. Luke then cuts out Aemond's eye. In his defense, I don't think he meant to do that, just protect Jace, but the eye _is_ gone, and Alicent has the right to be angry, and Aemond had the right to defend himself against 4 kids attacking him and a knife swinging at him. Aemond saying cruel things to Rhaenyra kids, but they helped bully him, as you know, so why should he care to be nice to them? Alicent went overboard with trying to go for the child's eye, but that was in response to Viserys lack of action. He just told everyone to get over it, and put far more value on Rhaenyra's kids than Aemond's eye. He made it very clear that he'll punish anyone who speaks on _Rhaenyra_ kids, but also made it clear he will _not_ punish anyone who harms _Alicent's_ kids.

Obviously you watched a different episode because the one I saw the story was way different. First of all some history lesson, YOU CANT steal dragons, dragons are not inherited, they are not a family possesion to pass on to the next gen, you can to claim a dragon and ONLY IF that dragon accepts you, otherwise the dragon might decided to kill you if your not worth it. So Aemond had evert right to claim Vhagar, first come, first served. As for the fight scene, obviously as I said you saw a different episode than the rest of us. It was the girls first that attack him, first Rhaena charged against him and he just deflected her and right away Baela came and thrown the first punch and so he punched her back, then the 2 boys also attack him first and so he responded. Aemond was only defended himself after every move that the other side first initiated. Yeah he was a little jerk at first speaking like that to the girls but he did not start the physical fight and certaintly he did not deserved to lose an eye just because he was rude, you have to remember that Aemond is also a child of 10 years old of age and so I was disgusted seeing many reactors to be so satisfied that a young child lost an eye.
