What application renovation shows me is that reflection is a big part of the whole process. Your story needs time to be reflected on in order to explain your story and motivation. You have to be able to convey it to other people. Also, if you aren’t able to reflect on your own story and narrative, you can’t provide answers during the interview that can separate you from other candidates. You will at least be just like 50-100 other candidates coming in without something to make you different (which lies in your story). You don’t need to be able to cure cancer or build a world foundation to stand out. You could, but have the means to elaborate your motives, what this means for you and how you want to apply this moving forward. This process has opened my eyes to see my own story from another angle. Where I reflect on my own why. Most likely, you will find that there is a commonality or theme behind all the particular activities that you decided to take up. They speak to you vision and mission, and this is the story you need to provide.

Remember when you heard the joke drink everytime someone says a word. I apply that to my essays. I try not to make the reader drunk off a word.(eye rolling) I find a synonym and if it doesn't work then I restructure the point I'm trying to get across.

I wouldn’t say the bar is in space, especially binge watching this YT channel. It seems like most people have a good shot of getting into med school if they can tell the story of themselves genuinely and how those experiences impacted others Also I think lots of people underestimate the personal statement Thank god i have another year to apply because if I applied this year, I would make soooooo many mistakes like a lot of the students shown on the channel make
@stoneleachman96473 жыл бұрын
It appears that this student has good experiences but needs more clinical experience and needs to really think about what being a doctor is about for her. Obviously her stats are great and her EC’s aren’t bad either (as long as she edits them to more story telling). The good news is that these are all easy fixes. She can definitely get into medical school next cycle if she makes the appropriate changes

Hi Dr. Grey. I am not sure if you read the comments section but I would love to understand your statement about the story of Henry. Many minority applicants (Black, Latinx, Indiginous LGBTQIA, or low socioeconomic status applicants have seen the pitfalls in healthcare of treating those particular demographics, and for some seeing those downfalls might be a motivating factor for them to become a patient advocate and representative face in healthcare. Could you talk about or show a video on how you would talk about those experiences without coming off as negative?
@nd37233 жыл бұрын
I agree! alot of my "why" stems from my grandmother not receiving appropriate care in a rural area. My app has the theme of alleviating health disparities and I want to talk about what happened to my grandmother because I really think it helps tell my story.
@marinal27053 жыл бұрын
Right. Also people with chronic health conditions often get bounced from doctor to doctor within the system. I find many of these videos seem to present a takeaway: don't talk about medicine in a negative light. Don't we want future physicians to be acutely aware of the pitfalls of the system so that we change it? They clearly still want to be a physician as they apply...

Dr. Ryan, I'm inspired by your work. I have a question. I'm planning on pre-writing everything I will be putting on my aamcas. I hope there was some kind of application simulator where you get to familiarize yourself with the application, but that's not the case. I plan on pre writing everything on a document and I'm wondering if the services you offer can take a final look at the prewrite before I put it on the application and submit it? That way I don't waste time and be more prepared for the application once it opens. Thanks so much for everything you do for us ❤️
@ishu4ever3083 жыл бұрын
if you’re applying this cycle or the next cycle you can always make an account (which you will prob already have from MCAT) and put things into the actual website but just don’t submit it so that way when you need to actually apply you’ll know what you need and don’t need

@@ishu4ever308Thanks so much for the feedback, I still have a long way ahead of me, like three years until I apply, but looking at how difficult it is to get in, I feel the urge to be over-prepared for it. I haven't done my MCAT, can I still access the aamcas app?
@habib5803 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t over prep too much about it since you really don’t have any experiences to write about yet. When you do you experiences, make a long about what’s you do each day and start to think about “stories”
@ishu4ever3083 жыл бұрын
@@bakralkarawi9977 If you have more than three years then I would not focus on the application aspect right now. Instead focus on building your GPA, making connections with supervisors and professors, studying well in intro courses so MCAT studying will go better, study for MCAT early, and start thinking of your stories. Having a template website will not help here as right now is the time to get involved with things you are passionate about. Don't think about checking the boxes but think about what you can do to get involved. That's what I would do.
