THIS pleases me SO MUCH! This is one of my absolute favorite movies ever!! Thank you for reviewing it! I couldn’t hit play fast enough!

It's like a Dracula movie with Daniel as the persuasive vamperic Dracula and Paul Dano as the devout Van Helsing trying to keep an invading sinful menace from his town. The people Daniel manipulates he makes his vampires, the kid is his glamour, the oil is the blood sustaining Daniel and the kid is his glamour? I'm probably steeling this from somewhere but those beats stood out to me.
@Eisenhower422 жыл бұрын
Great review, as always! BTW - there are definitely two brothers - Paul and Eli. Late in the movie, Plainview informs Eli that his brother Paul has set up his own small oil drilling enterprise and is pulling in x-number of barrels a day worth x-thousand dollars. So, they are definitely twin brothers. But it confused the hell out of me the first time I saw the movie. In this case, I wish they would have used a different actor for the brief part of Paul.
@BrazilianPride220412 жыл бұрын
Also when Eli attacks Abel he says that it was "your stupid son Paul who told Daniel about the oil Abel, I know it. A stupid son of a stupid father" or something along those lines.
@TRTMN-vs3ew2 жыл бұрын
@@BrazilianPride22041 Indeed he did. Having Paul only be mentioned in those little moments though, I can see why Ian and Gary were unable to recall these bits of evidence due to the length of time in between said moments.

There is a distinction between directors that make movies for entertainment, and directors that make films with vision, purpose, and cinema art, this film is an example of that, a director that not only care for good cinematography and score, but understand that performances is what carry a film, Anderson manages to assamble a great cast that truly deliver those characters. Is a well made film with a style you dont see often this days.

Oh,guys,finally!!!! In my opinion-this is one of the most disturbing and fucked up and brilliant movies ever made!!! And Daniel Day Lewis?...Fuck,this man is an absolute genius! GENIUS!!!!
@supoa94892 жыл бұрын
Great Review. This film is a perfect example that you don't nesscarily have to root, cheer or sympathize with the protagonist (it can act as change of pace too) to be invested and engaged in the story. The conflict between two self-selfing, manulipative, controlling individuals from different walks of life trying to outdo each other makes more that compelling. Definitely one of best villian protagonist stories.
@JD.78 Жыл бұрын
Daniel Day Lewis portrays the most heartless, ruthless and vile side of humanity in this movie with aplomb. Straight from the off i was invested in this character's story and the journey he would take to become the monster i was compelled to watch till the conclusion. A brilliant movie with great acting all round and one that gets better with each viewing. Stellar review guys, it was well informed, educational, thought provoking and most watchable indeed. Cheers.

I don't even really like Paul Thomas Anderson movies but this is one of my top films of all time. Also I like that they basically let Paul Dano loose in The Batman to basically go Daniel Plainview levels of ape shit.

Odd that they point out the difference between Paul Thomas Anderson and Paul W.S. Anderson, yet neglect to mention Paul Anderson the actor from Peaky Blinders that is on Gary's t-shirt.

I think Daniel Plainview was finally starting to come around as a human being when his brother enters his life and he starts to lighten up - and then when he finds out he was being scammed - that was the turning point - the final nail in his coffin - and distrusts all people after that

Greetings from Michigan! Very nice review. Just a few things that I noticed after watching this movie probably over 40 times. In the very beginning when Daniel is mining you can see that one of his arms is significantly bigger that the other. Assuming that he is right handed or left. And the other fun thing to look at is Daniels hats throughout the movie its almost serves as a maker of him transitioning to different points in his life. The last thing that I would mention if anyone was to re watch this is Daniels right hand man getting looked over as a partner, He's the one that seemed to care more about H.W during the oil well explosion. Which I'm not sure if the movie even gives him a name. Anyways love all your videos and got you on twitch as well. Keep up the good work! See you guys in the next one!

it's like Blood Simple all tension and bitterness and then you get a huge laugh at the end cuz they waited until the very end to make the joke. PT Barnum has the best endings of any director though by far.

Best performance by DDL in my opinion is in Sunday Bloody Sunday guys. Watch that movie is amazing, DDL is so intesnse scratching that car with a broken bottle, so powerfull when he glimpse the camera. I love that movie, I love John Schlesinger and Peter Finch, Glenda Jackson and Murray Head were all wonderfull.

Cue Wayne Campbell impression; There will be blood. Oh yes, there will be blood. Only seen this flick once, really enjoyed it. Too my shame though, I didn't see it in the cinema BECAUSE . . . I convinced my friends to see the film JUMPER instead. Listen, Doug Liman hadn't let me down until that point, and the film was only 90 minutes long and I didn't wanna be in town all day. Still, goddamn Beird. Goddamn
