Another great interview. I'm 63 years old, so these strolls down memory lane with all of these great musicians are such a treat. You have such a gift in creating a relaxed and open conversation with these superstars. Thank you John. Cheers!

Mason sure put out some good albums in the 70's. I got a chance to see him back then, and he put on such a good show. His cover of All Along the Watchtower was incredible. Dave played a blistering solo on that that was really worth a listen.

Thank you for interviewing the great Dave Mason. Dave is my favorite musician and i've seen him in concert 102 times. Dave is one of the greatest musicians of all time, but just does not get the recognition he deserves.

I think the reason is because he seems to come off as prickly person. I agree that he’s an immense talent, but he reveals very little information and never says much in a cagey sort of manner. I’ve read elsewhere that he’s not easy to work with. Maybe he pissed off the wrong people on too many occasions.

Though not well documented, Dave Mason was also in Delaney & Bonnie's band. For anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with that band, at various times it included Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock (those four became Derek & the Dominos, which was the core band on 'All Things Must Pass'), horn players Jim Price & Bobby Keys (went on to the Rolling Stones), Leon Russell (solo star but also wrote hits 'A Song for You', 'Masquerade' and 'Delta Lady), Rita Coolidge (solo star), Duane Allman (Allman Brothers), George Harrison (responsible for introducing Clapton to the band, which led him to hiring D&B to open tour dates for Blind Faith), Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney (went to Little Feat), session drummer Jim Keltner (Dylan, three Beatles, Travelling Wilburys etc.) and many more. Mad Dogs & Englishmen was basically Delaney & Bonnie's (ex) band fronted by Joe Cocker. And Dave Mason's debut solo album 'Alone Together' also has players from D&B's band (D&B did a song named 'Alone Together', though no relation to Mason). Clapton's debut album with 'Let It Rain' and 'After Midnight' is essentially a D&B album with Eric singing. Better known is that Mason played the acoustic guitar intro to Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower'. Though the spotlight tends to focus on his days with Traffic and his 70s solo hits, Dave Mason is so much more. And the calibre of those who have included him in their projects is a reminder of what a serious talent he is.

The reason that "there were a lot of people in the studio", is because that album was a Phil Spector "Wall Of Sound" production. Individual arrangements for certain instruments alone took forever, as artists involved in those records have said. A Phil Spector-produced project employed up to 28 musicians.

Imagine (no pun intended ) if he had gone into the studio and had a minimum of people there and had really concentrated and spent some quality time laying down those tracks what an absolute gem it would have been !!!

Ugh! What made the Beatles great was NOT George Harrison. This album sold well because the Beatles had just broken up and to the Beatle hungry public, this album was shelf ready. I wish we’d all agree that while he supported his 2 more talented bandmates very well, neither he nor any of us should’ve ever confused him for an equal. This all comes down to wish-thinking.

George didn’t write as many great songs as John and Paul, but did have great songs he wrote.
